Abstract

The role of women as breadwinners is often considered unusual in Muslim societies, which traditionally associate this role with men. However, in Konang Galis Village, Pamekasan, the phenomenon of women working or even being the main providers for their families has become a common occurrence, unbound by local religious or cultural norms. This study aims to understand the reasons women become breadwinners, their feelings about this role, and the responses from those close to them. Additionally, the research explores their income levels and their hopes for the future of their households. This study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach in Konang Galis Village, Pamekasan. Data were collected through documentation from interviews with two female breadwinners and direct observations in the field. The findings indicate that the reasons for women working vary, ranging from personal desires to economic factors, such as husbands who are unable to work. There is no coercion from any party; in fact, there is support from family and the surrounding environment. The informants earn sufficient income to meet their family needs and express a desire to continue working in the future. This research provides insights into gender dynamics within household economic roles in rural Muslim communities. The results of this study can serve as a reference for gender studies, social policies, and economics, as well as for further research in sociology and Islamic studies.

Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 27.0. The results of the EFA analysis revealed that the instructional leadership variable is represented by 20 items (no items were excluded), teacher commitment is represented by 18 items (no items were excluded), and student achievement is represented by 22 items (no items were excluded). Overall, the EFA results demonstrate that these instruments are appropriate for the primary research within the context of daily secondary school teachers in Kedah, Darul Aman. Additionally, the article provides evidence-based statistical guidelines for conducting EFA to ensure the validity of research instruments, ensuring their relevance to the specific context of the study.

Abstract

The reform of Islamic thought in the Middle East and South Asia emerged as a response to colonialism and the challenges of modernity. Figures such as Jamaluddin Al-Afghani, Muhammad Abduh, Rashid Rida, Hassan Al-Banna, Sayyid Ahmad Khan, Abul A'la Maududi, Ali Shariati, and Muhammad Ali Pasha initiated religious reforms that significantly influenced the struggle for independence in the Islamic world. However, comparative studies on their contributions to independence movements in these two regions remain limited. This study aims to analyze the ideas of key Islamic reformers and examine their relevance in addressing contemporary challenges. Using a qualitative historical approach, this research explores how these reformers integrated Islamic teachings with modern advancements in education, governance, and law to resist colonialism. The findings show that Islamic reformers played a crucial role in shaping nationalist movements, reviving Islamic identity, and supporting the establishment of independent Muslim nations. Their advocacy for education, ijtihad (independent reasoning), and political unity formed the foundation of anti-colonial resistance. In conclusion, Islamic thought reform not only contributed to national independence but also continues to influence contemporary Islamic governance and social movements. This study offers valuable insights into the dynamic relationship between Islam, modernization, and political independence, and provides a basis for further research on the relevance of Islamic reformist thought in the modern era.

Abstract

Translanguaging has emerged as a significant pedagogical approach in multilingual classrooms, allowing learners to fluidly navigate between languages to enhance comprehension and engagement. In linguistically diverse settings, particularly those involving indigenous learners, translanguaging serves as a bridge between students’ home languages and the target language, fostering more inclusive and effective learning experiences. This study explores an English teacher’s perceptions, applications, and challenges in implementing translanguaging in a multilingual classroom. Using a narrative qualitative approach and purposive sampling, the study focused on an English teacher at Hinandayan National High School, Agusan del Norte, who has experience teaching Higaonon learners. Thematic analysis was employed to examine the data. Findings indicate that while the teacher perceives translanguaging as beneficial for enhancing learners' comprehension, some students still struggle to improve their English academic performance. The teacher frequently relied on translation to facilitate understanding, yet specific translanguaging strategies were not explicitly employed due to a lack of formal training. A major challenge arose in writing activities, as learners preferred to use their mother tongue, requiring the teacher to reinforce the importance of English usage. The study recommends selectively integrating translanguaging for learners struggling with English comprehension and providing teachers with specialized training to maximize its effectiveness.
