Abstract

International Human Resource Management (IHRM) has emerged as a critical instrument for multinational enterprises in coordinating a geographically dispersed global workforce. Amidst the complexities of cultural differences, linguistic barriers, and diverse local regulations, enterprises are required to formulate adaptive strategies to align global employee performance with collective organizational goals. One strategic framework of growing importance in international HRM is the integration of Knowledge Management. This approach facilitates enterprises in identifying, documenting, distributing, and optimally utilizing intellectual assets across global business units. This article analyzes the contemporary challenges of international HRM, the strategic contribution of Knowledge Management in supporting global HR operations, and the systemic integration model between the two. The analysis indicates that this integration yields massive positive outcomes, ranging from productivity acceleration and strategic decision-making efficiency to enhanced employee loyalty and engagement. Through this holistic approach, global corporations can construct an inclusive, collaborative, and innovative work ecosystem amidst intense competition in the global market.

Abstract

The development of the digital economy has encouraged the emergence of platform-based work models known as the gig economy, in which workers obtain jobs through digital applications with characteristics of flexible working arrangements and on-demand employment systems. Although this model provides greater opportunities for income generation, it also raises legal issues, particularly regarding occupational safety and health (OSH) protection for gig economy workers, such as online transportation drivers and digital delivery couriers. Work systems controlled through algorithms, incentive mechanisms, rating systems, and performance targets may influence workers’ behavior and increase the risk of fatigue, physical and mental health problems, and occupational accidents. This study aims to analyze the legal responsibility of digital platforms in providing occupational safety and health protection for gig economy workers in Indonesia and to formulate an ideal legal accountability framework to ensure the protection of platform workers’ rights. This research employs a normative legal research method using statutory, conceptual, and analytical approaches. The findings indicate that although the legal relationship between digital platforms and gig economy workers is formally classified as a partnership relationship, platforms maintain significant control over work arrangements through algorithm management, task allocation, performance evaluation, and incentive structures. Such control demonstrates that platforms bear certain legal responsibilities in ensuring the occupational safety and health protection of workers. An ideal legal responsibility framework should include the recognition of a specific legal status for platform workers, the implementation of occupational safety and health principles within digital work systems, the provision of employment social security protection, risk prevention mechanisms, accident compensation schemes, and stronger government regulation and supervision over platform-based work arrangements in Indonesia.

Abstract

The designation of collateral—specifically land—as "abandoned land" creates legal issues, as it can compromise legal certainty and the protection of the creditor's rights as the security holder. This study aims to analyze the legal protection afforded to creditors in such situations and to examine the legal measures available to safeguard their interests. The study employs a normative legal research method, utilizing statutory, conceptual, and legislative approaches. The findings indicate that while security rights grant creditors priority, the designation of collateral as abandoned land can diminish or even eliminate its value if the land rights are revoked or seized by the government in accordance with applicable laws. Consequently, legal protection for creditors must be ensured through legal certainty, the careful application of credit principles, coordination between land offices and financing institutions, and the availability of mechanisms—such as approval processes or legal recourse—to address abandoned land designations that could prejudice creditors' rights. Therefore, clearer and more balanced regulations are required to ensure that the state's interest in designating land as abandoned remains aligned with the protection of creditors' rights as security holders.

Abstract

Police involvement in narcotics cases represents a legal irony that erodes public trust in law enforcement institutions. Police officers ought to serve as role models, yet they instead engage in the very crimes they are sworn to prevent. This study examines whether police officers involved in narcotics cases can face harsher penalties. We also seek to understand how the legal system addresses cases involving officers who accept bribes and participate in narcotics-related offenses. Our research employs a normative legal method, utilizing both statutory and conceptual approaches. The findings indicate that police officers involved in narcotics cases may be subject to more severe punishment due to their abuse of authority and betrayal of the public trust. When a police officer commits a narcotics offense and accepts a bribe, the situation constitutes concursus realis—meaning multiple distinct criminal acts involving different protected legal interests have occurred. Officers involved in such cases must be punished in accordance with applicable law. The public has a right to justice; therefore, judges must take into account the official status of the police officer when handing down a sentence. It is hoped that doing so will help restore public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

