Abstract

Learning English as a foreign Language is challenging. It needs motivation and strong effort. The most difficult skill in English is Speaking. There are some components for making speaking improved. Those components must be covered and faced by all speakers. In order to teach Speaking skill to students, the teachers can use appropriate method which is effective and right for students’ need. Story completion can be the sollution to make students easy to speak and get ideas. Story Completion has been applied and the result showed that it was effective and helped students to write. Therefore, many methods can be applied to make students fun and happy in speaking. We can choose method which is effective and easily to be used. The purpsoe of this study is to know whether the story completion is effective or no to increase students’ ability in speaking skill. .Quantitative method with quasi experimental were used. The result of this study showed that there was siginificant improvement the use of story completion in speaking skill Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa asing cukup menantang. Sehingga membutuhkan semangat dan motivasi yang kuat karena berbicara Bahasa inggris merupakan keahlian yang sulit. Ada beberapa komponen dalam membuat kemampuan Bahasa Inggris meningkat. Untuk mengajarkan berbicara Bahasa Inggris kepada siswa membutuhkan metode yang tepat yang efektif dan sesuai kebutuhan siswa. Story completion adalah salah satu solusi untuk berbicara Bahasa Inggris . Story completion dapat membuat pembelajaran speaking menjadi menyenangkan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apakah efektif atau tidak dalam penggunaan story completion pada keahlian berbicara Bahasa Inggris. Kuantitatif eksperimental telah dipakai. Dan hasilnya terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada penggunaan Story completion dalam Keahlian Berbicara Bahasa Inggris siswa.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Some researchers stated that many problems and difficulties faced by students in learning a foreign languages likes teacher centered, boring teaching and learning material used in the classroom, low motivation of learning. The purpose of this article is to describe the effectiveness of short stories in reading skill. Learning English through short stories can make students to be creative and affect learners’ attentions effectively not only in reading skill but also another skills such as listening, speaking and writing. Using short stories is recommended in learning a foreign language because teachers can teach literary works, cultural, and higher –order thinking and many aspects of language. ABSTRAK Beberapa peneliti mengatakan bahwa banyak permasalahan dan kesulitan yang dihadapi oleh siswa dalam belajar bahasa asing seperti guru yang menjadi pusat belajar, materi yang di ajarkan membosankan, kurangnya motivasi dalam belajar. Tujuan dari artikel ini adalah menjelaskan efektivitas cerita pendek dalam kemampuan membaca. Belajar bahasa Inggris melalui cerita pendek bisa membuat siswa menjadi kreatif dan memberikan pengaruh perhatian yang efektif tidak hanya dalam kemmapuan membaca tetapi juga kemampuan yang lain seperti mendengar, berbicara dan menulis. Menggunakan cerita pendek di rekomendasikan dalam belajar bahasa asing karena guru bisa mengajar literasi, budaya, dan berpikir tinggi dan banyak aspek bahasa lainnya.

