Abstract

This study explores the complex relationship between zakat compliance, personal income, education level, religious knowledge, understanding of zakat, and financial well-being in Indonesia. Using numerical methods, information from a group of 120 people was examined using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modelling - Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Descriptive statistics provided a summary of the sample, and CFA verified the dependability and accuracy of the measurement model. The SEM-PLS study shows an important relationship between zakat compliance and economic well-being, with individual income, education level, religious awareness, and zakat literacy influencing this interaction. The results of this study help us understand how social and economic elements, along with religious beliefs, come together to influence economic outcomes in an Islamic setting. The real implication of this research could be the basis for stakeholders who have the authority to increase the level of zakat literacy.

Abstract

This study examines how different ways of distributing Zakat affect reducing poverty in Indonesia, with a focus on how effective Zakat groups are, the role of the government, public awareness, and the availability of Zakat monies. An investigation that involves 150 varied participants explores the connections between these parameters using Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares. The findings show important connections between effective Zakat groups, government assistance, public knowledge, availability of Zakat, and reducing poverty. The research offers important information for decision-makers, Zakat groups, and the general public to improve the impact of efforts to reduce poverty by making strategic changes in how organizations operate, government policies, social campaigns, and the availability of Zakat funds. Although this study offers useful information, there are several drawbacks, such as the possibility of bias in self-reported data and the ever-changing nature of socio-economic indicators. In the future, studies might look into the lasting effects of zakat distribution methods and examine how cultural and regional differences affect the success of poverty reduction efforts

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the government of the Sidoarjo district in Indonesia implemented regulations regarding worship in mosques, leading to both support and opposition among the community. This article examines the mosque management policies related to the mechanisms of prayer during the pandemic in Sidoarjo. The research adopts an empirical approach empowered by sociological jurisprudence, focusing on how law interacts with society. Data was collected through observations, interviews, and documentation and analyzed deductively using the maqasid al-shari'ah theory. The study reveals several key findings. First, nine mosques complied with Regent Regulation Number 31 of 2020, which mandated the suspension of religious activities within mosques. In contrast, two mosques did not follow this regulation. Second, all mosques adhered to Regent Regulation Number 32 of 2020, which permitted religious activities in places of worship, provided that health protocols were followed. Third, none of the mosques complied with Regent Regulation Number 44 of 2020, which stipulated that religious activities must be halted if anyone present tested positive for COVID-19. Based on these findings, mosque management that adhered to the Sidoarjo Regent's regulations in response to COVID-19 was fulfilling the principles of preserving religion and safeguarding life as outlined in maqasid al-shari'ah. Conversely, mosque management that did not comply with the regulations was acting contrary to these principles. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has thus indirectly influenced mosque management policies regarding worship practices. To align with maqasid al-shari'ah, mosque management should comply with the Sidoarjo Regent's regulations to promote benefits and avoid harm.

Abstract

Reading the Qur'an correctly and accurately is an obligation for every Muslim. One important aspect of Qur'anic recitation is Tajwid, which ensures the precise pronunciation of letters and adherence to proper articulation rules. However, many students at the Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah Awaliyah (MDTA) level still struggle to apply Tajwid rules when reading the Qur'an. This study analyzes the effectiveness of instructional assistance in improving the Qur'anic reading skills of fourth-grade students at MDTA Al-Falah, Desa Neglasari, Kecamatan Darangdan. The research employs a qualitative approach using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method, which involves direct participation from researchers, teachers, and students in the learning process. The study follows four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection methods include participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, while data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman model. The findings show a significant improvement in students' understanding and applying Tajwid rules. Before the intervention, only 40% of students had a basic knowledge of Tajwid, but this number increased to 85% after the assistance program. Students also demonstrated improved fluency in reading the Qur'an and greater confidence and enthusiasm for learning. This study highlights the crucial role of teachers and parents in supporting students' progress. It provides a model that other educational institutions can adapt to enhance the quality of Qur'anic education.

Abstract

This narrative review examines the transformative role of social media in contemporary Islamic preaching, focusing on Southeast Asia with an emphasis on Indonesia. The study aims to understand how digital platforms reshape da'wah practices, redefine religious authority, and facilitate inclusive discourse. Using a structured literature review method, sources were collected from databases including Scopus, Google Scholar, DOAJ, JSTOR, and ProQuest, employing keywords such as "digital da'wah," "Islamic preaching," and "social media and Islam." Inclusion criteria focused on peer-reviewed works published between 2010 and 2024, emphasizing digital religious practices in Muslim-majority contexts. The results show that social media enables visually engaging and emotionally resonant da'wah, increases interaction between preachers and audiences, and expands space for marginalized voices, including women and minority groups. Digital platforms have democratized Islamic discourse, disrupted traditional religious authority, and catalyzed reinterpretations of Islamic jurisprudence and gender roles. However, these advancements bring ethical and theological challenges, including misinformation, loss of scholarly oversight, and ideological polarization. National and local religious policies play a crucial role in shaping digital da'wah environments, either enabling or constraining its development. This review concludes that responsive religious policy and inclusive educational frameworks are essential to support ethical and effective digital da'wah. It recommends digital literacy integration in Islamic education, training for preachers, and further research into audience reception and global trends. As social media continues to influence Muslim religiosity, balanced approaches are necessary to sustain both innovation and theological integrity.

