Abstract

This research aims to showing how accommodating the differences of two traditions ideologically and socially can create tolerance and peace in a plural society. The plurality of Muncar such ethnicity, religion, culture and class-economy could protect the conflict. They more choose the public interest than personal interest. The social reality of Muncar is showing with ritual Petik Laut which combines between Islamic and Osing tradition. Cosmologically both of them are different, Islam believes in the singular God and the Osing believes in the plural God. The main problem of this research is how the ideological and social accommodation between the Islamic and Osing tradition can work. So my conceptual framework of research that syncretism is the accommodation of differences which can create society to be peaceful. And the ritual collective is the combining media of how the differences because the ritual has the collective goal which is reached by society as the actors. This research shows that the differences of religion and ideology in the multi-ethnical and cultural society have potentials for conflict. But the conflict can be protected by involving the social agents of society like santri and kejawen in order to avoid riot. The ideological problem is significant and sensitive and it is easy to create raise strong emotions among the fishermen. The wrong interpretation of ideology can be fatal. However the coastal society generally is known as less temperamental and open-minded person and permissive for the religious and ideological plurality. Their attitudes which want to show ‘dignity’ (jati diri) are the characteristic of the coastal society. This attitude manifests in the petik laut ritual by involving the symbols of religions, cultures and ethnicities in Kedungrejo. The Kedungrejo society majority is Islam but they believe in Ratu Reja Mina as the fish Queen although it is the Osing belief. The honor for the Sayid Yusuf as the historical figure of the Petik Laut history is done together by them. These beliefs complete the Islamic belief for Prophet Hidir. The coastal cosmology of Kedungrejo is the result of accommodating between Islam and Osing. So it became the local ideology which can avoid the conflict. Because left one of two ideologies can create the ideological conflict in society. They are still doing the process for the survival society life peacefully although they have the different interpretation about ritual petik laut. The conflict of economy as the consequence of the work system between jaragan and pandiga, and the environmental conflict between fabric and society can assimilate in this ritual because the social function of petik laut can accommodate all of the elements of society even religion to include in this ritual. So the person who has the certain conflict became the ritual as the mediation for building up the social cohesion (silaturohmi) among the fishermen community, religious institution and the organization of the pesantren’s alumni. From the social accommodation, the social cohesion came back to unity so that peace can return to Kedungrejo.

This research is field research with the descriptive, qualitative and analitic genre by applying etnographical approach and the sociology of knowledge theory, and applying the interview and observation as the method. This result of this research reveal three meaning of the duha ritual in the perspective of majelis duha Bantul: (1) objective meaning that is the meaning of the Duha Prayer which majelis duha Bantul understood from the hadis that suggesting the duha prayer. (2) expressive meaning which personally diverse, several person interpretate duha prayer as the effort to attain the physical and mental health, some men religiously interpretate that duha prayer is one of many ways to reach the wordliness success and the hereafter happiness, etc. (3) documenter meaning that show the duha prayer as the ritual based on the hadis advice but in very fact this ritual is disputed still by some scholars; by commiting the duha prayer it means they indentified them self as the community that appraise the duha prayer collectively is the sunah ritual. Abstract

This present paper aimed to establish the philosophical foundation of environmental ethics through the perspectives of Javanese cosmology. Ontologically, Javanese cosmology tends to see the relation between human and nature as the unity of existence (Javanese: manunggalingkawulagusti). This kind of perspective can be instrumental to help positivistic-anthropocentric cosmology to be included within the mentality of enlightenment. Etymologically, Javanese cosmology builds upon ‘a sense’ reflecting on the systematisation of human experience in undergoing this life, which enables human to get a better knowledge of God as the creator of the universe. In an axiological way, Javanese cosmology accentuates the principle of harmony with nature, denoting the human’s appreciation of the nature that signifies the negation of a gap between subject and object. These reflections about Javanese cosmology point to the possibility of implementing norms that are used as a standard of human conduct, and that guide how practical human needs can be made in line with ethical and anthropological dimensions. Javanese cosmology therefore is thought not only to be capable of changing how human views nature. Rather, it is also thought to contribute to the development of environmental ethics that are beneficial to human in responding to the problem of environmental damage either on local level or global level.

