Abstract

ABSTRACT A pressure vessel is a container for a pressurized fluid, both liquid or gas. The stress on the shell of pressure vessel must have serious attention because the stress is the basic in determining the dimension and the type of material used, and also the treatment for the pressure vessel. This research intended to obtain the maximum stress in the pressure vessel 13ZL100040291 of the working pressure. The object of this research was a vertical type cryogenic pressure vessel at PT. Aneka Gas Industri, sagrat, Bitung. The analysis was conducted by applying the finite element method aided by softwares. Research results showed that the maximum stress at the inner vessel based on the software simulation is 203,79 MPa, with nominal stress of 33.965 MPa. The nominal stress based on the calculation using mechanical theory is 37,24 MPa. The stress calculation in simulation using software had considered the stress concentration. Afterwards, based on the simulation results, it was found that the stress concentration at the inner vessel and outer vessel is 6. The maximum stress calculated by the simulation software at inner vessel and outer vessel is stell in the safe limit, because the Von Mises stress is smaller than the allowed stress of each material used. Abstract

A gear is one of the important elements for transferring motion (especially rotation) and power or energy in a transmission system between the driver and the object to be driven. Gear manufacturing is quite complicated and complex with a variety of size and accuracy depends on the role of the gear itself in a machine. The use of speadsheet application provides advantages for designers where the design process becomes easier. Spreadsheet is an interactive computer application program to organize and analize data in tables. This paper presents an application of spreaddsheet that has been made for designing a spur gear. Abstract

Nowdays, the industry plays a vital role in the economy; therefore design of an efficient plant industry is very important. There is a component for handling a pressurized fluid, such as a pressure vessel. The purpose of this study was to determine the maximum deflection occurs at a vertical pressure vessel due to wind loads, and obtains maximum height of pressure vessels based on the allowable deflection. The object of this research is in Bitung. Bitung is one of the industrial cities located in the Province of North Sulawesi. Wind velocity was obtained from BMKG Bitung Maritime Station. Analysis of deflection applied to pressure vessel which has height of 25 ft to 150 ft. The results showed that the higher the pressure vessel, the higher the deflection. The maximum deflections for height of 25 ft to 150 ft have been determined. Furthermore, based on allowable deflection, the allowable height of the pressure vessel in Sagerat Village-Bitung City is 147.44 ft. Keywords         : Wind Load, Pressure Vessel, Deflection, Bitung

Abstract

Sulutgo interconnection system is the electrical energy suppliers for North Sulawesi and Gorontalo. Their role as the electrical energy supplier was complained by people in 2015, due to lack of electricity supply that lead to continuous rolling blackouts. Accordingly, it is important to identify the electrical peak load in Sulutgo system, so that the electrical necessity of the people can be properly fulfilled. The electrical peak load in the next 12 month is estimated using the backpropagation method artificial neural network and forecasting method moving average. The estimation was performed by using the last 24 month peak load data. Based on the results of both estimation, it is found the backpropagation method artificial neural network has fluctuated results while the forecasting method moving average gives stable results. The results of the estimation of peak load electricity using bacpropagation  artificial neural network method for the next 12 month starting from July 2016 to June 2017 are 327.48, 353.99, 316.32, 316.66, 332.37, 329.79, 332.31, 356.21, 318.60, 349.56, 351.37, 362.04 MW. While the results of the estimation method using moving average forecasting for the same period are 325.68, 326.03, 326.39, 326.72, 327.25, 328.09, 327.94, 328.72, 329.94, 330.32, 327.65, 326.52 MW.   Keywords: Estimation, Artificial Neural Network, Forecast Method Moving Average

Abstract

To predict the electrical energy need of North Sulawesi for one year ahead requires correct methods. The reliable methods used for the prediction task in this research are Artificial Neural Network and Exponential Smoothing. The prediction results using Artificial Neural Network are 110.38, 112.62, 111.56, 108.05, 107.95, 110.32, 109.90, 110.58, 113.26, 107.11, 115.60, 105.40 GWh. The prediction results using Exponential Smoothing are 112.32, 112.70, 113.07, 113.45, 113.82, 114.19, 114.57, 114.94, 115.32, 115.69, 116.07, 116.44 GWh.   Key words: Artificial Neural Network, Exponential Smoothing, Prediction, Electrical Energy Need.

Abstract

  Currently the development of robot technology is growing rapidly. The technology is utilized and developed to assist people in doing their activities more easily and efficiently. One application of the robotic technology is the line follower robot that is widely used in transportation in industrial field. The purpose of this thesis was to determine the working principle and reliability of the line follower robot with its main components that are power supply, sensors, microcontrollers, and motor drivers. The methodology of the research is to design and to assamble a line follower robot and perform direct testing of the reliability on the on 6,5m “Ϩ” - shaped tracked. The results show that the stages of the assembling of the line follower robot consist of the installation of each circuit and the installation of the drive system in robot frame. The test results show that the line follower robot is able to pass through the track well with average speed of 0,22 m/sec. Keywords : Design, Line Follower Robot, Microcontroller

Abstract

The aim of this work is to design a shaft for transmitting power of 100 hp. There are two gears on the shaft, and two bearings as supports at the shaft. Based on design result, diameter of critical points on the shaft have been acquired as follows; D1=1,80 in, D2=3,40 in, D3=3,74 in, D4=5,00 in, D5=4,40 in, and D6=3,15 in. Abstract

In this study whether the effect of cuts without using coolant differ significantly by cutting use liquid cooling to the power cut. To get the effect these cuts do testing on a lathe with a cutting speed varied. The results of this study, based on cutting anlisis detected by the fifth variation of the cutting speed will affect the power cut. With the greater the cutting speed will increase cutting power, good for lathing process with and without coolant. The process of turning the cooling liquid tends to be greater influence on cutting power compared to the lathing process without coolant. Based anlisis regression and correlation with level of 5% error hypothesis test two directions is known that in the process of turning cutting speed without coolant does not affect the power cut amounted to 73.48%. Abstract

Identifiying the mode of activity which having no activity is a strategic endeavour to inercase productivity. In this study the house of quality (HoQ) is integrated with FMEA to prever reocurrance of work in electricity generating company function. The result of this study revealed three most critical waste concerning to the motion waste with RPN 84, overproduction with RPN 72, and unused people with RPN 60.

Abstract

Refrigeration machines have become an important necessity in modern society’s lifestyle. To optimize the use of a refrigeration machine, the cooling capacity of the refrigeration machine must conform to the heat load to be tackled. This research was aimed at analysing the cooling loads of several food products, that are eggplants, cucumbers, tomatoes, and beer by using the cold box of Lucas Nulle Type RCC2 refrigeration machine in Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of Sam Ratulangi University. The required data in this research were the mass and temperature of the food products, and also the electrical current. The value of each data was obtained from three time experiments where each experiment was conducted in 60 minutes. Data analysis, then, resulted the cooling loads and required power of each food product, as follows:  for eggplants, the cooling load is 62.91 kJ with power of 241.23 Watt; cucumbers, cooling load 41.55 kJ, power 243.10 Watt; tomatoes, cooling load 60,36 kJ, power  235,62 Watt; and beer, cooling load 18,21 kJ, power 231,88 Watt. key word: cooling load, Refrigeration machines , LUCAS NULLE TYPE RCC2
