Abstract

This study examines the crucial role of local innovation ecosystems in supporting the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Indonesia, particularly amid increasingly competitive global economic conditions that heighten the need for innovation. Evidence shows that innovation in products, marketing, and processes significantly contributes to MSME performance. The local innovation ecosystem involves key actors—universities, corporate venture capital, and incubators. Universities not only supply skilled human resources but also act as sources of knowledge and technology through research activities and collaboration with industry. Corporate ventures provide investment, professional mentoring, and market networks, while incubators offer ongoing support by providing facilities, training/mentoring, and access to professional networks to accelerate MSME growth. The synergy between innovation and ecosystem support is considered essential for creating added value, expanding market access, and optimizing MSME performance, including through digital transformation. The study uses a systematic literature review approach by analyzing 12 relevant articles published between 2015 and 2025 to provide a comprehensive picture of how local innovation ecosystems influence MSMEs

Abstract

This study investigates domestic tourist preferences for sustainable rural tourism packages by examining trade-offs among price, carbon footprint, and local community participation. The research is important because domestic tourism plays a strategic role in supporting regional economic resilience, while sustainability challenges require tourism products that balance economic, environmental, and social values. Data were collected through a structured survey involving 300 domestic tourists from different generational groups (X, Y, and Z) in several rural tourism destinations in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A conjoint design was developed using 18 stimulus profiles and 4 holdout cases based on three attributes: price, carbon footprint reduction, and forms of local participation. Data were analyzed using Conjoint Analysis with Hierarchical Bayes Estimation to estimate individual preferences, followed by market simulation and cluster analysis to identify preference segments. The results indicate that price remains an important determinant, but environmental attributes and community-based activities significantly influence tourist choices, particularly among younger generations. The findings suggest that sustainable tourism packages should combine affordable pricing with visible environmental actions and authentic local engagement. Future research is recommended to include broader destination coverage and additional behavioral variables affecting sustainable travel decisions.

Abstract

Service quality is a strategic factor in the hotel industry, as it directly influences guest satisfaction, loyalty, and destination image. Harper Kupang Hotel, a star-rated hotel operating in Eastern Indonesia, faces increasing challenges in meeting increasingly complex guest expectations, particularly in the post-pandemic period and amid intensified competition in the hospitality industry. This study aims to examine guest perceptions of service quality at Harper Kupang Hotel through an in-depth qualitative approach using the SERVQUAL framework. The research employed a qualitative case study design, with data collected through in-depth interviews with 15 purposively selected informants, comprising business and leisure guests. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify gaps between expected and perceived service quality across the five SERVQUAL dimensions: tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. The findings indicate that the tangibles and assurance dimensions are perceived relatively positively. At the same time, significant gaps remain in the responsiveness and empathy dimensions, particularly regarding service speed, consistency of service attitudes, and personalization of guest interactions. These results suggest that operational standards do not solely determine service quality but are strongly influenced by employees’ interpersonal competencies and their sensitivity to guest needs. Theoretically, this study reinforces the relevance of SERVQUAL within a qualitative research context and contributes to the literature on hotel service perceptions in marginal tourism regions. In practical terms, the findings offer strategic recommendations for hotel management and regional tourism.

Abstract

Agrotourism has emerged as a strategic approach to rural development, offering significant potential to enhance community welfare through the utilization of local resources. Oelbiteno Village possesses considerable potential in strawberry farming; however, this resource has not yet been optimally developed as an agrotourism attraction. The development of strawberry-based agrotourism is expected to function as a mechanism for both economic and social empowerment of the local community. This study aims to examine the potential for developing strawberry agrotourism as a means of community empowerment in Oelbiteno Village. A qualitative research design with a descriptive approach was employed. The study was conducted in Oelbiteno Village, with participants consisting of strawberry farmers, village officials, and local community members selected through purposive sampling. The independent variable in this study is the potential of strawberry agrotourism, while the dependent variable is community empowerment. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Triangulation was applied to ensure the validity and reliability of the findings. The findings reveal that Oelbiteno Village has strong natural, agricultural, and social potentials that support the development of strawberry agrotourism. Furthermore, the development of this sector has the potential to enhance community income, participation, and institutional capacity, provided it is managed in a well-planned and sustainable manner.

