Abstract

A new model of technology used to improve teaching and studying literacy to arrange the class is just one way to improve the teaching and learning process. Technology, computer and internet connection will become one of the torches that can do this. It creates a fairly positive learning environment for students to learn English in an informal, stimulating, meaningful and enjoyable way with the help of audio and visual images. It combines the methods of the use of modern technology within the internet and computer programs and applied them to language instruction. With continued efforts and further improvements, technology computer and internet connection is expected to mature into a program that benefits many language learners around the world.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Learning English as a foreign Language is challenging. It needs motivation and strong effort. The most difficult skill in English is Speaking. There are some components for making speaking improved. Those components must be covered and faced by all speakers. In order to teach Speaking skill to students, the teachers can use appropriate method which is effective and right for students’ need. Spying Method can be the sollution to make students easy to speak and get ideas. Spying Method has been applied and the result showed that it was effective and helped students to write. Therefore, many methods can be applied to make students fun and happy in speaking. We can choose method which is effective and easily to be used. The purpsoe of this study is to know whether the spying method is effective or no to increase students’ ability in speaking skill. .Quantitative method with quasi experimental were used. The result of this study showed that there was siginificant improvement the use of spying method in speaking skill ABSTRAK Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa asing cukup menantang. Sehingga membutuhkan semangat dan motivasi yang kuat karena berbicara Bahasa inggris merupakan keahlian yang sulit. Ada beberapa komponen dalam membuat kemampuan Bahasa Inggris meningkat. Untuk mengajarkan berbicara Bahasa Inggris kepada siswa membutuhkan metode yang tepat yang efektif dan sesuai kebutuhan siswa. Spying Method adalah salah satu solusi untuk berbicara Bahasa Inggris. Spying Method dapat membuat pembelajaran speaking menjadi menyenangkan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apakah efektif atau tidak dalam penggunaan Spying Method pada keahlian berbicara Bahasa Inggris. Kuantitatif eksperimental telah dipakai. Dan hasilnya terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada penggunaan Spying Method dalam Keahlian Berbicara Bahasa Inggris siswa.

Abstract

In the field of second language teaching, vocabulary has been one of the most neglected areas in the classroom. That is why there are many students who lacks of vocabulary will find difficulties in language learning process. They will find difficulties in communication. Therefore vocabulary has an important role in communication process both spoken and written. Vocabulary is needed to support a success communication. This study was meant to find out how to improve vocabulary by using onomatopoeic expression in comic and to describe some challenges in using comic as a media of teaching and learning process. This study used a qualitative descriptive analysis. The participants were taken from the students in private classes. The research data is collected by using test (test after the first treatment and test after the second treatment) and by observation for collecting data on the students’ motivation in improving vocabulary mastery using onomatopoeic expression. The data were analyzed by using the descriptive analysis. The result showed that in the first cycle, the students’ average was 65.8, then, on the second treatment, the students’ average increase to be 75.9. It can conclude that teaching vocabulary by using onomatopoeic expression in comic can be used as media to improve students’ vocabulary ability.

Abstract

This research analyzed the use of “Guessing” games as a technique in teaching English speaking for young learners for Elementary students. The objectives of the study were to describe how the guessing game was applied in teaching speaking. In this study, the writer used Action Research and qualitative method with simple counting in presenting the data. To gather the data, the writer applied a classroom observation which was supported by questionnaires, tests, and field notes. The observation was conducted to the teaching of the fifth grade students of Fajar Siddiq, Palembang City. The writer concluded that there were some advantages of using the game of Guessing games such as enlarging knowledge, enriching vocabulary, receiving and sending message, and also problem solving. It is a simple interesting game and can motivate the students’ speaking habit to communicate in English with each other. The disadvantage was it could waste the time if the teacher could not use the time effectively and efficiently. Finally, the writer suggested that the teacher should apply interesting techniques or methods in her/his teaching. He/she also can apply the game of Guessing Game as a technique in teaching speaking or oral test for Elementary students.

