Abstract

This study aims to determine the changes in rhyme, rhythm, and religious values in the qasidah Ila Arafati from the Diwan Ahmad Syauqi. This study uses a descriptive analytical method with qualitative research and an approach to the study of arudh and qawafi. The research data consists of 20 selected verses, out of a total of 41 verses in the qasidah Ila Arafati. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation and note taking methods, while data analysis techniques were conducted using taqthi arudhi to identify wazan, changes in zihaf and ilat, qafiyah analysis, and interpretation of meaning to reveal religious values. The results show that the qasidah uses Bahr Thawil with zihaf qabdh in hasywu and ilat hadzf in dharab. In terms of qafiyah, this qasidah uses the letter ta (ت) as its rawi muthlaq, classifying it as a taiyyah qasidah that is free from uyub qafiyah. In addition, this qasidah contains religious values, including the value of faith, worship (sharia) and morality. This study contributes to expanding Arabic literary studies through the analysis of arudh, qawafi, and religious values in Ahmad Syauqi’s qasidah Ila Arafati, which has received limited attention in previous research.

Abstract

This study demonstrates that the primary challenge in translating Indonesian literary works into Arabic lies in the cultural elements embedded in metaphors, proverbs, and local expressions. Employing a qualitative textual analysis of Hamka’s Di Bawah Lindungan Kaʿbah, the research reveals that differences in worldview between Indonesian and Arab societies influence lexical choices and stylistic expressions, making literal translation insufficient. The findings highlight the necessity for translators to grasp the cultural context of the source text to ensure comprehensive meaning transfer. The study contributes to translation studies by formulating strategies that integrate semantic and stylistic approaches, including transliteration with explanatory notes, functional equivalence in the target culture, and the preservation of social metaphors. These strategies prove effective in maintaining cultural authenticity while ensuring readability for Arabic audiences. Overall, the research reinforces the view that literary translation is an act of intercultural mediation, synthesizing linguistic, semantic, and cultural dimensions to preserve meaning, aesthetic nuance, and cultural resonance in the target language.

Abstract

Translation is one of the most important indispensable means of communication between people from different linguistic backgrounds, most especially in this digital age. This study examines the role of translation as a mediating tool for intercultural understanding on social media platforms, with particular focus on English-Arabic interactions in Nigeria that is known as a multilingual and culturally diverse society, where social media has become a key space for cross-cultural communication. The research adopts a qualitative approach, which is employed to analyse the content of selected social media post, alongside case studies of intercultural exchanges. It explores how translation facilitates communication across linguistic boundaries, while also investigating instances where mistranslation or loss of cultural nuance leads to misunderstanding or conflict. The findings highlight that translation on social media functions not only as a linguistic process but also as a form of cultural mediation. While machine translation tools enhance accessibility and speed, human translation, on the other hand, proves more effective in preserving pragmatic and cultural nuances. The study contributes to the fields of Translation Studies and Digital Communication by demonstrating the complex interplay between language, culture, and technology in online environments. It also provides practical recommendations for improving intercultural communication through more culturally aware translation practices on social media platforms.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the personality of the main character in the Arabic novel Alzheimer's by Ghazi Abdurrahman Al-Ghosaibi with the psychological theory of humanism, Carl Rogers. Personality analysis is carried out based on self-concept and the process of self-actualization of the main character in the novel. This qualitative research uses descriptive analysis methods, using data and sources from the Arabic novel Alzheimer's by Ghazi Abdurrahman Al-Ghosaibi. The data collection method uses documentation by relating each find in the novel to the theory used. The data validity technique in this study uses the perseverance technique. This study concludes that the personality that appears in the main character in the novel is influenced by the self-concept formed before and after suffering from Alzheimer's and the nature created based on the process of self-actualization. From these two concepts, the main character's personality varies depending on the influence caused by the idea

Abstract

The translation of Islamic texts requires careful negotiation between theological accuracy and readability. This study examines how that negotiation is realized in the Arabic-Indonesian translation practices of Pustaka Yasin. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a single-case study design, this research analyzes translated Islamic texts supported by in-depth interviews with the main translator. The data focus on ambiguous terms, culture-bound expressions, and Islamic terminologies, as well as the use of paratextual elements such as footnotes, glosses, and interpolations. The findings show that Pustaka Yasin consistently balances doctrinal precision and reader accessibility through a combination of micro-level translation techniques, selective retention of Arabic terms, and systematic use of paratexts. This pattern indicates a managed foreignization strategy in which foreign elements are preserved while readability is maintained through guided explanation. The study contributes to Arabic-Indonesian translation studies by showing that paratext functions not merely as an editorial supplement but as a central mechanism for negotiating meaning in the translation of Islamic texts.

Abstract

Translating Arabic film subtitles into Indonesian presents unique challenges, particularly in bridging linguistic and cultural gaps on global streaming platforms like Netflix. The film Naga (2023) serves as an intriguing subject due to its combination of Saudi Arabian religious-cultural discourse and the horror genre. This study aims to analyze the translation techniques employed in the Indonesian subtitles of the first 30 minutes of the film. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method using document analysis (observation and note-taking) on the subtitle data. The data were analyzed using the translation techniques framework proposed by Molina and Albir (2002). The analysis of 187 dialogue data revealed the application of six translation techniques: modulation, reduction, particularization, adaptation, borrowing, and transposition. Modulation was the most dominant technique (36.4%), followed by reduction (31.6%) and particularization (17.1%). The prominence of modulation and reduction indicates the translator's strong effort to adapt the characters' emotional expressions into the Indonesian cultural context, while simultaneously considering the spatial and temporal constraints (Characters Per Second) of the subtitle screen. These findings affirm that subtitle translation is not merely a linguistic transfer of meaning, but a cultural and contextual negotiation process to ensure the readability and acceptability for the target audience.