Abstract

Bajulmati Beach in Malang Regency has significant potential as a marine tourism attraction, supported by sea turtle conservation efforts through the presence of Bajulmati Sea Turtle Conservation (BSTC). An analysis of the implementation of marine tourism principles indicates that the attraction at Bajulmati Beach also has the potential to serve as a tourism destination with educational and recreational value. This study aims to analyze the application of marine tourism principles at Bajulmati Beach, Malang Regency. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that the implementation of marine tourism principles in the Bajulmati Beach tourism area has been effective, as reflected in three main areas: education, natural resource conservation, and the application of codes of conduct. The educational aspect is implemented through the “Sekolah Alam” (Nature School) program, informational media, and the involvement of tourists in conservation activities. The natural resource conservation aspect is demonstrated through sea turtle habitat management, coastal vegetation planting, and spatial planning of the area. Meanwhile, the code of conduct is applied to managers, tourists, and local communities through rules that support environmental sustainability. Thus, sea turtle conservation activities in the Bajulmati Beach area not only serve to preserve sea turtles but also support the development of sustainable marine tourism.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of effective housekeeping operational performance in supporting hotel service quality, particularly in laundry activities, which are highly dependent on technical factors such as chemicals and equipment. Frequent problems include inconsistent washing results, process delays, and potential increases in operational costs. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of laundry chemicals and equipment quality on the effectiveness of housekeeping operational performance. This study used a quantitative, survey-based approach. Data were collected through questionnaires from 30 housekeeping employees involved in laundry operations using a saturated sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression with the help of statistical software (SPSS), and through validity, reliability, and classical assumption tests to ensure model adequacy. The results showed that laundry chemicals (β = 0.421; p < 0.05) and equipment quality (β = 0.367; p < 0.05) had a positive and significant effect on performance effectiveness, contributing 64.6%. Optimizing technical operational factors is crucial for improving housekeeping effectiveness. Further research is recommended to include other variables, such as employee competency and the monitoring system.

Abstract

Indonesia faces the potential risk of natural disasters such as landslides and extreme weather. Lake Ngebel is one of the attractions with this level of vulnerability. This study aims to analyze the preparedness of natural disaster crisis management in the Lake Ngebel tourist area. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, with the research location at Lake Ngebel, Ponorogo. The research subjects included the Regional Disaster Management Agency as key informants, tourism managers as primary informants, and tourists as supporting informants. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, with data analysis carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of crisis management is not optimal. In the pre-crisis phase, the unavailability of disaster hazard maps and ineffective risk communication indicate low preparedness, even though evacuation routes are available. In the crisis phase, coordination and emergency response were quite effective according to standard operating procedures and supported by simulation training. In the post-crisis phase, an evaluation has been conducted, but its implementation requires strengthening. Overall, crisis management still tends to be reactive.

Abstract

The phenomenon of recreational physical activity in public spaces is associated not only with health benefits but also with the potential to generate local economic dynamics that remain underexplored within an integrated framework. This study aims to examine the integration of physical activities and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) consumption as a form of hybrid tourism practice embedded in everyday life, and its implications for strengthening the local economy. The research was conducted in Tridadi, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, where active consumption practices accompany high-intensity daily physical activities. A qualitative approach was employed through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques, including data reduction, categorization, and interpretation. The findings reveal that recreational physical activities catalyze the emergence of temporary informal economic spaces, which contribute to increased MSME transactions, expanded market access, and strengthened social relations between vendors and the community. This integration reflects a fluid and interconnected hybrid tourism practice within everyday spatial contexts. The study highlights that physical activities serve not only as recreational practices but also as mechanisms to strengthen local economic development, offering pathways toward more inclusive and sustainable tourism.

Abstract

This study aims to develop tourism education media based on the Monopoly Post game and to analyze its effectiveness in improving students' knowledge at SMKN 3 Komodo in Labuan Bajo.  This research uses a Research and Development (R&D) approach, which includes the stages of needs analysis, product design, development, expert validation, limited trials, and field trials. The research instruments included expert-validation questionnaires, observation sheets, and pretests and posttests to measure improvements in students' knowledge. The results of the study show that the Monopoly Post media developed has a very high level of feasibility, based on assessments by material and media experts, with an average feasibility score above 4.7, placing it in the category of very suitable for use as a learning medium. In addition, the trial results among students showed a significant increase in tourism knowledge. The students' average pre-test score of 64.5 increased to 87.4 on the post-test, a gain of 22.9 points, or approximately 35.9%. This shows that the Monopoly Post media is effective at increasing students' understanding of basic tourism concepts, destination potential, and elements of the tourism industry. In addition to cognitive enhancement, this media has been shown to increase participation, motivation to learn, and interaction among students during the learning process. Game-based approaches provide a more interactive, contextual, and enjoyable learning experience. Thus, the Pos Monopoli educational media can be an effective and relevant learning innovation in supporting the improvement of the quality of tourism education at the vocational high school level.

Abstract

Adaptive reuse of heritage buildings has become increasingly important for supporting the sustainability of historic districts. However, studies integrating design intervention, spatial character, and district identity formation within the context of place branding remain limited, particularly in multicultural heritage districts. This study aimed to examine how design interventions in heritage buildings shaped spatial character, generated spatial experience potential, and contributed to district identity formation in the Old Town of Surabaya. This research employed a qualitative approach using a multiple-case study strategy involving four heritage buildings representing different cultural zones. Data were collected through field observation, visual documentation, and literature review, and subsequently were analyzed using a descriptive-interpretative approach through spatial configuration analysis, functional transformation analysis, and cross-case comparison. The findings indicated that design interventions influenced spatial configuration, circulation patterns, functional hierarchy, and contextual integration, resulting in diverse forms of spatial experience potential. The findings further indicated that spatial experience potential functioned as a mediating mechanism between spatial transformation and place perception, while place branding in heritage districts emerged through the interaction between spatial identity, narrative meaning, and spatial experience generated through design. This study developed a design-driven place branding model that linked design intervention, spatial experience potential, and district identity formation. Future research is recommended to further validate this model through post-occupancy evaluation and visitor perception studies across different heritage district contexts.