Abstract

Listening English is a challenging for the teachers of English. The teachers have to study hard, focus to listen, think and describe what the speakers talk about, practice listen and listen again, learn how to improve their listening skill, and transfer their knowledge for the students. In this case, the writer gives information for some strategies in teaching listening for EYL (English Young Learners). In addition, the teacher can use the strategies to teach the students. These strategies can inspire teachers to teach and students to learn. They actually can improve their listening skill if they want to study, practice more and more in their daily life. Besides, EYL means to focus in Elementary school students. The teachers of English teach listening for EYL by giving some strategies in learning process. If the EYL hard to listen, the teacher have to motivate, give spirit to students, and never give up to learn. It is because listening skill is very important not only for today but also forever in life. Hopefully, all of these strategies will be useful for EYL, teachers of English, another researchers, and others. Mendengarkan Bahasa Inggris merupakan sebuah tantangan bagi para guru Bahasa Inggris. Guru harus belajar giat, fokus mendengarkan, memikirkan dan mendeskripsikan apa yang dibicarakan pembicara, berlatih mendengarkan dan mendengarkan lagi, belajar bagaimana meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkan, dan mentransfer pengetahuannya kepada siswa. Dalam hal ini, Penlulis memberikan informasi tentang beberapa strategi dalam pengajaran mendengarkan untuk EYL (English Young Learners). Selain itu, guru dapat menggunakan strategi untuk mengajar siswa. Strategi-strategi ini dapat menginspirasi guru untuk mengajar dan siswa untuk belajar. Mereka sebenarnya dapat meningkatkan keterampilan mendengarkannya jika mereka mau belajar, berlatih lebih banyak, dan lebih banyak lagi dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Selain itu, EYL artinya fokus pada siswa Sekolah Dasar. Guru bahasa Inggris mengajarkan mendengarkan EYL dengan memberikan strategi dalam proses pembelajaran. Jika EYL sulit untuk mendengarkan, guru harus memotivasi, memberi semangat kepada siswa, dan pantang menyerah untuk belajar. Hal ini karena keterampilan mendengarkan sangat penting tidak hanya untuk saat ini tetapi juga selamanya dalam kehidupan. Semoga semua strategi ini bermanfaat bagi EYL, guru bahasa Inggris, peneliti lain, dan lain-lain.

Abstract

Tests can give contributions if it is use naturally. It is needed to do a test to know students’ ability. Tests are also used to measure ability in language. Language testing is a field of study under the umbrella of applied linguistics. The purpose of testing is to collect objective information that may be used in conjunction with subjective information to make better. Language test developers and teachers should think of new types of intensive tests to measure examinees’ real language competence and performance to make the tests more reliable. Tes dapat memberikan kontribusi jika digunakan secara alami. Perlu dilakukan tes untuk mengetahui kemampuan siswa. Tes juga digunakan untuk mengukur kemampuan berbahasa. Pengujian bahasa adalah bidang studi di bawah payung linguistik terapan. Tujuan pengujian adalah untuk mengumpulkan informasi obyektif yang dapat digunakan bersama dengan informasi subyektif untuk menjadikannya lebih baik. Pengembang tes bahasa dan guru harus memikirkan jenis tes intensif baru untuk mengukur kompetensi dan kinerja bahasa peserta ujian yang sebenarnya agar tes tersebut lebih dapat diandalkan.

Abstract

Learning English vocabulary is essential for the improvement of students' language ability. Students should learn as much vocabulary as possible to establish good communication with other students. This study aims to investigate teacher’s strategy in improving student vocabulary mastery at MTs Mardhatillah Palembang as one of learning strategies outside of class activities. This study uses descriptive qualitative research where the researcher implements interview and observation as data collection techniques. The researcher used observation to understand the school environment where students learn English. To find out the student vocabulary mastery as learning strategies which is used by the teacher, the researcher used semi-structured interviews with the teachers and students as participants. The results showed that students most often used meta-cognitive strategies to improve their English vocabulary.