However, it should be realized that not everyone can apply counseling and therapy counseling practice through hypnocounseling. This is because it needs special skills in applying it.

Abstract

The study of interpretation methodology is very important, because the activities of the interpretation of the Koran will continue to develop along with the pace of the times. Abdul Mustaqim has mapped the interpretation methodology into three parts. First, the interpretation of the classical period. Second, the interpretation of the middle period. Third, interpretation of the contemporary period. With this mapping, it is expected that the position of the interpretation methodology of Jamal al-Banna can be known making it easier for researchers to recognize the interpretive concepts they offer. In every generation there are always products of interpretation of the Koran that have different features and characteristics. The socio-cultural condition in which the interpreter lives and the background of the disciplines they pursue is a reality that influences their interpretation of the Qur'an. The emergence of contemporary interpretations as the development of a scientific discipline is also much influenced by the development and change of the scientific epistemology itself. In this contemporary era, the name Jamal al-Banna appears which offers a new methodology for interpretation. This Egyptian-born thinker criticizes the scientific tradition of interpretation that has developed over the years (both classical and contemporary). So do not be surprised if the various ideas are always controversial. This article tries to review the methodological and philosophical interpretation of Jamal al - Banna. Starting with the effort to deconstruct the interpretation of the results of all classical commentators, Jamal proposed three stages in the interpretation of the Koran, namely the art approach, psychological approach, and rational approach. All three are hierarchical stages to arrive at an interpretation. Having arrived at the interpretation stage, Jamal al- Banna does not recommend certain methods or limit certain knowledge as methods of interpretation analysis. He refused if one particular method has a guarantee as the only way to find the truth, because the Koran does not have to be limited. Some contemporary thinkers in the study of the Koran, such as Amin al-Khuli, Mohammed Syahrur, Mohammed Arkoun, Nashr Hamid Abu Zayd, and Orientalist views on the Koran also did not escape criticism. To find out more about Jamal's thought, this article uses a descriptive qualitative method and a philosophical-rationalistic approach with hermeneutics as the ISSN: 1411-1632 (Print) 2527-5992 (Online) knife of analysis. Both of these methodologies are used to reveal the construct of Jamal's thought around the interpretation methodology that he built. This study contributes positively in order to broaden the insight of the study around the conceptual interpretation of the Koran. Because the spirit and problems faced by muslims today are growing and complex which demands the discovery of new methods in understanding the Koran more accommodatively and dynamically. Based on the method and approach above, it was found that the interpretation method conceived by Jamal wanted to place the Koran free of the various approaches that limit it. For Jamal, humans are very autonomous and free to interpret as long as it is in line with the humanist and universal principles contained in the Koran. Through the systematic-practical interpretation methodology offered above, it can facilitate the moslem community to comprehend the Koran comprehensively. Abstract

In Malay Archipelago, Malay is associated with Islam. Malay people who migrate to Malay Archipelago centuries ago have embraced Islam as their faith. Islam is spread across Malay Archipelago peacefully. Those who spread Islam in this region didn’t destroy the principles of local communities. Some local traditions were even used to spread Islam. Therefore, Islam in the faith and practice of Malay people still contains local elements, including magic—known by Malay people as ilmu. Ilmu is closely related with belief, ideas, and lifestyles of the practitioners. As a tradition, Ilmu strengthens local beliefs and practices. The arrival of Islam has changed the dialectic ilmu of Malay people. In the dialectic process between local tradition and Islamic elements, there is contestation. This paper describes the relation of a form of contestation between local elements and Islam in the Ilmu of Malay people. The dynamics of the contestation are ongoing. The competition is sometimes won by local elements, so its strengthened. But, sometimes local elements are defeated and fully replaced by Islamic elements. However, some Islamic and local elements are found to exist side-by-side.
