The postnatal period requires maternal readiness to independently care for newborns, particularly in umbilical cord care, since the freshly cut cord is an open wound highly susceptible to infection. The open cord care method is widely recommended for accelerating drying and cord separation compared to the closed method. However, maternal knowledge regarding this procedure among postnatal mothers in Indonesia remains relatively low, suggesting that structured postnatal counseling may help improve this condition. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of postnatal mothers and examine differences in the timing of umbilical cord separation based on the care method applied following counseling. A comparative cross-sectional design was employed using total sampling involving 30 postnatal mother respondents. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Mann-Whitney test, following a Shapiro-Wilk normality test indicating non-normally distributed data. The results showed that most respondents were aged 27–30 years, had completed senior high school, and predominantly applied the open cord care method (73.3%) compared to the closed method (26.7%). The Mann-Whitney test revealed a significant difference in cord separation age between the two groups (p=0.000), with the open-care group experiencing earlier separation than the closed-care group. These findings indicate that maternal sociodemographic characteristics contribute to understanding and practice of umbilical cord care, underscoring the importance of targeted postnatal counseling in supporting effective postpartum maternal self-care to reduce the risk of neonatal infection.

Breast Milk (BM) is an ideal food for infants that contains a number of nutrients proven to be beneficial for the growth, development, and health of babies. The composition of breast milk varies depending on the time of breast milk expression, the age of the baby, and the mother's nutrition. One effort carried out to facilitate breast milk expression is breast care. Breast care is an action of caring for the breasts either by the postpartum mother herself or assisted by others, carried out from the first or second day after giving birth by keeping the breasts clean and well-maintained. This breast care is beneficial in influencing the pituitary gland to release the hormones prolactin and oxytocin; prolactin affects the amount of breast milk production, and oxytocin affects milk ejection. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of breast care on the smoothness of breast milk production. This study uses a Quasi-Experimental method. Quasi-Experiment (Pseudo Experiment) with a Pre and Post Test With Non-Control Design. In this study, a paired sample t-test hypothesis test was used to determine the effectiveness of breast care on the smoothness of postpartum mothers' breast milk. Data were collected using questionnaires and observations, and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and Mann-Whitney test. Results: The Wilcoxon test showed that the percentage of postpartum mothers with smooth breastfeeding increased from 20% to 86.7%. The calculated Z value = -3.420 with p = 0.001 < 0.05. Meanwhile, the control group showed an increase in breastfeeding smoothness from 13.3% to 40%. The calculated Z value = -3.475, with p = 0.001, also indicating a significant difference. Based on the Mann-Whitney test results, the mean rank of the intervention group was 21.43, higher than that of the control group at 9.57. The p value = 0.000 < 0.05 and the calculated Z = -3.761 indicate that there is a statistically significant difference between the two groups.. The conclusion of this study is that there is the effectiveness of breast care on the smooth production of breast milk. With this research, it is expected that health workers are able to provide breast care to every postpartum mother at Sagerat Health Center.

Premature birth constitutes a critical global health challenge with severe consequences for neonatal survival, particularly due to thermoregulatory instability as its primary complication. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) on body temperature stabilization among premature infants at UPT Puskesmas Rawat Inap Lifofa. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental one group pre-test and post-test design was applied to 15 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Axillary body temperature was measured before and after the intervention, then analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. Results indicated that 73.3% of respondents demonstrated body temperature improvement following the intervention, yielding Z = -2.947 with a significance value of 0.003 (p < 0.05). KMC effectively stabilized neonatal body temperature through a physiologically adaptive skin-to-skin contact conduction mechanism. It is concluded that KMC significantly influences thermal stabilization of premature infants in primary healthcare settings, and is therefore recommended as a standard neonatal care protocol at community health centers.

Maternal mortality in Indonesia remains high, partly due to pregnant women's non-adherence to antenatal care (ANC), which may result in undetected high-risk pregnancies. Family support is suspected to be one of the factors influencing ANC adherence. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family support and ANC adherence among third-trimester pregnant women at Polindes Suka Maju as an effort to facilitate the early detection of high-risk pregnancies. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design involving 35 third-trimester pregnant women selected through total sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets and structured questionnaires and were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test and Spearman's rho correlation. The results showed that most respondents received good family support (94.3%) and were classified as adherent to ANC (88.6%). Statistical testing yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) with a correlation coefficient of 0.685, indicating a strong and positive relationship between family support and ANC adherence. These findings suggest that better family support is associated with higher ANC adherence among pregnant women. The implication is that health workers need to actively involve families in maternal health education programs to reduce ANC non-adherence, which may lead to undetected high-risk pregnancies.

Global exclusive breastfeeding rates remain below the WHO target of 50%, and at the primary healthcare level, inadequate maternal knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding persists as a critical barrier to its achievement. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of leaflet media in improving maternal knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months at UPT Puskesmas Sei Pinang. A quantitative quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design without a control group was employed, involving 40 mothers with infants aged 0-6 months recruited through total sampling. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire administered before and after the leaflet intervention and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test at a significance level of p < 0.05. At baseline, 55.0% of respondents had poor knowledge and 45.0% had adequate knowledge, with none reaching the good category. Following the intervention, 67.5% attained good knowledge and 32.5% remained in the adequate category, while poor knowledge was entirely eliminated. The Wilcoxon test yielded Z = -5.857 with p = 0.000 < 0.05, confirming a statistically significant improvement in knowledge scores. Leaflet media is proven effective in enhancing maternal knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding. Primary healthcare facilities are encouraged to incorporate leaflets into routine antenatal and postnatal services, and future studies employing randomized controlled trial designs alongside multimodal educational approaches are recommended to strengthen the evidence base.