Abstract

In an increasingly interconnected global economy, ethical considerations have become central to sustainable business practices. This narrative review examines business ethics from an Islamic perspective by analyzing three main domains: ethical leadership, halal industry operations, and Islamic financial institutions. Using a thematic analysis of recent peer-reviewed literature, the study identifies core principles—such as justice, transparency, stakeholder engagement, and Shariah compliance—as pivotal to Islamic business ethics. The review reveals that leadership modeled on the Prophet Muhammad’s values fosters ethical organizational cultures and enhances employee trust and commitment. Additionally, the halal industry demonstrates substantial regional variation in ethical practices, with Malaysia and Indonesia offering more structured frameworks compared to the Middle East. In Islamic finance, Shariah-based governance, consumer trust, and social responsibility initiatives emerge as key differentiators from conventional banking. Despite these strengths, challenges remain in the form of fragmented regulatory systems, ethical inconsistencies, and cultural resistance. The study recommends institutional reforms, enhanced educational frameworks, and inclusive stakeholder engagement as strategic responses. These findings highlight the need for integrated approaches that align religious ethics with contemporary business challenges. This review contributes to the academic discourse by offering practical insights and policy-oriented recommendations to support the ethical development of Islamic business ecosystems.

Abstract

This narrative review explores the significance and application of interdisciplinary approaches in Islamic studies across domains such as psychology, gender, law, education, and public policy. The study aims to understand how integrating diverse academic disciplines enhances the theoretical depth and practical relevance of Islamic scholarship in addressing contemporary societal challenges. Using a systematic literature search strategy across databases like Scopus and Google Scholar, the review includes peer-reviewed empirical and theoretical studies that utilize interdisciplinary frameworks. The findings reveal that interdisciplinary strategies offer enriched insights into issues such as spiritual well-being, ethical leadership, gender justice, and culturally grounded policy-making. For instance, integrating psychology with Islamic teachings provides new models for understanding mental health and moral education, while feminist legal theory helps reframe gender roles in Islamic jurisprudence. The review also uncovers successful models of interdisciplinary practice in Southeast Asia and globally, including the integration of fiqh with astronomy and religiously-informed environmental conservation. However, systemic barriers such as academic bureaucracy, mono-disciplinary dominance, and resource constraints remain significant challenges. Addressing these requires institutional reform, increased funding, and enhanced collaboration across academic and community stakeholders. The study concludes by recommending more inclusive, locally adapted, and empirically grounded research to expand the impact of interdisciplinary Islamic studies. These approaches are essential in making Islamic scholarship more responsive, socially engaged, and transformative.

Abstract

This narrative review explores the contribution of Islamic teachings to environmental ethics and sustainability, aiming to assess how religious values influence environmental behavior, policy, and education in Muslim communities. Drawing on academic literature from databases such as Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar, the study synthesizes both conceptual and empirical findings related to Islamic environmental principles, particularly the concepts of khalifah, amanah, tawhid, and mizan. These principles are increasingly reflected in institutional practices by organizations such as Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama, and Islamic Relief Worldwide. The study reveals that Islamic ethical frameworks are not only theoretically robust but also practically applied through community-based environmental programs, sustainable finance, and green education initiatives. However, systemic challenges such as fragmented policy support, limited environmental education, and weak integration between religious and public sectors hinder broader impact. The discussion highlights the role of Islamic education and national policies in strengthening environmental awareness and fostering a sense of spiritual responsibility toward nature. It also identifies opportunities for global collaboration through faith-based environmental strategies. The review concludes that aligning Islamic ethics with environmental governance can offer powerful, culturally relevant solutions to ecological crises, and recommends further interdisciplinary and cross-faith research to scale these efforts globally.

Abstract

Religious moderation is increasingly recognized as a vital principle in Islamic education to counter radical ideologies and promote social harmony. This narrative review investigates how religious moderation is integrated into Islamic educational institutions in Indonesia, analyzing social, economic, educational, and policy-related factors that influence its implementation. Using a systematic literature review methodology, sources were retrieved from Scopus, Google Scholar, JSTOR, and Web of Science with a focus on peer-reviewed studies published between 2010 and 2024. Strategic keyword combinations and Boolean operators were employed to identify relevant literature. A total of 65 studies were selected based on defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, covering both empirical and conceptual research. Data from these studies were synthesized thematically across four categories—social, economic, educational, and policy dimensions—using a qualitative content analysis approach. Findings indicate that key social determinants, including interfaith dialogue, family influence, and institutional leadership, significantly shape students' attitudes towards moderation. Economic constraints often hinder curriculum development and teacher training, although financial support from government and NGOs proves effective. Educational attainment and religious literacy are positively correlated with openness to moderation, particularly when supported by culturally contextualized and interdisciplinary curricula. National and international policy frameworks offer substantial guidance, but inconsistent implementation and lack of localized strategies remain barriers. Comparative insights from countries such as Malaysia, Pakistan, Tunisia, and Turkey provide valuable models for policy adaptation. The review concludes that sustainable promotion of religious moderation in education requires coordinated policy, responsive curricula, robust teacher training, and community engagement. Future research should address underexplored dimensions such as student perspectives and the digital landscape. Overall, religious moderation must be positioned as a core value in education to nurture tolerant, critically-minded citizens.
