Abstract

Jambi is one of the provinces in Indonesia that is prone to fire disasters, especially during the dry season, such as forest fires or house fires, causing significant losses for the people affected by the disaster. The problems that arise in the community are not knowing how to help fire victims so that they can be saved and not disabled by using the Pre-Hospital Disaster Triage model, from a survey conducted through interviews with 10 people about initial disaster management in their environment if a fire occurs, not knowing how to provide assistance to victims of the disaster and confused about what to do to save the lives of victims. Based on this phenomenon, it is necessary to carry out education and simulation of community preparedness with the pre-hospital triage model.

Abstract

The socialization and training of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) production were carried out by the community service team together with the women’s group (PKK) in Parit Banjar Village. This activity aimed to improve knowledge, skills, and the utilization of local coconut resources into products of economic value. The team delivered material on the benefits of VCO, its production process, and potential business opportunities. Participants took part in hands-on practice using a simple fermentation method with fresh coconuts as the raw material. During the practice, participants learned the stages of grating, squeezing coconut milk, fermenting, and separating pure oil. The results showed that participants were actively engaged in discussions. This activity provided an understanding that VCO production does not require complicated technology and can be carried out independently at home. Therefore, the socialization and practice of VCO production enhanced the skills of PKK members while also creating opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurship based on local resources.

Abstract

Background: The elderly are an age group vulnerable to various health problems, both physical and mental. Mental health disorders can have an impact on the elderly, including reducing their ability to perform daily activities, increasing the risk of degenerative diseases, reducing independence, and thus reducing their quality of life. The importance of maintaining the mental and physical health of the elderly is a primary concern in improving their quality of life. Efforts that can be made include health education, regular physical activity, and adequate social support. Objective: This community service activity aims to increase awareness and skills in managing stress and maintaining physical health through providing education, training, and support to the elderly in maintaining mental and physical health so that the elderly can create a more productive and quality life. The material provided is counseling/education on stress management with breathing relaxation exercises (LAHARGO) to reduce anxiety/depression and to improve emotional well-being. Methods: The methods used include an educational approach (counseling), elderly exercise, and psychosocial therapy, as well as monitoring and evaluation of the program's impact on elderly health. The community service targets all 13 elderly people in Karmeo Village. Results: Evaluation results from questionnaires and interviews indicated that most seniors experienced positive benefits from the program, such as improved sleep quality, reduced stress, increased participation in social activities, and increased relaxation through LAHARGO breathing exercises. Conclusion: The outreach and education regarding the importance of maintaining mental and physical health successfully increased seniors' awareness of the importance of mental and physical balance in daily life. This community service activity successfully achieved its primary objective of increasing seniors' awareness and skills in maintaining mental and physical health. Keywords:. Elderly. Abstract

Background: One important aspect of PHBS is handwashing with soap, which has been proven to be an effective way to prevent various infectious diseases. In the healthcare sector, handwashing with soap is very crucial, especially in preventing nosocomial infections, namely infections that occur in hospitals due to the transmission of bacteria and viruses from the non-sterile hospital environment. Medical personnel and patients' families play a major role in preventing these infections. However, many patients' families still do not pay attention to hand hygiene when visiting patient treatment rooms. Objective: This community service activity aims to increase the understanding of patient families regarding the importance of hand hygiene both before and after carrying out activities while the patient and family are in the treatment room at the hospital. Objective: This community service activity aims to increase the understanding of patient families regarding the importance of hand hygiene both before and after carrying out activities while the patient and family are in the treatment room at the hospital. Method: Education was carried out through lectures and direct demonstrations in the Marwa Inpatient Room, RSI Arafah Jambi with the participation of 15 people, using leaflets and flipcharts. Results: The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the six steps of handwashing according to WHO standards and an increase in the understanding of patient families regarding risk factors for falls in patients. Before the education, only 6 out of 15 participants (17.14%) understood the material. After the education, all participants (100%) showed a good understanding. Thus, there was an increase in understanding of 82.86%. Participants also actively discussed and showed high enthusiasm in the activity. With this education, it is hoped that hand hygiene practices using 6 steps can be applied consistently in daily life, so that clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) by washing hands through 6 steps can be continuously implemented. Abstract

Elderly as vulnerable groups value their independence, and falls can limit their ability to do activity significantly. More than one third of people age 65 and older falls every year and that condition can be repeated. Falls in the elderly are a common health problem experienced by the elderly, a vulnerable group. This is related to changes in the neuromuscular system, which can lead to decreased muscle strength and balance disorders. This community service program aims to provide an understanding of the risk of falls in the elderly and to improve their skills in preventing falls through balance training. Before the educational activity began, a fall risk screening was conducted using the TUGT instrument and the results showed that the majority of elderly people were in the low fall risk category with an average TUGT value of 9.4 seconds (<10 seconds). The activity continued with education on fall risks and prevention conducted through a lecture method equipped with booklet media. Meanwhile, balance exercises were taught using a demonstration method. This activity involved 23 elderly people. Before the education was given, the average pretest score obtained from the 23 elderly people was 71.9%, while after being given the education there was an increase in the posttest score to 94%. The results of observations made during the balance training were that 5 elderly people (21.7%) experienced difficulty in performing crosswalk movements and walking on heels and toes such as instability and feeling unsteady. Although the results of the fall risk screening tended to be low, balance exercises need to be carried out routinely by the elderly so that fall prevention can be carried out early.