The rising rate of sectio caesarea (SC) deliveries in Indonesia contributes significantly to postoperative pain, which impedes maternal recovery. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of early mobilization in reducing pain intensity among post-SC mothers. A pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design was employed involving 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) at 6 and 24 hours postoperatively and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. Results demonstrated a decline in mean NRS score from 7.13 to 3.47, with the proportion of severe pain decreasing from 66.7% to 6.7%. Statistical analysis yielded Z = −4.667 and p-value = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Early mobilization is proven effective in reducing postoperative pain intensity following SC and is recommended as a standardized non-pharmacological intervention within postpartum nursing care protocols.

Pain during the first stage of labor is a common physiological experience resulting from uterine contractions and progressive cervical dilation, which, if inadequately managed, may trigger psychological complications and impede labor progression. This study aimed to analyze the effect of breathing relaxation techniques on pain intensity among laboring women in the first stage of labor at RSUD dr. H. Andi Abdurahman Noor. A pre-experimental design with a one group pretest-posttest approach was employed, involving 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) instrument before and after the breathing relaxation intervention. Bivariate statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test yielded a Z value of -4.767 with a significance level of p=0.000 (p<0.05), confirming a statistically significant difference in pain intensity before and after the intervention. The proportion of respondents in the severe pain category declined markedly from 66.7% to 3.3% post-intervention. These findings confirm the effectiveness of deep breathing relaxation as a safe, affordable, and easily applicable non-pharmacological modality in labor pain management, warranting its integration into standard midwifery care protocols across healthcare facilities.

Cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related death among women in Indonesia, with early sexual debut serving as a significant risk factor. Early marriage, which remains prevalent in Indonesia, often precipitates sexual activity at a stage of biological immaturity, thereby increasing susceptibility to cellular changes in cervical tissue. Unfortunately, adolescent girls' understanding of the link between these factors remains low. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between adolescent girls' knowledge regarding early marriage and the risk of cervical cancer among female students at SMP Negeri 1 Sampanahan. A cross-sectional quantitative design was employed, involving 55 respondents selected via total sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable questionnaire and subsequently analyzed using the chi-square test and Spearman's rho correlation. The findings revealed that 41.8% of respondents possessed poor knowledge regarding early marriage, while 60.0% had a low level of understanding concerning cervical cancer risks. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant relationship between the two variables (p = 0.001), with a positive correlation ranging from weak to moderate strength (rho = 0.352; p = 0.008). It can be concluded that a better understanding of early marriage among adolescent girls correlates with higher awareness of cervical cancer risks. Schools and healthcare professionals are advised to promote regular reproductive health education to bridge this knowledge gap.

Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is a neonatal congenital disorder that can cause permanent developmental impairment if not detected early. Low coverage of Congenital Hypothyroidism Screening (CHS) at primary health facilities is influenced by limited maternal knowledge and educational attainment. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between maternal education and knowledge about CHS and its implementation for newborns at UPTD Puskesmas Bungkukan. A quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach was employed, involving 22 postpartum mothers selected through total sampling. Bivariate analysis was conducted using Spearman's rho correlation test. The results indicated a significant relationship between education and CHS implementation (r = 0.573; p = 0.005), and between knowledge and CHS implementation (r = 0.494; p = 0.019). A very strong correlation was also found between education and knowledge (r = 0.959; p = 0.000). It is concluded that maternal education and knowledge are the primary determinants of CHS implementation, necessitating sustained and targeted health education programs at the primary healthcare level.

Back pain is a physiological complaint that is often felt by pregnant women in the third trimester due to changes in posture, increased body weight, and shifting the center of gravity as the fetus grows. This condition is aggravated by an increase in relaxant hormones that make the pelvic ligaments stretch so that the pressure on the lumbar area increases. Non-pharmacological treatment is needed to be safe for the mother and fetus, one of which is through prenatal gentle yoga which is believed to increase muscle flexibility and relax back tension. This study aims to analyze the effect of prenatal gentle yoga on the reduction of back pain in pregnant women in the third trimester in the working area of the Akelamo Inpatient Health Center. The design used was a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest with 25 respondents selected through purposive sampling techniques. The level of pain was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), and data analysis was carried out by the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test because the data was not distributed normally. The results showed that the average pain score before the intervention of 5.08 decreased significantly to 0.04 after the intervention, with 96% of respondents no longer feeling pain. The statistical test produced an Asymp. Sig. value of 0.000 (p<0.05), which proves that there is a significant difference between the conditions before and after treatment. It can be concluded that prenatal gentle yoga is effective in reducing back pain in pregnant women in the third trimester, so that it can be used as an alternative to non-pharmacological interventions in antenatal services at the health center.
