Abstract

The implementation of the death penalty for corruptors in Indonesia is criticized for its ineffectiveness in deterring corruption and its inconsistency with the country’s commitment to upholding human rights. While some nations enforce the death penalty for corruption with minimal success, others achieve better results through preventive measures that do not involve capital punishment. The death penalty is seen as contradicting Indonesia's legal framework and international human rights obligations, as it is equated to state-sponsored premeditated murder. As an alternative, this paper proposes impoverishing corruptors by recovering misappropriated state assets and imposing restrictions on their civil and political rights, thereby preventing recidivism and reducing future harm to the state. This approach would align with human rights principles while fostering a more effective anti-corruption strategy.

Abstract

This study discussed the role of law as an instrument for realizing social justice in Indonesia through the perspective of philosophy of science. Law was not only understood as a set of formal norms but also as a means of social transformation grounded in ontological, epistemological, and axiological foundations. Using a normative juridical research method and a qualitative approach based on literature review, this research analyzed the contributions of various legal theories and theories of justice including Satjipto Rahardjo’s responsive law, John Rawls’ theory of distributive justice, H.L.A. Hart’s legal positivism, Amartya Sen’s development paradigm, and Alasdair MacIntyre’s ethics of justice in shaping a legal framework that was inclusive and responsive to complex social realities. The findings showed that law in Indonesia had the potential to become a catalyst for social change through redistributive policies, protection of vulnerable groups, and strengthening of community solidarity. The perspective of philosophy of science deepened the understanding of the relationship between law and social justice, particularly in explaining the nature of law as an adaptive institution (ontology), the process of legal knowledge formation (epistemology), and the substantive values of justice underpinning legal practice (axiology).

Abstract

This article explored the legal challenges surrounding the import and sale of second-hand clothing in Indonesia, focusing on the intersection between sustainability goals and regulatory frameworks. The research aimed to analyze the tension between the environmental benefits of reuse practices and the strict prohibition stipulated in Indonesian trade regulations, particularly Article 47 paragraph (1) of Regulation of the Minister of Trade No. 40 of 2022. Employing normative juridical methods supported by statute and conceptual approaches, the study investigated both domestic and international legal norms, including WTO principles and sustainable development goals (SDGs). The findings revealed a legal paradox: while importing second-hand clothing supported circular economy practices and reduced textile waste, it was simultaneously deemed illegal under the prevailing laws, creating regulatory inconsistency. The article argued for a more balanced legal reform that aligned trade policy with sustainability imperatives, promoting legal certainty and environmental responsibility. This research contributed to the broader discourse on green lawmaking in developing countries and underscored the importance of harmonizing domestic regulations with global sustainability commitments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of financial leverage in predicting earnings per share (EPS) using a panel data approach. Leverage is measured using the Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) and Debt to Asset Ratio (DAR), while EPS is used as the main indicator of the company's profitability performance. The research sample consists of non-financial sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the period 2018–2023, selected using purposive sampling technique. The analysis method used is panel data regression with the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach, which was chosen based on the results of the Hausman test. The research results indicate that leverage has a negative and significant impact on EPS, which suggests that excessive use of debt can reduce earnings per share due to high interest expenses. These findings have important implications for company management in optimally managing capital structure and for investors in assessing the company's financial risk.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of working capital management on the profitability of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2019–2023. Working capital is proxied through three main components, namely accounts receivable turnover, inventory turnover, and accounts payable, while profitability is measured using Return on Assets (ROA) and Net Profit Margin (NPM). The research method used is a quantitative approach with a causal-comparative type of research and panel data regression analysis techniques to identify cause-and-effect relationships between variables. The research results indicate that the effectiveness of managing receivables and inventory significantly positively affects the company's profitability, while the use of trade credit as short-term financing also contributes positively if managed proportionally. This research emphasizes the importance of integrated working capital management strategies to enhance operational efficiency and the competitiveness of companies in the manufacturing sector. The implications of these findings provide practical guidance for financial managers in designing optimal working capital policies to achieve sustainable profitability.

Abstract

Language proficiency is a critical skill, and understanding the dynamics of language exposure is fundamental to its acquisition. This research applied quantitative descriptive research aims to describe language exposure among 2021 English Department students at the English Language Education Study Program (ELESP), Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. The study is guided by Magno's exposure framework, encompassing home, friends, school, and media. The background of the study highlights the importance of language exposure in language acquisition, with a specific focus on the four exposure types within the context of ELESP. The objectives centre on providing information about the language exposure experiences of the 2021 cohort, guided by these four exposure types. The methodology employs a quantitative descriptive approach, using surveys and written interviews. The practical significance of this study lies in its potential use as a resource for ELESP, offering insights into the effectiveness of their English language exposure across these four types. Theoretically, the research contributes to the academic discourse, serving as a learning resource for students of ELESP and offering a new perspective for future researchers in the same field.

Abstract

Computer education in higher education fosters sustainable innovation by equipping students with digital skills for problem-solving, creativity, and technological advancement. The research focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of curriculum redesign, incorporating emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science, and fostering practical skills essential for innovation. This study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for the study comprised students, lecturers, and administrative staff from higher education institutions in Anambra State. A total sample size of 130 participants was selected using stratified random sampling to ensure representation from all key groups. To gather data, a structured questionnaire was used. Inferential analysis, specifically ANOVA, was conducted to identify and evaluate differences in perceptions among various demographic groups. In the post hoc multiple comparisons, the Scheffe and Tamhane tests were applied to evaluate significant differences between age groups regarding their perceptions. Findings indicate that the redesign of computer education curricula significantly impacts students' innovation capacity, with varying effects across different age groups. The study highlights the need for curriculum integration of hands-on, project-based learning, industry collaborations, and reliable technological infrastructure to foster an innovation-driven educational environment. The results suggest that a more inclusive and forward-thinking approach to computer education can greatly enhance sustainable innovation in Anambra's higher education institutions. Based on these findings, recommendations for curriculum reforms and educational policies are presented to better align computer education with the evolving demands of the digital economy.

Abstract

This research examines the impact of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques, particularly sensory representation systems, on enhancing secretaries' presentation skills. In today's fast-paced business environments, secretaries are required to deliver impactful and clear presentations. By applying NLP’s visual, auditory, and kinesthetic (VAK) model, secretaries can tailor their presentations to match the sensory preferences of their audience. The study suggests that utilizing sensory representation systems not only improves audience engagement and retention but also aligns with cognitive and constructivist learning theories, making presentations more effective. This research uses qualitative, literature-based methods to explore the significance of NLP in professional development for secretaries.
