Abstract

Stunting was a condition in which a child's growth was slowed due to malnutrition or frequent infections, leaving them at high risk of disease and death. There study was a quasi-experimental study using quantitative methods and a control group approach with pre-test and post-test. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire. A total of 37 respondents were selected using a stratified sampling technique. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using the paired t-test and independent t-test formulas. Based on the analysis, the majority of 37 respondents (73%) were 17 years old and over. Furthermore, 91.9% of respondents had high knowledge of stunting prevention, while 8.1% had moderate knowledge of reproductive health. All respondents, or 100% of respondents, had positive attitudes toward stunting prevention. There was a difference in knowledge and attitudes among adolescent girls regarding stunting prevention before and after receiving reproductive health and balanced nutrition education at Sultan Agung 1 Islamic High School in Semarang. This was demonstrated by a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major non-communicable disease often referred to as a silent killer due to its asymptomatic nature and potential to cause serious complications. Walking exercise is one of the recommended non-pharmacological interventions proven to help reduce blood pressure. This case , using a nursing care approach, aims to examine the effect of walking therapy on lowering blood pressure and reducing headache intensity in a 62-year-old female patient living in Pakis Village, Malang Regency. The intervention consisted of a 30-minute daily walking session for seven consecutive days. The results showed a decrease in blood pressure from 160/95 mmHg to 140/85 mmHg, along with a reduction in headache intensity from a score of 6 (moderate pain) to 2 (mild pain). Physiologically, walking improves vascular elasticity, reduces stress hormones, and stimulates the release of endorphins that act as natural analgesics. These findings indicate that walking therapy is an effective, safe, and practical non-pharmacological nursing intervention to support hypertension management and improve the quality of life in older adults

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that can cause serious complications such as stroke and heart failure, especially in older adults. According to the Indonesian Health Survey, the prevalence of hypertension is quite high throughout Indonesia, including in the Sukoharjo area. Non-pharmacological management, such as Tai-Chi is quite effective because it is light aerobic and can reduce stress and improve cardiovascular function. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Tai-Chi on blood pressure of elderly people with hypertension in Posyandu Nusa Indah 7. The research methodology used a pre-experimental design with a one group pre-test and post-test design. A total of 31 elderly respondents were selected using total sampling. Three times a week. Data analysis was performed using the paired t-test statistical test. The findings showed that there was a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure after Tai-Chi intervention (p < 0.05). This indicates that Tai-Chi is effective in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive elderly. This study highlights the importance of using non-pharmacological interventions, such as Tai-Chi, in elderly health programs, both as a treatment for hypertension and as a preventive measure.

Abstract

Cancer is one of the non-communicable diseases that is the leading cause of death in children worldwide and must undergo intensive treatment such as chemotherapy which has side effects of anxiety and depression that affect the child's quality of life. In this situation, family support and parental coping strategies are important factors that can help children in the process of adapting to the disease and treatment. Parents who are able to manage stress with positive coping strategies and strong family support can improve the child's psychological well-being and improve their quality of life during therapy. To determine the relationship between parental coping strategies and family support on the quality of life of children with cancer undergoing chemotherapy at Dr. Moewardi Surakarta Regional Hospital. The research method used a cross-sectional design and consecutive sampling technique on 50 respondents. Statistical results using the Spearman-Rank test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.05), which indicates a significant relationship between parental coping strategies and family support on the quality of life of children with cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Parental coping strategies and family support play an important role in determining the quality of life of children with cancer. Health workers are expected to provide education and ongoing psychosocial support to families.

Abstract

Pain is a common side effect experienced by patients after undergoing cardiac catheterization procedures, primarily caused by trauma to the vascular tissue at the catheter insertion site. To address this issue, a non-pharmacological intervention that is easy to apply, safe, and effective is the use of cold pack therapy, which works by inducing vasoconstriction and inhibiting the transmission of pain impulses through nerve fibers, thereby reducing pain perception. This study aimed to determine the effect of cold pack application on pain intensity in post-cardiac catheterization patients at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital, Surakarta. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group approach, involving 46 respondents selected using accidental sampling technique. The respondents were evenly divided into two groups of 23: the intervention group received cold pack therapy, while the control group received standard care. The measurement instruments used were the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and an observation sheet. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and the Mann-Whitney U Test. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant change in pain intensity in the intervention group before and after the application of cold pack (p = 0.000). In addition, the Mann-Whitney test showed a significant posttest difference between the intervention and control groups (p = 0.000). The results indicate that cold pack therapy is proven effective in reducing pain in post-cardiac catheterization patients and can be implemented as part of non-pharmacological nursing interventions in the management of pain after invasive procedures.

