Abstract

Mount Ciremai National Park has an area of ±15,500 ha with soil characteristics at various heights and varied slope directions. This study aims to determine the characteristics of soil properties in Gunung Ciremai National Park based on slope direction and its relationship with vegetation growth. The method used in this study is a systematic sampling method based on height intervals on four slopes with depths of 0-15 cm and 16-30 cm. The results showed 1). Soil pH in all four slopes with different heights in the acid-neutral category, 2). The soil texture is classified as sandy-loam and sandy-clay loam, 3). C-organic content is classified as low-very high, 4). The content of N-Total is classified as low-high. 5). P2O5 content is classified as very low-low, 6). K content is classified as low-very high, 7). Ca content is low-very high, and 8). Mg content is classified as low to high. Significant correlation tests of soil physical and chemical properties are found on several parameters such as C/N ratio, K, and Mg.

Abstract

This research is a quasi-experimental research that aims to determine the effect of discovery learning model assisted by liveworksheets on the independence of biology learning of high school class XI students. The population in this study were all students of class XI MIPA SMAN 14 Makassar. The research sample was selected randomly (random sampling) so that two classes were obtained, namely class XI MIPA 6 as an experimental class that used the discovery learning model assisted by liveworksheets and class XI MIPA 1 as a control class with 33 students each. Data collection was carried out by giving a questionnaire of learning independence as many as 30 statement items with four answer choices. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results of descriptive statistical analysis showed that the average value of the posttest in the experimental class was 86.09 higher than the average value of the control posttest which was 73.48. This study used covariate analysis (Anacova). Based on the results of inferential analysis obtained sig 0.001 smaller than 0.05. It can be concluded that the discovery learning model assisted by liveworksheets has an effect on the learning independence of biology students in class XI SMA.

Abstract

Public cemeteries are considered to be a potential source of groundwater pathogen contamination. Many settlements in Indonesia are located near cemeteries and rely on groundwater for consumption. However, there is no information available on whether the simple method of boiling can improve the microbiological quality of groundwater around cemeteries. Therefore, this experimental study aimed to determine the effectiveness of boiling in improving the microbiological quality of groundwater around Bonoloyo Cemetery. The study had two treatments: groundwater without boiling (control) and groundwater that had been boiled. Samples were collected from two points (S1 and S2) inside the cemetery and three points (S3, S4, and S5) outside the cemetery. The microbiological quality of groundwater was analyzed using the MPN method for each treatment. Samples that produced gas in positive tubes were inoculated on eosin methylene blue (EMB) media. The results of the study showed that S1, S2, S3, and S5 had total coliform levels that exceeded the normal threshold for water. Fecal coliform was found in S3 and S5. However, after boiling, there was an average decrease in total coliforms in samples S1, S3, S4, and S5. There was also no growth of E. coli in samples S3 and S5. The decrease in MPN values in the samples indicates that boiling can improve the microbiological quality of groundwater at cemetery Bonoloyo Surakarta.

Abstract

In this rainy season the risk of contracting Dengue Fever increases. Many people control dengue fever chemically. The use of chemical larvicides has many disadvantages such as environmental pollution, resistance, and negative impacts on human health. This research aims to develop a natural larvicide from extracts of soursop leaves (Annona muricata) and tapak dara leaves (Catharanthus roseus). The study used a completely randomized design, with three replications. Soursop leaf and tapak dara leaf extracts were extracted using a maceration process using 70% ethanol solvent. III-IV instar Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae were used during the experiment, to assess the effect of formula (3 levels), dose (3 levels), and exposure time for 12 hours. All data were analyzed using Two-way ANOVA. The research results showed that the F1 formula and D3 dose were effective in eradicating mosquito larvae. Where the higher the concentration of soursop leaf extract and the higher the dose, the higher the mortality of mosquito larvae.

Abstract

Practicum worksheets are a tool used by students to increase their understanding of various biological concepts through experiments and direct observation. However, there are many biology practicum worksheets used today often do not meet the appropriate standards. Therefore, this research aims to analyze conceptual, procedural, and knowledge construction aspects based on vee diagrams on students' practicum worksheets. The method used in this research is qualitative-descriptive. The samples were selected using purposive sampling so that six samples of practicum worksheets for phase F students in the Merdeka Curriculum were obtained with material testing carbohydrates in food. The research results show that conceptually, the practicum content is not in accordance with the learning outcomes in the Merdeka Curriculum. Procedurally, the practicum worksheets still need to be improved in terms of tools, materials, procedures, phenomenon objects, and data recording. This has an impact on students' difficulties in constructing their knowledge. It is hoped that the results of the reconstruction of practicum worksheets based on conceptual, procedural, and knowledge construction analysis can be used as a reference and basis for teachers in designing practicum activities specifically on digestive system material.

Abstract

In addressing environmental issues, it is important to measure STEM literacy achievement to increase students' environmental awareness and equip them with the necessary skills to contribute to finding solutions. This research aims to determine the profile of students' STEM literacy achievement in Bandung regarding environmental change issues. The research method used is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The research subjects comprised 193 tenth-grade students selected from SMA Negeri 1 Bandung, SMA Negeri 4 Bandung, and SMA Negeri 9 Bandung for the 2023/2024 academic year, chosen through simple random sampling. The research instrument consisted of 40 multiple-choice questions on environmental change issues, covering seven STEM literacy indicators: explaining phenomena scientifically, evaluating and designing scientific investigations, interpreting data and evidence scientifically, understanding technological principles, developing solutions to achieve goals, formulating situations mathematically, and using concepts, facts, procedures, or reasoning. Data analysis was conducted by calculating the average score of students' STEM literacy achievement per indicator as a percentage. The research results indicate that the percentage of students' STEM literacy achievement is 70%, categorized as moderate. The percentages per STEM literacy indicator are as follows: explaining phenomena scientifically at 71%, evaluating and designing scientific investigations at 61%, interpreting data and evidence scientifically at 73%, understanding technological principles at 76%, developing solutions to achieve goals at 74%, formulating situations mathematically at 61%, and using concepts, facts, procedures, or reasoning at 61%.
