Abstract

This study aims to improve early childhood cooperation skills through the application of the traditional game Gobak Sodor at TK Islam Nurul Iman, Meruya Selatan, West Jakarta. The research employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method using the spiral model by Kemmis and McTaggart, conducted over two cycles. The subjects were 20 children in group B, aged 5–6 years. Data were collected through participatory observation using cooperation skill indicators, documentation, and field notes, and were analyzed descriptively using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results showed an increase in children's cooperation skills from 35% in the pre-cycle phase to 63% in the first cycle, and further to 91% in the second cycle. Improved cooperation indicators included the ability to share, take turns, help peers, follow rules, and communicate effectively within a group. These findings indicate that Gobak Sodor is an effective and culturally rooted learning medium for fostering social development in early childhood education. The study implies that early childhood educators should integrate traditional games into learning activities to promote cooperative behavior, empathy, and social communication. Teachers are also encouraged to actively guide and reflect on the play process to maximize social development outcomes.

Abstract

This research aims to improve fine motor skills of children aged 4–5 years through the use of bottle cap media at PAUD Az-Zahra Rengas, South Tangerang City. The background of the study is based on the importance of stimulating fine motor development in early childhood, who are in the golden age period where finger coordination, wrist movement, and manipulative skills are crucial to support learning readiness at the next level. The research method employed was Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and Taggart model, carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were 17 children, consisting of 8 boys and 9 girls. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and field notes, then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to examine the development of children’s fine motor skills. The findings revealed a significant improvement after the application of bottle cap media, where in the pre-cycle the average mastery level was only 45.9%, increasing to 70.8% in the first cycle, and reaching 99.9% in the second cycle, which exceeded the success indicator of 80%. This improvement was reflected in the children’s ability to classify, arrange, and manipulate bottle caps effectively, indicating optimal development of their fine motor skills. Thus, the use of bottle cap media proved to be effective in enhancing the fine motor abilities of early childhood learners. This study implies that teachers can utilize simple, inexpensive, yet creative media such as bottle caps to create engaging, meaningful, and enjoyable learning experiences that support children’s holistic growth and development.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low fine motor skills of children aged 4-5 years which can be seen from the difficulty of children in carrying out activities of picking, attaching, and arranging materials. This study aims to describe a variety of fine motor activities through the use of Loose Part media and analyze its impact on early childhood development. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach which was carried out at Ad-Dahiriyyah Joglo Islamic Kindergarten, West Jakarta. The research subjects were children aged 4-5 years. Data collection techniques are carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively. The results of the study showed that a variety of fine motor activities through the Loose Part media included pattern drawing, squeezing, pinching, and sticking. These activities are able to stimulate children's fine motor development, such as finger muscle strength, hand-eye coordination, concentration, patience, and neatness. In addition, this activity also has an impact on increasing creativity, confidence, and habituation of Islamic values through learning that begins with prayer and gratitude. It was concluded that the application of Loose Part media through a variety of activities had a positive impact on the fine motor development of children aged 4–5 years.

Abstract

Cognitive development is an important aspect of early childhood education because it is related to children’s ability to think, understand, and solve problems. Based on observations conducted at TK PGRI Sukadana, it was found that children’s cognitive development had not developed optimally, especially in recognizing colors and understanding the concept of color mixing. This problem was caused by the lack of learning activities that actively involved children and the use of less interesting learning methods. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether color mixing activities could improve early childhood cognitive development and to describe the process of improving cognitive development through color mixing activities at TK PGRI Sukadana. This study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles. The research subjects consisted of 26 children in Group B at TK PGRI Sukadana, including 14 boys and 12 girls. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, documentation, and child development assessment. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative methods to determine the improvement of children’s cognitive development in each cycle. The results of the study showed that color mixing activities were able to improve early childhood cognitive development. This was indicated by the decrease in the percentage of children in the Undeveloped category from 50% in Cycle I to 0% in Cycle II. Children also showed improvement in recognizing colors, distinguishing colors, and understanding that mixing two colors can produce a new color. The process of improving cognitive development occurred because children were actively involved in learning activities through observation, experimentation, and direct exploration. Thus, color mixing activities proved to be effective in improving early childhood cognitive development at TK PGRI Sukadana.

Abstract

This study explores the role of play-based activities in improving English language skills among early childhood learners in the digital era, where children are increasingly exposed to passive learning through screens. The objective of this research is to analyze how structured play activities can enhance vocabulary, speaking, and listening skills in early childhood education. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach involving 12 preschool children in one class over a period of 1–2 months. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that play-based learning activities such as singing, role play, and interactive games significantly improve children's English abilities, particularly in listening and vocabulary, while speaking skills show gradual development. The learning environment also became more engaging, increasing children’s participation, motivation, and confidence. The significance of this study lies in demonstrating that play-based learning provides a meaningful, enjoyable, and developmentally appropriate approach for language acquisition. In conclusion, integrating play into English learning effectively supports both linguistic and social development in early childhood

Abstract

This study aims to optimize the gross motor development of early childhood through the implementation of traditional games based on outdoor learning in the digital era. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed in Kelompok Bermain Tunas Harapan. The research subjects consisted of children aged 4–6 years, teachers, and parents selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and field notes, and were analyzed thematically using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that traditional games such as hopscotch, jump rope, and clogs effectively enhance children’s balance, movement coordination, large muscle strength, and self-confidence. Outdoor activities also help reduce children's dependence on digital devices while promoting social interaction. Teachers and parents responded positively to this approach as it aligns with children’s developmental needs. This study concludes that traditional game-based outdoor learning is an effective, contextual, and enjoyable strategy for improving gross motor skills while preserving local cultural values.