Abstract

In the learning process, teachers must be able to adapt to the goals, so appropriate supporting factors are needed to achieve these goals, one of which is the use of appropriate teaching media. Songs can be used as an intermediary in learning. Songs have a lot of content in them, for example regarding the content of song lyrics which can be included as learning material. Songs have a high level when it comes to language. The focus of this thesis research is 1) How to plan English learning using nurery rhymes as media? 2) How is English learning carried out using nursery rhymes as media? To identify these problems, this research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. This research uses a case study type. Determining informants using purposive sampling. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis in this research goes through stages, namely: data collection, data condensation, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Validity of data using triangulation of sources and techniques.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The research is about English benefit for food and beverage service employees at OPI Indah Hotel Palembang. English is an international language, as an employee of food and beverage service, we need to know English to get benefit in servicing. The point of the research is English benefit for food and beverage service employees at OPI Indah Hotel Palembang. The purpose of this research is to know the benefit of English for food and beverage service employees at OPI Indah Hotel Palembang. The researchers used a descriptive qualitative method because there in the form of words written or spoken from the sources and observed behavior and is not intended to test hypotheses or testing the relationship among variables. In conclusion, success of hotel operations is depend on staff quality. Finally the researchers found the result and conclusion that gave a very much benefit for the writers themselves and the readers. OPI Indah Hotel Palembang should be always upgrading English skill for food and beverage service employees. Penelitian ini tentang manfaat bahasa Inggris bagi karyawan layanan makanan dan minuman di OPI Indah Hotel Palembang. Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa internasional, sebagai pegawai food and baverage service kita perlu mengetahui bahasa inggris untuk mendapatkan keuntungan dalam pelayanan. Inti dari penelitian ini adalah manfaat Bahasa Inggris bagi karyawan food and baverage service di OPI Indah Hotel Palembang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui manfaat bahasa Inggris bagi karyawan food and baverage service di OPI Indah Hotel Palembang. Penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif karena berupa kata-kata tertulis atau lisan dari sumber dan perilaku yang diamati dan tidak dimaksudkan untuk menguji hipotesis atau menguji hubungan antar variabel. Kesimpulannya, keberhasilan operasional hotel bergantung pada kualitas staf. Akhirnya penulis menemukan hasil dan kesimpulan yang memberikan manfaat yang sangat besar bagi penulis sendiri dan pembaca. OPI Indah Hotel Palembang hendaknya selalu meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris bagi karyawan dalam layanan makanan dan minuman.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This article was aimed to find out the significance average score and motivation between Mind-Mapping and Conventional Technique. Due the interpretation of this study, it found that: (1) there was a significant difference in writing achievement between the student who taught by using Mind-Mapping and those are taught using conventional technique since it was found that the result was 0.00, (2) there was significant difference in writing achievement between the students who have high motivation by using Mind-Mapping and conventional teaching since the result was 0.005, (3) there was significant difference in writing achievement between the students who have low motivation by using Mind-Mapping and conventional teaching technique since the result was 0.002, (4) there was significant difference in writing achievement between the students who have low and high motivation by using Mind-Mapping since the significant was lower 0.02, and (5) there was an interaction effect of technique used and student’s motivation in improving writing achievement since the result of interaction effect was lower 0.006. Based on the result, the writer concluded that the result of this research was lower than the level of significant level (0,05), and Mind-Mapping and motivation gave the significant influence for student’s narrative writing achievement. ABSTRAK Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui signifikansi skor rata-rata dan motivasi antara Mind-Mapping dan Teknik Konvensional. Berdasarkan interpretasi penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa: (1) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam prestasi menulis antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan Mind-Mapping dan mereka yang diajar menggunakan teknik konvensional karena ditemukan bahwa hasilnya adalah 0,00, ( 2) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam prestasi menulis antara siswa yang memiliki motivasi tinggi dengan menggunakan Mind-Mapping dan pengajaran konvensional karena hasilnya adalah 0,005, (3) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam prestasi menulis antara siswa yang memiliki motivasi rendah dengan menggunakan Mind -Pemetaan dan teknik pengajaran konvensional karena hasilnya adalah 0,002, (4) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam prestasi menulis antara siswa yang memiliki motivasi rendah dan tinggi dengan menggunakan Mind-Mapping karena signifikansinya lebih rendah 0,02, dan (5) terdapat peningkatan efek interaksi teknik yang digunakan dan motivasi siswa dalam meningkatkan prestasi menulis karena hasil efek interaksi lebih rendah 0,006. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa hasil penelitian ini lebih rendah dari tingkat signifikansi (0,05), dan Mind-Mapping dan motivasi memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap prestasi menulis narasi siswa.

Abstract

Learning English in elementary schools often still experiences various obstacles. For this reason, the author conducted this research to find out students' learning difficulties as well as solutions that can be taken in learning English at the elementary school level with the ikurikulum merdeka as the curriculum. The method used in this research is a literature review approach in the form of a description of theories and findings obtained from various sources which are used as study material. This student's learning difficulties are characterized by not achieving the learning objectives that have been set. The causes of these difficulties include internal and external factors. Then, from the analysis carried out, researchers obtained solutions that could be taken to overcome these problems. Considering the importance of knowledge of English as an international language in the modern technological era like today.
