Abstract

Saka Bali Arts, as one of the home-based woodcarving industries in Singapadu Village, Gianyar Regency, Bali, has a potential to process white sandstone residue into artworks. Using sandstone as the main base material, Saka Bali  Arts produces 1.4 cubic to 2 tons monthly of sandstone residue. Normally, this is disposed of or used as landfill material for building construction or sent to other vendors to produce artworks like small sculptures and reliefs with simpler shapes, depending on the customer's demand. However, producing processed white sandstone residue received little attention from producers and consumers. This situation resulted in the lack of diversified artwork products displayed on the storefront. The main reasons are the lack of local artisans' skills to produce different kinds of products from sandstone residue and the lack of a marketing development strategy, so the market reach of processed sandstone residue is unexploited. Hence, efforts are needed to develop more specific interior products and a product diversification strategy through product recycling to increase long-term sales. Another way to support this is by optimizing branding and marketing to expand marketing. This study uses the methodology of Murdjito (2022) in the form of stages carried out in the implementation of community service activities. In the long term, we expect Saka Bali Arts to become a model for similar home-based industries in optimizing white parasite stone material residues through increased product innovation, sales, and profitability.

Abstract

People with disabilities in Indonesia still often face limitations in accessing public facilities that meet their needs. This highlights the importance of providing disability support facilities that meet standards, especially in public spaces, for community interaction. One example of a public facility that accommodates the community is an art building, the Dharma Negara Alaya (DNA) Arts Building, located in Denpasar City, Bali Province. This study aims to analyze the standardization of supporting facilities for people with disabilities in the Dharma Negara Alaya Arts Building, focusing on accessible toilet facilities. The analysis was carried out based on the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works Number 30 of 2006, which regulates technical guidelines for facilities and accessibility in building structures and the environment. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach through direct observation and interviews with building users to evaluate the adequacy and suitability of the design of accessible toilet facilities. The study results on the Implementation of accessible toilet facilities in the Alaya Building have followed the standards by the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works of 2006 concerning Guidelines for Technical Requirements for Buildings, and the availability of toilet facilities has been met. However, some design deficiencies still need to be fixed or improved, such as the use of door materials, the room size not yet optimal for standard movement, and no elbow ramps to help wheelchair users access. There are no sanitary facilities or special washbasins for people with disabilities. This research is expected to provide insight into fulfilling the needs of inclusive design for people with disabilities and provide recommendations for improving accessibility at the Dharma Negara Alaya Arts Building, especially for accessible toilet facilities.

Abstract

This study investigates how the guardian figures in Chinese temples across Bali visually represent cultural hybridity between Chinese religious traditions and Balinese symbolic aesthetics. Using a descriptive-interpretive qualitative approach based on the idea of visual rhetoric, this study examines seven temples across Balinese regencies. Photographic documentation and ethnographic interviews with temple representatives and craftsmen were conducted to collect data. In this sense, photography is a documentation tool, yet also a visual analysis method, providing a deeper interpretation of cultural negotiation. This study shows that while the guardian figures within the Chinese temples in Bali retain core Chinese iconographic elements, such as mythological animals and heroic deities, they also adopt Balinese traditional ornaments. Due to influenced by the both Chinese and Balinese heritage of the Chinese-Balinese community, these visual adaptations demonstrate a conscious integration of Balinese cultural identity within Chinese sacred forms. In this sense, guardian figures play a significant role as visual intermediaries within sacred spaces, representing both protective symbolism and the spatial hierarchy of the temple’s design. Ultimately, this study contributes to the understanding of transcultural religious design and provides insights into the role of visual culture as a medium of spiritual expression and the construction of hybrid identity within a multicultural urban environment.

Abstract

The development of technology and easier access to information have changed how Generation Z learns and interacts with their surroundings, including how they utilize library facilities. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing Generation Z's preferences in visiting libraries in Denpasar City, focusing on the interior design aspects of library spaces. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach, which involves observation, questionnaire distribution, and in-depth interviews with Generation Z students in Denpasar City. The results showed that interior design is crucial in attracting Generation Z's interest in visiting the Library. Libraries that carry a modern design concept, with adequate technological facilities to support learning and working activities, are more desirable than libraries that carry traditional concepts. Based on these findings, the proposed strategic solution is to implement the Modern Reading Hub concept, which combines ergonomic interior design, advanced technological facilities, and other supporting facilities. This concept is expected to create a library space that is more interactive, comfortable, and relevant to the needs of Generation Z in undergoing productive and fun learning activities.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology and intense exchange of information has caused the younger generation to be easily influenced by outside cultures. This has resulted in the traditional food of Kraton Yogyakarta, which is full of philosophy and deep cultural values, is threatened to be forgotten by the current generation, especially Generation Z in Yogyakarta. The purpose of this research and design is to focus on efforts to preserve traditional food through board game media integrated with Augmented Reality technology to educate the importance of traditional cuisine as a regional cultural identity. The design method uses the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model, which consists of needs analysis, game conceptual design, prototype development, trial implementation, and effectiveness evaluation. This method was chosen because it provides a systematic structure in designing an effective gaming experience. The results of the study indicate that there is a crisis of knowledge regarding traditional culinary culture among Generation Z in Yogyakarta, caused by a lack of media that presents such content in a visually appealing and technologically relevant manner. The design results show that board games with Augmented Reality technology can create an interactive and immersive educational experience and increase Generation Z's understanding of the food philosophy of the Yogyakarta Palace. This research and design is expected to contribute to the development of interactive, immersive, and sustainable educational media.

Abstract

Rejang Inyeng  is a sacred dance preserved in Tiyingan Village, Petang District, Badung Regency. Performed by young girls before menstruation during the Purnama Kapat and Purnama Kedasa ceremonies, the dance functions as a ritual to welcome deities. However, its continuity faces challenges due to limited academic documentation and a hiatus during the pandemic. This study aims to represent the symbolic meaning of Rejang Inyeng  through documentary film as a cultural preservation strategy. The research employed a qualitative approach by combining Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotics, visual ethnography, and the Save the Cat narrative model. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, literature studies, and documentation, while information tracing was guided by the concept of Catur Guru and the Glass Box method. Analysis was conducted by linking signifiers, such as dance movements and performers, with signifieds such as purity, sanctity, and cultural regeneration, further deepened through the concept of Dasa Aksara. The findings indicate that the documentary effectively represents the symbolism of Rejang Inyeng  in a communicative way, serving not only as a visual archive but also as an educational and cultural transmission medium. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of Saussurean semiotics with Dasa Aksara, the application of Catur Guru in data exploration, and the adaptation of Save the Cat within a sacred documentary.