Abstract

Emergency cesarean section in patients with placenta previa and hyperthyroidism presents significant anesthetic challenges due to the risk of massive hemorrhage and thyroid crisis. This case report describes the perioperative anesthetic management of a 31-year-old woman, G3P2A0, with complete placenta previa and uncontrolled hyperthyroidism who underwent emergency cesarean section. The patient presented with active vaginal bleeding at 39 weeks gestation. Laboratory findings revealed anemia (Hb 11.6 g/dL) and hyperthyroid state (TSH 0.10 mIU/L, FT4 3.24 ng/dL). Subarachnoid block was performed at L4-L5 level using levobupivacaine 12.5 mg combined with intrathecal morphine 70 mcg, achieving sensory block up to T6 dermatome. Light sedation with midazolam 3 mg and propofol 4 mg was administered intravenously after delivery. Intraoperative hypotension (90/61 mmHg) was managed with fluid resuscitation and ephedrine 10 mg IV, resulting in stable hemodynamics. The procedure was completed successfully without major complications. Postoperatively, the patient recovered well with Bromage score improving from 3 to 2 and Aldrete score reaching 9. This case demonstrates that subarachnoid block combined with light sedation provides safe and effective anesthetic management for emergency cesarean section in patients with placenta previa and uncontrolled hyperthyroidism, avoiding the risk of thyroid storm associated with general anesthesia

Abstract

Mammary tumor is an abnormal growth in breast tissue that can be classified as either benign or malignant. Early detection and appropriate treatment are crucial to prevent complications and ensure optimal patient outcomes. This case study describes the perioperative management of a 44-year-old female patient diagnosed with left mammary tumor (tumor mammae sinistra), who underwent excision surgery. The research method applied was a descriptive observational design with a case study approach. Data were collected from medical records, physical examination, laboratory findings, imaging results, and continuous monitoring of vital signs during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods. The findings showed that a comprehensive approach, including thorough preoperative assessment, careful anesthetic induction, precise surgical excision, and intensive postoperative monitoring, resulted in stable hemodynamic status and reduced the risk of perioperative complications. The patient demonstrated a favorable recovery with no recurrence observed in the short-term follow-up. In conclusion, comprehensive perioperative management in excision of a mammary tumor provides a positive prognosis and underscores the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration between surgical and anesthesia teams. Moreover, this case highlights the potential benefits of adopting similar protocols for patients undergoing mammary tumor surgery

Abstract

Cholelithiasis with comorbid anemia and thrombocytopenia poses significant challenges in perioperative management, particularly when laparoscopic cholecystectomy must be converted to open laparotomy due to severe inflammation and adhesions. This case report describes the anesthetic management of a 57-year-old male patient diagnosed with cholelithiasis, anemia (Hb 10.8 g/dL), thrombocytopenia (96 ×10³/µL), and leukopenia, who underwent surgery under balanced general anesthesia. The procedure was initiated laparoscopically but converted to open laparotomy due to gallbladder wall thickening and distorted anatomy. Intraoperatively, bleeding of approximately 500 mL occurred, requiring transfusion of packed red cells and platelets. Hemodynamic fluctuations in the form of hypotension were successfully managed with fluid therapy and transfusion, ensuring adequate tissue perfusion. Postoperatively, the patient experienced delayed emergence, which improved following antagonization with atropine and neostigmine. The patient was subsequently transferred to the ICU for intensive monitoring given the risks associated with anemia, thrombocytopenia, and suboptimal recovery. This case highlights the importance of comprehensive preoperative evaluation, vigilant intraoperative monitoring, individualized anesthetic strategies with balanced anesthesia, and multidisciplinary collaboration to minimize complications in biliary surgery patients with hematological comorbidities
