Abstract

The revival of Sufism among urban communities is an intriguing phenomenon amid the rapid development of science and technology. Technological advancement, which was initially expected to improve the quality of human life, has not fully succeeded in fulfilling the inner and spiritual needs of modern society. This condition has contributed to various social and psychological problems, including anxiety, alienation, a loss of meaning in life, and the weakening of moral values. In such circumstances, religious practices that are limited to formal and ritualistic aspects without deep spiritual internalization may further intensify the experience of alienation among urban communities. Sufism has consequently emerged as an alternative approach to fulfilling spiritual needs by emphasizing self-purification, closeness to God, the internalization of religious values, and the cultivation of moral character. Therefore, the renewed interest in Sufism can be understood as a response from modern society to the limitations of materialism and rationalism in providing inner peace and meaning in life. This spiritual revival is expected to contribute to addressing spiritual and moral crises while fostering a more balanced urban life that integrates material progress, spiritual depth, and social responsibility.

Abstract

Students residing in the dormitory come from diverse regional, cultural, linguistic, and even national backgrounds; consequently, communal living must be managed based on the value of tolerance to prevent exclusivity, discrimination, and conflict. This study aims to explain the strategies employed by the administrators of the Al-Nur Dormitory at Ma'had Al-Zaytun to foster a culture of tolerance and equality, as well as the benefits of these strategies for harmonious dormitory life. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with nine purposively selected informants—comprising three dormitory administrators, three student dormitory leaders, and three resident educational staff members—and supplemented by participant observation and documentation. Data analysis involved reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation of sources, methods, and theories used to verify data validity. Findings were mapped using SWOT analysis and a TOWS matrix. The results indicate that administrators combine structural and cultural approaches through measures such as heterogeneous room assignments, daily activities, guidance from room supervisors, weekly deliberations, administrators setting a good example, and conflict resolution via *tabayun* (verification/clarification) and consultation. These strategies form an integrated combination of SO, WO, ST, and WT approaches. The benefits are evident in increased student interaction, reduced conflict, the growth of mutual respect and a sense of security, and equal opportunities for participation and guidance.

Abstract

Mental health has become one of the most pressing global concerns, yet modern psychology tends to approach it mainly through biological and cognitive lenses while giving limited room to the spiritual dimension of human beings. Islam offers a holistic view in which the tranquillity of the heart is inseparable from the remembrance of God, as expressed in QS. Ar-Ra'd : 28. This study examines the concept of mental health formulated by the ninth-century physician Abu Zayd al-Balkhi in Masalih al-Abdan wa al-Anfus and reads it through the lens of maqashidi interpretation of QS. Ar-Ra'd : 28. Using a qualitative library-research method with a descriptive-analytical design, data were drawn from the Qur'an, classical exegetical works, al-Balkhi's treatise, and contemporary scholarship, then analyzed through reduction, presentation, and interpretive analysis. This study aims to analyze the concept of mental health from an Islamic perspective, examine Abu Zayd al-Balkhi's concept of mental health in Masalih al-Abdan wa al-Anfus, and analyze QS. Ar-Ra'd: 28 from the perspective of maqashidi interpretation and integrate it with al-Balkhi's concept of mental health. The findings show that al-Balkhi classified psychological disturbance into four categories-fear and panic, anger, sadness and grief, and obsessive thought-all of which can be addressed through a combination of cognitive and spiritual strategies. Read maqashidically, QS. Ar-Ra'd : 28 positions the remembrance of God (dzikrullah) as the wasilah that produces tranquillity of the heart (tuma'ninah al-qalb), pointing toward the higher objectives of preserving the soul (hifz al-nafs) and preserving the intellect (hifz al-'aql). The study concludes that al-Balkhi's psychological framework and the Qur'anic teaching on dzikr converge in offering an integrative, spiritually grounded model of mental health.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the meaning and boundaries of the Prophet Muhammad's long hair from the perspective of hadith and to explore the living hadith phenomenon among long-haired students at the Faculty of Usuluddin and Islamic Studies (FUSI), UIN North Sumatra. This study employs a qualitative method combining library research through the Ma’ani al-Hadith approach and field research using in-depth interviews and observation. The findings reveal two main points. First, textually, variations in authentic narrations regarding the Prophet's hair length (ranging from ears to shoulders) occurred due to differences in time and circumstances. Scholars categorize growing long hair as Sunnah Ghairu Tasyri’iyyah (Arab cultural tradition) which is permissible (mubah), whereas its Sunnah Tasyri’iyyah aspect lies in the obligation to maintain and care for the hair. Second, within the realm of living hadith, the perception among long-haired students is not based on rigid doctrines, but on a dialectic between self-expression and emotional attachment to the Prophet. This awareness is actualized through a commitment to maintaining physical neatness during lectures, which successfully dispels negative social stigmas in the academic environment. This study emphasizes that the social acceptance of long hair in Islamic universities is strongly determined by aligning ethics, local custom (‘urf), and personal tidiness.

Abstract

The development of information technology and changes in communication patterns have encouraged students to adapt their preaching methods to evolving media and the characteristics of modern society. This study aims to analyze the adaptation of preaching methods among students of the Islamic Da'wah Management Study Program at IAI AL-AZIS, including forms of adaptation, digital media utilization, and supporting and inhibiting factors. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation involving seven students selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, comprising data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that students adapt their media, delivery methods, language, content, and approaches to their audiences. Digital media utilized include Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp, Zoom, podcasts, short videos, Islamic quotations, and interactive content. These adaptations aim to make preaching more communicative, creative, humanistic, and relevant to younger generations. Supporting factors include the academic environment, lecturer guidance, training, and technological skills. Challenges include hoaxes, information overload, negative comments, changing social media algorithms, limited technical skills, time constraints, and differences in audience understanding. These challenges are addressed through information verification, improved digital literacy, time management, training, and collaboration. The findings emphasize that adapting preaching methods requires integrating media, communication, content, approaches, and digital competencies while maintaining the fundamental values of Islamic preaching.

Abstract

This study analyzes the service quality of PT Prima Karya Sarana Sejahtera (PKSS) and its relationship with workforce development in the Jakarta III Operational Region, covering the level of service quality, the level of workforce development, the relationship between the variables, and the magnitude of its contribution. A quantitative method with an associative approach was employed. Service quality was measured using an adapted SERVQUAL model, while workforce development was measured through the dimensions of quantity, quality, access, and sustainability. Data were collected through a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire administered to 379 respondents comprising placed workers, PKSS management/staff, and representatives of client companies, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, Pearson Product Moment correlation, and simple linear regression. The results show that the service quality of PT PKSS falls within the good category (mean of 3.64). The correlation test yielded r = 0.724 (significance 0.000), indicating a strong and positive relationship between the two variables. The regression analysis produced the equation Y = 8.234 + 0.673X with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.524, meaning service quality contributes 52.4% to workforce development. The study concludes that PKSS service quality has a positive and significant effect on workforce development, with sustainability being the dimension most in need of improvement.
