Abstract

Media is needed by teachers in supporting teaching in education. Media is a tool used by teachers in teaching, apart from using books or lecture methods, teachers are also expected to have different learning media and adapt the material and conditions to their respective students. Today, technological developments are increasingly rapid and advanced; everyone is expected to understand technology as a support for all existing activities, even in the realm of education. Teachers and students can take advantage of technology-based learning media, one of which is the canva application. Canva is an online-based application that provides attractive designs in the form of templates, features, and the categories provided in it. With various and attractive designs, it makes the learning process not boring. The canva application is used by researchers to assist students in attracting students' interest in learning to write. This research was conducted to find out whether there was a significant effect of using canva on students' ability to write procedural texts. The research procedure includes 5 stages, namely: 1) Pre-test. 2) Introducing students to canva application, its benefits, and procedures for its use, 3) Conducting procedure text learning through canva application, 4) Practicing writing Procedure Text, and 5) Conducting a Post-test. Based on the research, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of using canva on students' ability to write procedural texts.

Abstract

This research aimed to introduce the students through differentiate how to use Anagrams and how to use Un-jumble in vocabulary. This research used a descriptive method. The total sample was 17 students in Junior High School Number 18 Palembang in academic year 2021/2022, South Sumatera. The writer gave 10 questions of questionnaire to know about the results of their activities in learning process, especially, in writing English. The results showed that there were 47.05% students often like English, 47.05% students sometimes like English, and 5.8% students seldom like English. Therefore, this two items were very useful for them to increase knowledge and develop the way or concept to research. Besides at least, the students can use Anagrams and Un-jumble not only for English lesson, but also for another subjects

Abstract

Saat ini, bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa internasional, dan kita harus mampu berbicara dan menulis bahasa Inggris secara efektif karena bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa global. Namun, karena tidak terbiasa berbicara dan memahami bahasa Inggris, siswa masih merasa kesulitan untuk berbicara bahasa Inggris secara aktif dan benar saat mempelajarinya. Siswa menjadi kurang termotivasi untuk belajar bahasa Inggris sebagai akibatnya. Semua peralatan mulai beralih menggunakan sistem komputerisasi seiring dengan berkembangnya teknologi komputer yang semakin maju. Jadi jangan heran jika sistem komputerisasi secara bertahap masuk ke dalam sistem pendidikan.

Abstract

Abstract : In our daily lives, in homes, in school and on the streets, to read is necessary for livelihood and survival. It means that, we learn something by reading or we can say that reading is the central to the learning process to know something. Reading is a key towards civilizations progress. Since the invention of alphabet as a means of written communications, reading ability has becomes essential for character building and national development. Nowadays, many children are lazy to read. They interested in watching TV, listening music, playing games and hanging out with their friends. There are some factors that caused the student reading ability poor. The factors are classified into two internal and external factors. The internal factors come from studentt themselves such as motivation, and knowledge. The external factor come from teacher, school facilities parents and the condition that influences the student in learning English. A teacher can use several techniques for their teaching in reading comprehension. The techniques are skimming and scanning. Keywords : Skimming, Scanning and Reading Comprehension

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the students’ motivation through differentiate how to use Top-Down and how to use Bottom-Up in listening through songs. This research used a descriptive method. The total sample was 26 students in Senior High School Gajah Mada 3 Palembang in academic year 2022/2023, South Sumatera. The writer gave 10 questions of questionnaire to know about the results of their motivation in learning English, especially, in listening skill. The results showed that 3.8% always like English language, 15.38% usually like English language, 7.69% often like English language, 46.1% sometimes like English language, 26.9% seldom like English language. In this case, this top-down and bottom-up were very useful for them to imrove their motivation in learning listening skill through song. Besides, the students can use top-down and bottom-up not only for English lesson, but also for another skill of English language.

Abstract

The background of this research was the lack of students' reading skills, especially in the method they use, so that many students were only able to read with one reading style for all discourses. The result of these conditions that students' reading ability and interest in reading are still low. This study aims to determine the level of effectiveness of the experience-oriented GIST strategy in learning reading comprehension. This research used a quantitative method in the form of an experimental method with a pretest-posttest research design. The theory underlying this research was the GIST strategy. Experience-oriented learning and reading comprehension. The data from this study were in the form of test results for students in the experimental class and control class before and after being given treatment in the form of objective text with 30 questions for the pretest and 30 questions for the post test. Based on the research data collected, the results of this study indicate that using the GIST strategy was effective in teaching reading comprehension

Abstract

The Purpose of the study is to determine the use of Illustrated text to improve students’ motivation in Reading Skill at SMA Gajah Mada Palembang. Quasi experimental was used. An illustrated text has been given to the students at SMA Gajah Mada Palembang. There were some questions related to the text. The result showed that there was good result for students who taught by Illustrated text. Based on the research, Illustrated text can be used to improve students’ motivation in Reading skill. This method can be sollution to help students’ to learn and it is reccommended for the next researchers and teachers who has interest to conduct reading skill as their research

Abstract

English is the target language in which students must be proficient in this global era, it makes even the more difficult. Consequently, to overcome these challenges, teachers need to find an effective way or strategy to use in teaching and learning process. In line with this, psycholinguistics as a study of the psychology of language is realized in language teaching. It helps to study the psychological factors that are possibly involved in languages learning. Psycholinguistics focuses on the application of the actual language and communication. It is necessary to make a decision in applying various methods that allow students to easily understand a language. This study was meant to find out how psycholinguistics approaching which will help the teacher in facing some challenges of English language teaching. This study used a qualitative descriptive analysis. The participants were taken from some teachers. The research data is collected by using interview and observation. The result showed that psycholinguistics approach mainly helps teachers to consider the use of appropriate method to teach in ELT.
