Abstract

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) says that the Lord Jesus commanded His disciples to preach the gospel and also applies to us as believers to carry out the Great Commission. In preaching the gospel, there are many risks and challenges that missionaries must face and most likely that is what makes most people afraid to preach the gospel, so they prefer to remain silent and keep the good news to themselves. We need to study mission figures who made their lives historic for others when they preached the gospel in a place. Through their experiences, they can give us motivation and enthusiasm to participate in preaching the gospel. The researcher will discuss an evangelistic figure named Nommensen. In his childhood, Nommensen once heard a story about a missionary told by his teacher named Callisen, since then he began to be interested in an event in the story, namely about the struggle to free backwardness, slavery of poor children. In general, Nommensen is known as a famous German evangelist in Indonesia. Because the fruit of his hard work was the establishment of the largest church in the Batak Toba ethnic group. Namely the Church called Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP). The success of evangelism carried out by Ludwig Ingwer Nommensen in Tanah Batak is one of the most prominent examples in the history of missions in Indonesia. This study explores Nommensen's evangelism strategy from the perspective of evangelism theology, by highlighting how his inculturative, educational, and social service approaches contributed to the acceptance of Christianity among the Batak people.

Abstract

The concept of the face of the other in Emmanuel Levinas’s philosophy remains a relevant and enduring philosophical idea. The presence of the face interrupts the existence of the “I” and simultaneously calls it to ethical action. This moral summons constitutes an inherent ethical responsibility for every individual. In today’s digital era, the internet has formed a virtual space in which the face of the other emerges in new forms, including through digital content. This study examines how the concept of the face of the other is manifested in the content published by Katolikpedia.id across various digital platforms such as its website, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok. The aim of this research is to explore the extent to which these contents awaken ethical awareness and encourage moral action among followers, readers, and the general public. This study employs a qualitative method, using a combination of literature review and content observation. The findings reveal that the content of Katolikpedia.id, both explicitly and implicitly, communicates an ethical call to society to adopt a moral stance and act responsibly. Thus, digital media becomes a new space for the presence of the face of the other and for ethical encounters in contemporary contexts.

Abstract

This study explores the concepts of the visible and invisible Church using a qualitative approach with theological and historical methods. The invisible Church is understood as the true spiritual fellowship of all believers, known only to God, while the visible Church refers to the tangible institution that includes buildings, congregations, organizational structure, and leadership. Throughout Christian history, perspectives on the nature of the Church have varied—some emphasize its spiritual and universal aspects, while others focus on its organizational and institutional dimensions. Through the analysis of biblical passages such as Ephesians 1:22–23 and Colossians 1:18, along with theological insights and historical development, this study finds that a proper understanding of the Church must encompass both dimensions. Misinterpretation between these two concepts can lead to a limited understanding of the Church. The study affirms that the Church is not confined to formal institutions but is also the body of Christ comprising all true believers worldwide. By understanding the balance between the visible and invisible Church, Christians are encouraged to live in unity, strengthen their faith, and take an active and responsible role within church life. This understanding offers a broader perspective for living a more holistic and impactful faith life.

Abstract

Diaconal ministry is one form of church service that embodies the love of Christ in serving others. However, in practice, this ministry is often carried out in a charitable manner and has yet to fully address comprehensive and sustainable empowerment of the congregation. This study is driven by the urgent need to develop a diaconal service that not only provides temporary assistance but also effectively enhances the socio-economic independence of the congregation, particularly within the context of Gereja Isa Almasih Pringgading, where some Christian members face economic challenges due to limited access, resources, and institutional church support. The objective of this study is to analyze and describe the role of the Church Council in developing reformative and sustainable empowerment-based diaconal ministry. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, with data collected through in-depth interviews with Church Council members and service recipients, direct observations of diaconal activities, and documentation of church archives and social service reports. Data were analyzed thematically to identify patterns of service, empowerment strategies, and socio-economic impacts on the congregation. The study's findings reveal that the Church Council plays a strategic role in transforming diaconal ministry from mere charitable assistance into a structured empowerment program. Successfully implemented programs include entrepreneurial skills training, micro-business mentoring for congregation members, internal church cooperative development, and the establishment of local economic partnership networks. The impacts of these programs are reflected in increased household incomes, improved economic independence for some members, and strengthened social solidarity within the congregation. This study produces a conceptual model of empowerment-based diaconal ministry that can be replicated by other local churches to sustainably enhance congregational welfare.

Abstract

This article discusses the urgency of critical thinking skills in utilizing social media as a means of digital catechesis. Amidst the rapid and diverse flow of information in the digital era, critical thinking becomes an essential skill to avoid the spread of inaccurate or misleading information, especially in the context of conveying the teachings of faith. Social media does offer great potential as a medium for evangelization and catechesis, but the main challenge is the validity of the content which is often not verified. Therefore, digital catechesis teachers and participants are required to be able to analyze, evaluate, and filter information selectively and objectively. This article also outlines strategies for developing critical thinking skills, such as media literacy training, guided discussions, and the use of interactive content. By strengthening critical thinking skills, digital catechesis is expected to become an educational and transformative means in conveying faith values relevantly and responsibly in the digital space.

Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between the concept of sin in the Old Testament and the concept of the covenant. The thesis of this article is that the concept of sin in the Old Testament is describing the side of God's attribute, namely God's justice. While the concept of the covenant (covenant) is describing the attributes of God that represent God's love. The concept of sin in the Old Testament and its consequences is not showing God's wrath that is contrary to the God of love, but rather describing a God who is just and sovereign over His laws. Likewise, the concept of the covenant that is describing God's love, where God initiated the first and reminded Himself to humans who are His creations in the covenant. This agreement also shows God's loyalty to His people. This article will show that both the concept of sin in the Old Testament and the Testament concept have close ties and are bound together. By conducting the literature study method, this article will contribute conceptually useful to the concept of sin in the Old Testament and also the concept of the Covenant.

Abstract

This article explores the law and ethics of the Old Testament, drawing on Micah 6:8; highlighting its relevance as a guide for everyday life. In the often complex and conflicted modern context, the principles contained in these ancient texts offer profound insights into how to live meaningful and ethical lives. The Torah, consisting of commandments and regulations, served not only as a religious guide for the Israelites, but also as a moral foundation that can be applied by anyone seeking justice, love, and integrity in social interactions. This article examines various aspects of the law, including social justice, protection of the weak, and individual responsibility to the community. In addition, the ethics of the Old Testament emphasize the importance of the relationship between humans and God, as well as between humans. Values such as compassion, forgiveness, and respect are at the heart of these teachings, encouraging individuals to live in harmony with themselves and others. Through in-depth analysis, this article also provides concrete examples of how these principles can be applied in everyday life, whether in personal, social, or professional contexts. In this way, readers are expected to find inspiration and practical guidance for living a more ethical and meaningful life, in line with teachings that have existed for thousands of years.
