Abstract

Writing is a fundamental literacy skill that remains a major challenge for elementary school students in Indonesia. Many students experience difficulties in organizing ideas, constructing sentences, and maintaining writing motivation, which negatively affects their literacy development. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of positive reinforcement using picture card in improving elementary school students’ writing skills. The research employed a experimen approach with a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The participants were 20 third-grade students from UPT SDN 26 Gresik, selected based on initial screening results. Data were collected using a validated writing skill assessment covering aspects of letter formation, sentence construction, spelling accuracy, and writing neatness, and were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results indicated a significant improvement in students’ writing performance, with the mean score increasing from 25.00 in the pretest to 36.50 in the posttest, representing a 57% improvement. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores p = 0.001 (p < 0.05), with all participants demonstrating positive score gains. These findings confirm that positive reinforcement supported by picture card media is effective in enhancing elementary students’ writing skills. The study strengthens the application of Skinner’s operant conditioning theory in literacy learning and offers practical implications for developing engaging, motivating, and student-centered writing instruction in elementary education.

Abstract

Bullying behavior remains a serious issue in elementary school settings, particularly in verbal and social forms that negatively affect students’ psychological well-being and the overall school climate. This study aimed to implement and examine the effectiveness of psychoeducation on the dangers of bullying as a preventive intervention among elementary school students. The research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest format. The participants were sixth-grade students of UPT SD Negeri 26 Gresik who were identified as having tendencies toward bullying behavior. Data were collected through a bullying questionnaire administered before and after the psychoeducational intervention to measure students’ understanding and tendencies related to bullying behavior. Prior to its use, the instrument was tested and confirmed to be valid and reliable for measuring bullying-related constructs. The psychoeducation program was conducted intensively through structured sessions focusing on the definition, forms, psychological impacts, and prevention of bullying. Data analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test indicated a significant difference between pretest and posttest results, showing a reduction in bullying tendencies and an increase in students’ awareness and preventive attitudes. These findings demonstrate that psychoeducation on the dangers of bullying is an effective intervention for reducing bullying behavior and fostering prosocial awareness among elementary school students. This study highlights the importance of integrating psychoeducational programs into school-based guidance and counseling services to promote a safe, supportive, and bullying-free school environment.

Abstract

Current technological developments are advancing rapidly. These developments do not simply allow humans to live as usual; they have a major impact on human life. Students who do not hold or carry their cell phones feel uneasy or afraid because they do not bring their cell phones wherever they go. This term refers to nomophobia. This study uses a qualitative approach as a qualitative research design. This study will use in-depth interviews, while paying attention to data validity consisting of credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. Data analysis can be carried out in various ways, ranging from data reduction, data presentation, to drawing conclusions. At MDTA Aek Badak, cell phone use has become a worrying habit. Students find it difficult to focus, become easily agitated when they do not have their cell phones, become angry when asked to stop playing, and often come to class tired because they play until late at night. Guidance and counseling are at the forefront of addressing this issue. In addressing nomophobia, guidance counselors not only provide advice but also offer emotional support to students. The guidance and counseling at MDTA Aek Badak play an important role in overcoming nomophobia by using preventive, curative, and educational approaches. Parental involvement in monitoring cell phone use at home makes it easier to change and maintain student behavior, which supports the success of guidance and counseling.

Abstract

Low learning interest is one of the main problems commonly experienced by slow learner students in elementary schools. This condition affects students’ attention, participation, and willingness to engage in learning activities. Therefore, learning strategies that provide concrete and easily understood learning experiences are needed for slow learner students. This study aims to describe the implementation of the modelling technique in improving the learning interest of slow learner students in elementary school. This research employed a qualitative approach with a one-group pre-test–post-test design. The research subjects consisted of three third-grade students categorized as slow learners. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Learning interest was measured based on three aspects: attention, enjoyment, and enthusiasm. The results showed that the application of the modelling technique led to positive changes in students’ learning interest, indicated by increased attention during learning, more active participation in classroom activities, and improved self-confidence. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a significance value of p = 0.102, indicating that the improvement was not statistically significant. However, the consistent positive behavioral changes observed in all subjects suggest that the modelling technique has a positive practical impact on improving the learning interest of slow learner students. Thus, the modelling technique can be considered an alternative adaptive learning strategy to support inclusive learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and academic dishonesty among high school students. Self-efficacy refers to an individual’s belief in their ability to accomplish tasks and achieve specific goals. At the same time, academic dishonesty encompasses dishonest behaviors and violations of ethical standards in academic activities. This study employed a quantitative research method with a population of 346 students and a sample of 78 students selected using purposive sampling. The sample criteria in this study were students who had committed academic dishonesty as proven by screening results. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s product-moment correlation. The results indicated a correlation coefficient of -0.764 with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a significant negative relationship between self-efficacy and academic dishonesty. The coefficient of determination was 0.583, indicating that self-efficacy contributed 58.3% to the variance in academic dishonesty. Furthermore, a comparison between the hypothetical mean and the empirical mean revealed that students’ self-efficacy was relatively low, while the level of academic dishonesty was high. Therefore, the proposed hypothesis was accepted. Furthermore, based on the average score, the academic dishonesty score for male respondents was 50.76, while for female respondents it was 27.17. This indicates that the average academic dishonesty behavior was higher among male respondents than female respondents.

Abstract

Emotional intelligence is one of the key factors supporting the social and academic development of elementary school students; however, in reality, there are still students who struggle to manage their emotions, build positive social relationships, and express their feelings appropriately. This study aims to test the effectiveness of group counseling services in improving the emotional intelligence of elementary school students. This study uses a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design through a One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design. The research subjects consisted of seven fifth-grade students from the Muhammadiyah Kepong Counseling Center in Malaysia who were categorized as having low emotional intelligence. Data collection was conducted using an emotional intelligence scale with five aspects: self-awareness, self-control, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills. The data were analyzed using statistical tests to determine differences in students’ emotional intelligence levels before and after receiving group counseling services. The results showed an increase in students’ emotional intelligence scores after participating in group counseling. This improvement was evident in students’ abilities regarding self-awareness and self-control, increased empathy, and the development of more positive social relationships with peers. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that group counseling services are effective in enhancing students’ emotional intelligence. Therefore, group counseling services can serve as one of the intervention strategies that guidance and counseling teachers or school counselors can implement to support students’ emotional and social development.

Abstract

The phenomenon of overthinking in school-aged children is increasing in the digital era, characterized by a tendency for children to experience excessive worry, difficulty managing emotions, and low self-reflection skills. This condition needs to be addressed through innovative Guidance and Counseling services that are appropriate for children's digital world. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of group guidance using digital journaling techniques in managing overthinking in children under the guidance of the Kampung bharu Guidance Center, Malaysia. The study used a qualitative approach with a Guidance and Counseling Action Research (PTBK) design implemented in three cycles, involving 11 children aged 11–12 years. Each cycle includes planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages, with digital journaling as an expressive medium to explore thoughts and emotions. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and content analysis of digital journaling, and analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The results showed a significant increase in emotional well-being and self-regulation skills, with positive emotions increasing from 76.9% to 92.3%, negative emotions decreasing from 23.1% to 7.7%, and positive coping strategies increasing from 38.5% to 76.9%. This study confirms that digital journaling is effective in helping children recognize, manage, and reflect on overthinking. These findings offer an innovative intervention model that can be easily implemented in non-formal education to strengthen children's emotional regulation and mental resilience.