Abstract

Reading is one way to enable students and teachers to broaden their horizons in thinking and behaving. The more you read, the better you will be in all your actions in daily life. In this case, the writer gives information for some methods of teaching reading comprehension for English Second Languagu (ESL). Therefore, the teachers can use the methods when they teach about reading. Hopefully, these methods will not only make the studensts but also Eglish teachers enthusiastic in learning reading comprehension. Besides, this ESL focus to junior high school students. The teachers of English teach reading by giving some methods in learning process. Moreover, the writer gave questionnaire for the students to know about the condition in their class. The result of questionnaire showed that 52.9 % students like to study and 52.9% like to read English. Therefore, in this case, the teacher of English should give high motivation and introduce the method of learning English, especially Readiing comprehension achievement. In order, the students will love to read in English more.

Abstract

This paper reviews about benefit and challenges of teacher professional development in Indonesia. It also examines the types of Teacher Professional Program (known as Program Profesi Guru/PPG) which have been implemented by the government since the year of 2013.The teachers’ professional program both for in-service teachers and Pre- service teachers propose to enhance teacher professional development especially to improve their knowledge and competencies. For these reasons, the ultimate goal is by having professional teacher; it will lead to the students’ better achievement. Beside the benefits, this program also proposes many challenges. Lack of participants’ proficiency in using ICT, Instructors’ familiarity with the software, quality of the materials provided and availability of facilities are the challenges which are usually faced by in- service teachers. While for Pre service teachers, recruitment process is considered to be the main challenge since the policy government has evolved overtime, this condition causes many possibilities to use different regulation in the process of the recruitment over the year.

Abstract

Abstract Film discussions cannot be separated from their functions as entertainment and educational media. Subsequently, film is influential for be concentrated as an examination object. Semiotics is one common method for film interpretation. This study centers around how semiotic hypothesis is applied or used to notice and decipher signs in films and its utilization to help individuals like understudies, addresses, and so forth, particularly the people who expect to develop their insight in humanities films, By gathering reference sources pertinent to movies and semiotics from diaries and books as information, the consequences of this writing concentrate on made sense of that movies can be deciphered by applying Barthes‟ semiotic hypothesis such that components in movies like scenes, plots, exchanges, characters, and so on were seen to show signifiers, meant and sign. The consequences of conversation likewise proposed that the semiotic methodology by and large considers or treats all peculiarities as signs that can address or make an importance through figuring out legends and undertones.

Abstract

Learning English is lifelong process and it needs the perfect strategies or techniques to keep learning it the whole life. One of the best ways is to introduce them to any kinds of literature. This strategy should be introduced as young as possible because it will become their habitual which will help them to understand English fully. It means that English as a language for communication contains many aspects that should be introduced, like culture, habits, social, etc. Teaching English through literature will build a bridge between English and its soul which will facilitate the students to learn and create a closer interaction with the target language and its complex soul.. Abstract

The objective of this study is to identify the main types of learning styles of EFL students in SDN 5 Palembang. The unit of analysis of this study is EFL SDN 5 Palembang students studying at five levels. A qualitative approach was used to conduct this study: data was collected through observation and interview questionnaires. The study found that the learning styles of EFL students in English language instruction were kinesthetic, visual, auditory, and group-based. The results also showed that the most dominant learning style was kinesthetic. In other words, EFL students in SDN 5 Palembang preferred to learn English through a kinesthetic learning style.

Abstract

The research results show that the use of whispering games can improve the English listening skills of fifth grade students at SDN 5 Palembang.Listening skill possessed by each student were different because it was determined by the habit of practicing the listening skill that they do. It means the listening skill was found by how often someone to practice as a recipient of a message and pass that message to others. In whispering game, the students must really pay attention to the message that convey by their friends, which was consisted of some words. Therefore, the students mut focus to word by word that convey by their friends. Which one was conjunction, noun, or verb. Most of the students said that they listen clearer when it was whispered than spoken in loud voice. Because when in whisper, the students will concentrate and focus to what their friends said. Whispering game also can sharp the students’ listening skill because when in a whisper, they will pay attention to the accuracy of the message that convey by their friends. While the researcher asked about how many words that they listened clearly, most students stated that the words are so clear enough but they do not know how to write. It means that they should more careful to listen.
