Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in Indonesia plays an important role in shaping the character and identity of the younger generation. However, along with the rapid development of globalization, technological advances, and social diversity, the current PAI curriculum is considered unable to answer these challenges effectively. Therefore, an adaptive and inclusive PAI curriculum reformulation is needed to meet the needs of education that is relevant to the times. This study aims to explore and analyze how the reformulation of the PAI curriculum that is responsive to changes in the times and the diversity of students can improve the quality of religious education in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach and literature study method, this study explores the concepts and principles of curriculum reformulation that focus on the integration of the values of moderation, tolerance, and character in Islamic religious education. The results of the study indicate that the reformulation of the PAI curriculum needs to involve a more inclusive approach, pay attention to different learning styles, and utilize technology to make learning more interactive and interesting. In addition, the PAI curriculum must prioritize character education that not only teaches religious teachings, but also instils positive attitudes and behaviours in everyday life. This reformulation must also involve active participation from various parties, such as educators, parents, and the community, to produce a more comprehensive curriculum that is in accordance with students' needs. Thus, an adaptive and inclusive Islamic Religious Education curriculum is expected to be able to create a young generation that is not only academically intelligent, but also has good morals, has relevant life skills, and is able to face global challenges with a moderate, tolerant attitude, and respects diversity.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an innovative Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum model to improve religious understanding in schools. The research method used is a literature review by analyzing various literatures, scholarly articles, books, and documents related to the PAI curriculum and learning innovations. The study finds that an innovative PAI curriculum must combine a technology-based approach, contextual learning, and student-centered methods. This model also emphasizes the importance of integrating Islamic values with 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving. The research results indicate that the implementation of an innovative curriculum has the potential to enhance students' understanding of Islamic teachings and their application in daily life. Thus, this study provides a theoretical foundation for developing an PAI curriculum that is relevant to the needs of learners and the challenges of the times. This model is expected to serve as a reference for educators and policymakers to improve the quality of PAI learning in schools

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a strategic role in fostering religious tolerance in multicultural school environments. This study aims to analyze the role of the PAI curriculum in instilling tolerance values and exploring the methods and approaches used in teaching. A qualitative approach with a case study design was applied in a secondary school with religious diversity. The findings indicate that the PAI curriculum supports the development of tolerance attitudes through the integration of universal values, such as respect for differences, empathy, and cooperation, into the teaching materials. Dialogical approaches and interaction-based experiential learning proved effective in enhancing students' understanding of diversity. However, challenges such as insufficient teacher training in managing tolerance-based curricula and resistance from some students toward interfaith discussions remain. The PAI curriculum can effectively build religious tolerance in schools if supported by adequate teacher training, relevant teaching modules, and synergy among teachers, students, and parents. Recommendations include developing intensive training programs and enhancing the curriculum with a focus on tolerance values.