Abstract

Indonesia recorded an adult smoking prevalence of 30.4% in 2024, with a substantial gender disparity, reaching 59.7% among men compared to 1.2% among women. Amid this tobacco epidemic, individuals with mental health disorders consistently exhibit smoking rates two to four times higher than those of the general population, yet they have received limited attention within Indonesia’s national tobacco control agenda. This narrative review aims to synthesize empirical evidence on the determinants of smoking behavior among individuals with mental health disorders in the Indonesian context by integrating relevant global literature and examining its implications for the national mental healthcare system. A literature search was conducted using PubMed/MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Google Scholar with keywords related to smoking behavior, mental health disorders, and Indonesia. Studies published between 2014 and 2025 were prioritized, while seminal publications outside this period were included when considered substantially relevant. The findings indicate that the determinants of smoking behavior operate across four interrelated levels: (1) the biological–psychiatric level, including the nicotine self-medication hypothesis, diagnostic type and severity, and pharmacokinetic interactions with antipsychotic medications; (2) the psychosocial level, encompassing stress as a trigger, maladaptive coping strategies, and inadequate social support; (3) the structural–institutional level, including Indonesia’s mental health treatment gap, the absence of integrated smoking cessation protocols, and the widespread availability of tobacco products around mental health facilities; and (4) the sociocultural level, involving constructions of masculinity, gender norms, and family dynamics. Indonesia presents additional challenges due to weak tobacco control policies—as the only ASEAN country that has not ratified the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC)—and the unequal distribution of mental health professionals, which remains concentrated on Java Island. Smoking behavior among individuals with mental health disorders in Indonesia should therefore not be viewed solely as an individual choice but rather as the outcome of complex interactions among neurobiological factors, psychological distress, systemic healthcare limitations, and deeply rooted sociocultural norms. Integrating smoking screening and smoking cessation interventions into mental health services should become an urgent policy priority to improve both mental and physical health outcomes.

Abstract

Poor hygiene practices are the main factor contributing to worm infections. Worm infection is one of the most widespread diseases, affecting a large number of people around the world. In general, worm infections rarely cause serious illness, but they can lead to chronic health problems related to hygiene and economic factors. Worm infection is an endemic and chronic disease with a high prevalence that is not fatal, yet it gradually deteriorates human health, resulting in decreased nutritional status and overall public health. According to data from the World Health Organization (2019), more than 1.5 billion people (24% of the world’s population) are infected with worms.

Abstract

Background: First-stage labor pain is a physiological process experienced by nearly all women during childbirth and may affect maternal comfort, childbirth experience, and labor progress. Various non-pharmacological interventions have been developed to reduce labor pain, one of which is the use of a peanut ball. Objective: This literature review aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the peanut ball as a non-pharmacological intervention for reducing first-stage labor pain intensity. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Articles published between 2022 and 2026 were identified through PubMed, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library, SpringerLink, ProQuest, and Google Scholar. Article selection was performed using predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria based on the PICOS framework, resulting in eight eligible studies for analysis. Results: The synthesis demonstrated that the use of a peanut ball was generally effective in reducing first-stage labor pain intensity, improving maternal comfort and satisfaction, and promoting a more positive childbirth experience. Several studies also reported a tendency toward shorter labor duration, although the findings remained inconsistent. The effectiveness of the peanut ball is associated with its ability to facilitate maternal position changes, enhance pelvic mobility, and optimize fetal head descent during labor. Conclusion: The peanut ball is a safe, practical, and effective non-pharmacological intervention for reducing first-stage labor pain and has the potential to be integrated into evidence-based maternity care practices.
