Abstract

This study applies Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to explore the complex interplay of economic struggles, inheritance dynamics, and societal expectations within familial relationships as depicted in the movie ‘How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.’ Through a qualitative examination of characters’ dialogues and actions, the analysis reveals how economic pressures profoundly impact family dynamics, often leading to conflicts driven by financial necessity over traditional values of filial piety. The discourse on inheritance further illuminates entrenched gender biases, highlighting the preference for male heirs in the distribution of familial wealth and property. Fairclough's framework facilitates a nuanced understanding of power dynamics embedded in these discourses, emphasizing their role in shaping identities and relationships within the family unit. This research contributes insights into the broader implications for familial cohesion and societal norms, underscoring the challenges posed by economic inequalities and the evolving nature of familial roles in contemporary contexts.

Abstract

This study examines two cultural narratives on the Pakistan- India conflict and the Claim of Kashmir to achieve independence, that is unwarranted since the two nation has been separated in 1947 over the enchanting territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The conflict, centered around territorial disputes, religious disputes, and differences in ideologies, has resulted in widespread human suffering and regional instability, compounded by ethnic and religious heterogeneity, insurgency, and foreign interference. The toll of the Kashmir conflict is not just interstate tensions between the nuclear-armed India and Pakistan but also intrastate violence and widespread human rights abuses. These works bring to light the need for recognition of past wrongs, acceptance of religious diversity and comprehensive restoration and reconciliation process which constitutes the necessity of continuing the dialogue and seeking support on the international level for achieving the lasting and mutually acceptable solution and nonviolence protection of the rights and dignity of the people of Kashmir.

Abstract

This study analyzes President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) use of dialect in his anti-corruption speeches, focusing on its effectiveness in shaping public perception and mobilizing support. Utilizing Framing Theory, the research examines how Jokowi’s linguistic choices frame the anti-corruption narrative. The qualitative analysis of Jokowi’s World Anti-Corruption Day speech reveals that his use of local dialect and informal language fosters relatability and trust, bridging the gap between the government and the people. Findings indicate that Jokowi’s strategic framing of corruption as a collective moral responsibility and a common enemy mobilizes public support and reinforces a national identity centered on integrity and transparency. This approach effectively highlights both achievements and ongoing challenges in the fight against corruption, maintaining public engagement and trust. The study underscores the importance of strategic communication in political leadership and offers insights for enhancing anti-corruption campaigns in Indonesia.

Abstract

The focus of this study is to figure out how ready English teachers are in West Popayato Subdistrict junior high schools to adopt the newly established curriculum. The method of data collection employed was interviews, with two English teachers from SMP Negeri 2 West Popayato and SMP Negeri 3 West Popayato Satap helping as participants. The interactive analysis phases of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing from Miles & Huberman were applied in data analysis methodologies. The findings demonstrated that English teachers were not at the point where they were ready to adopt the accelerated curriculum in their schools. The instructors brought up three points. Firstly, parents' involvement is still below the level of collaborating in tandem with teachers as resource persons. Second, to allow students to learn based on their accomplishments, teachers do not separate their classes into at least two groups that are subsequently taught by the same teacher. Third, teachers continue to employ the Ministry of Education and Culture's flow of learning objectives. Because teachers are still getting used to the accelerated curriculum, these three points are still in the early stages of implementation. Thus, according to the study's findings and the stages of the accelerated curriculum's implementation table provided by the Ministry of Education and Culture, English teachers are not yet at the point where they are prepared to implement it.

Abstract

J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series has captivated millions of readers worldwide, particularly through the multifaceted character of Harry Potter himself. This research employs critical discourse analysis to examine how Rowling utilizes language and narrative techniques to depict and develop Harry's character across the seven-book series. Drawing on theoretical frameworks from narrative theory and discourse analysis, the study explores Harry's evolution from a vulnerable orphan to a courageous leader, analyzing both micro-level linguistic features and macro-level narrative structures. By examining themes of identity, morality, and heroism as portrayed through Harry's interactions and internal monologues, this research illuminates the nuanced strategies through which Rowling shapes Harry Potter's persona and resonates with young adult audiences. This analysis contributes to literary studies by elucidating the intricate relationship between language, character development, and reader engagement in young adult literature.

Abstract

The effect of monetary policy on the economic growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) can be defined as the impact that policies implemented by the central bank, particularly those relating to interest rates and money supply, have on the operating conditions and growth capabilities of MSMEs. Monetary policy plays a role in determining borrowing costs and inflation rates, which directly affect the capacity of MSMEs to access funds, make investments, and manage their business costs and product selling prices. The study conducted in this research uses the literature research method. The results show that the provision of low interest rates and controlled inflation create favourable conditions that facilitate MSMEs to expand their businesses and make investments. Price stability resulting from sound monetary policy maintains or increases consumer purchasing power, benefiting the sales and service sectors of MSMEs. However, variable currency exchange rates and limited access to credit sources pose challenges that limit the full impact of monetary policy on MSMEs, especially in the case of unexpected policy changes that could destabilise MSME operations.
