Abstract

This research aims to improve the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Balikpapan in the 2024/2024 academic year in Catholic Religious Education and Character Building through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The research type is Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles with two meetings in each cycle. Each cycle consisted of 4 stages: planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The first and second cycles discussed the material of the Sacrament of the Eucharist. The subjects in this research were six Catholic eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Balikpapan in the 2024-2025 academic year. The data collection techniques used were tests and observation. The research results showed that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model could improve the learning outcomes of eighth-grade students from cycle 1 to cycle 2, namely from 70 in Cycle 1 to 80.83 in Cycle 2. The conclusion of this research is that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Audio-Visual Media can improve the learning outcomes of Catholic Religious Education and Character Building for eighth-grade students at SMPN 5 Balikpapan in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Abstract

This research aims to improve student learning outcomes at SMKN 1 Sintang through the implementation of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The background of this research is based on the problem of the low success rate of students in the conventional or lecture-based learning process, which is characterized by low active participation of students and a lack of understanding of the material on building a dignified life. This research used a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model involving 22 students from different majors in Phase F. The results of the research indicate that the application of PBL significantly improved student learning outcomes compared to the old or lecture-based teaching method. In addition, the PBL model was also proven effective in increasing student motivation, participation, engagement, and interest throughout the learning process. Thus, the application of PBL is recommended as a learning strategy that can improve student learning success at SMKN 1 Sintang, specifically in the Catholic Religious Education subject on the material of Building a Dignified Life.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' motivation and learning outcomes by using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning method assisted by group discussions on the material of the Passion and Death of Jesus in the subject of Catholic Religious Education. The subjects of this study were 7 students of class X of the DKV Department of SMKN 7 Surakarta in the 2024-2025 academic year in the even semester with 2 cycles. Each cycle is carried out in 1 meeting for 2 teaching hours. Each meeting includes the stages of planning, action, observation and reflection. Data collection techniques are carried out through documentation, observation sheets, group work results and written tests. Based on the research conducted, it was concluded that this method is very effective in improving student learning outcomes. This is indicated by the increasing activeness of students in doing assignments. Based on the researcher's observations in cycle 1, there were 3 children (43%) who paid less attention during learning, were less active in discussions and tended to discuss things that were not related to the lesson. As many as 57% were actively involved and focused on the tasks given. In cycle 2, student activity increased. Only 1 student (14%) still looks less active. An increase of 29%, from the original 57% to 86%. The increase in learning outcomes can also be seen from the summative test scores at the end of learning. In cycle 1 of 7 students only 4 children scored above 85 (57%) and experienced an increase in cycle 2 to 86% (6 children).

Abstract

The results of reflection on the learning outcomes of grade IX students showed that there were problems with affective aspects and cognitive aspects that affected their learning achievement. This problem arises because one of the causes is that teachers are less varied in using learning methods. The method used is still lecture. From these problems, the objectives of this research are: 1) improving student learning achievement with material on the Catholic Church's attitude towards religion and other beliefs which is reflected in their learning achievement that is still lacking, 2) improving the character of students' global diversity through the problem based learning (PBL) method. This classroom action research was carried out in four stages, namely planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection with 29 students in class 9A. The research was carried out in two cycles. This research focuses on the diversity dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile (P3). Data analysis was carried out with a percentage description to measure aspects of diversity with observation and learning achievement with the final test in each cycle. The results showed that there was an increase in learning achievement from cycle 1 to cycle 2 by 20%. The results of the cognitive aspect test showed that the average learning achievement score from cycle 1 was proficient 17%, proficient 27%, and proficient 20%, increasing to proficient 72%, proficient 27%, and proficient 0% in cycle 2. Meanwhile, in the aspect of diversity, it showed an increase from 68.49% to 84.58%. There was a 16% increase. The results of the reflection recommend that there needs to be affective aspect assistance for students so that it can increase student learning independence. The conclusion is that learning with the PBL method by focusing on one dimension of P3 can increase student learning independence.

Abstract

At SMAK Seminari Mario John Boen, students' critical reasoning and cognitive abilities were found to be underdeveloped due to conventional, lecture-based teaching methods that lacked creativity and student involvement. This study aimed to enhance students' critical reasoning through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method, which promotes creative and student-centered learning. Conducted as Classroom Action Research, the study involved 25 students in class X, phase E, and was carried out over two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. The PBL approach was applied to the Holy Trinity subject matter, with a focus on the critical reasoning dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile (P3), targeting the development of both cognitive and affective domains. Data were analyzed descriptively. The findings revealed a significant improvement in the affective aspect of critical reasoning, increasing from 56.67 in cycle 1 to 69.33 in cycle 2. Similarly, cognitive scores rose from 60.12 to 75.72. Achievement levels showed that 28% of students reached the Advanced stage, 48% the Proficient stage, 16% the Adequate stage, and 8% remained Undeveloped. Reflection results suggest the need for continued support in the affective domain. Overall, the research concludes that the Problem-Based Learning method, when aligned with the critical reasoning component of Pancasila Student Profile, effectively improves student learning outcomes both cognitively and affectively.

Abstract

The essence of Classroom Action Research is the existence of efforts in the form of actions or interventions carried out in a planned and systematic manner to solve classroom learning problems faced by teachers every day. Borg in Suyanto (1997:8) explains that the main objective of classroom action research is the development of teacher skills based on learning problems faced by teachers in their own classes. The Catholic Church believes that education is one way to implement the teachings of Christ. According to the document Educating in the Present and the Future (Instrumentum Laboris) no. 1b, faith education must not be separated from human education. Faith education and human education must run simultaneously, because the life of faith is one with every aspect of human life. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a learning model that is in accordance with the characteristics, situations and conditions of students. In the context of SLB A Karya Murni, the discovery learning model is in accordance with the characteristics, situations and conditions of students, especially in class VIII phase D. This Classroom Action Research takes the title: "Improving the Understanding of SLB A Karya Murni Class VIII Phase D Students about the Church as a Community Using the Discovery Learning Model Assisted by Living Flower Media". The author hopes that through research it will provide benefits for the author as an educator, students and educational institutions.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low level of critical thinking skills among Grade XI students at SMKN 1 Sokan, which has negatively impacted their learning outcomes in Catholic Religious Education. The aim of this study is to enhance students’ critical reasoning abilities through the implementation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Phase F, supported by audiovisual media. The method employed is Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted over two cycles, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, documentation, and learning outcome assessments. The findings indicate that the integration of PBL and audiovisual media significantly improves students’ active participation, analytical skills, and ability to formulate logical solutions. Audiovisual media has proven effective in facilitating concrete understanding of contextual materials. This approach is recommended as an instructional strategy for fostering critical thinking skills in Catholic Religious Education.

Abstract

This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK) which aims to improve student learning outcomes in the subject of Catholic Religious Education and Ethics through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model. The research was carried out in grade VI of SD Negeri 05 Sekubang in the even semester of the 2024/2025 school year and took place in two cycles. Cycle I will be held on April 7, 2025 with material on the One and Holy Church, while cycle II will be held on April 9, 2025 with material on the Catholic and Apostolic Church. Each cycle consists of four stages: planning, implementation of actions, observation, and reflection. This research method combines qualitative and quantitative approaches. Quantitative data was obtained through formative tests to measure the achievement of students' cognitive learning outcomes, while qualitative data was collected through observation, field notes, and documentation to assess the development of students' affective aspects based on the dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile (P3), especially in the Critical Reasoning dimension. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in the cognitive and affective aspects of students. The average cognitive score increased from 62 in the first cycle to 85 in the second cycle, with learning completeness increasing from 42.11% to 89.47%. In the affective aspect, there was an increase in the number of students who were categorized as "developing according to expectations" and "very developed" in critical thinking skills. In addition, teachers' ability to manage PBL-based learning has also improved, which has an impact on increasing active participation and student learning motivation. In conclusion, the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model has proven to be effective in improving student learning outcomes and character, especially in critical thinking skills. This study recommends that teachers continue to develop skills in implementing PBL and that schools provide full support for the implementation of innovative learning to improve the overall quality of education.

Abstract

The application of the cooperative learning model is the result of reflection on the educational process that has been going on so far. Schools tend to be arenas of competition. Starting from the beginning of their education at school, a child learns in a competitive atmosphere and must fight hard to win the competition to move up a class or pass the exam. According to Anita Lie (2002:24) one of the philosophies underlying the competitive education pattern is Darwin's theory of evolution, which states that the strong will win and survive in life. The principle of survival of the fittest is often reflected in education in schools. Negatively, the competitive learning model will only give birth to a spirit of individualism in students. Based on the background of the problem as above, we compiled this Classroom Action Research with the title "Increasing Learning Motivation with the Cooperative Learning Method through the Jigsaw Method on Christian Faith Material in Class IX of SMP Negeri 8 Ngabang, Landak". The application of the Jigsaw Model cooperative learning method can make Catholic Religion and Character lessons that seem boring more enjoyable.

Abstract

Good education can improve the quality of both students and educators. The low level of student activity and participation in studying Catholic Religious Education material will indirectly affect the learning outcomes achieved. This article discusses the use of the Discovery Learning model to improve student participation in class VIIIA at SMPK Santo Stanislaus Surabaya in the Sacrament of Baptism material. The focus is on understanding the success of using the Discovery Learning method to increase student participation in class VIIIA at SMPK Santo Stanislaus Surabaya. The emphasis of this study is that the use of the Discovery Learning model can enhance student participation, which in turn impacts the achievement targets and academic performance of the students. The methods used in this study are tests and observations. The expected results are to help students further increase their participation in Catholic Religious Education lessons. This article contributes to enriching the practice of Catholic Religious Education and supports the vision and mission of education in Indonesia."
