Abstract

The postpartum period is a crucial phase for mothers as it involves physiological and psychological changes that require adjustment to their new role as parents. Family support plays a significant role in the success of breastfeeding, encompassing informational, emotional, instrumental, and appraisal support. This study aims to analyze the effect of postpartum education based on Family Centered Maternity Care (FCMC) on family support in breastfeeding. The research design employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest and posttest control group approach. The study population consisted of pregnant women without complications at 36–40 weeks of gestation in the working area of UPT Puskesmas Kampung Baru. A total of 52 respondents were selected, divided into an intervention group (26 participants) and a control group (26 participants) using consecutive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using Paired T-Test and Independent T-Test. The results showed that FCMC-based education effectively increased family support (p = 0.000; p < 0.05). In conclusion, FCMC-based education is proven to strengthen family support for postpartum mothers, thereby contributing to the success of exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common chronic diseases experienced by the elderly and may cause psychological problems such as anxiety. The longer elderly individuals suffer from hypertension, the greater the risk of experiencing anxiety due to concerns about disease complications, long-term treatment, and physical limitations. This study aimed to determine the relationship between the duration of hypertension and anxiety levels among elderly people in Pentadio Timur Village, Telaga Biru District, Gorontalo Regency. This study used a quantitative method with an analytic observational design and a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 68 respondents selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using an observation sheet regarding the duration of hypertension and the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS) questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of ? = 0.05. The results showed that most respondents had suffered from hypertension for more than 10 years (38.2%) and experienced mild anxiety (55.9%). The Chi-Square test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between the duration of hypertension and anxiety levels among the elderly. The longer the elderly experienced hypertension, the higher the anxiety level tended to be. Therefore, psychological assessment and holistic nursing interventions are needed to improve the quality of life of elderly patients with hypertension

Abstract

Grief is a natural response to the loss of a loved one. However, prolonged grief may negatively affect an individual's psychological well-being, leading to decreased self-esteem and poor quality of life. Art therapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that can help individuals express emotions, improve self-acceptance, and enhance psychological well-being.Objective: To determine the effect of art therapy on improving self-esteem and quality of life in a patient experiencing grief. This study employed a descriptive case study design using the nursing process approach, including assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subject was a 60-year-old woman experiencing grief following the loss of her husband. Art therapy was administered in eight sessions over four weeks, with a frequency of two sessions per week. Self-esteem was measured using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), while quality of life was assessed using the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire before and after the intervention. The intervention resulted in an improvement in self-esteem, with the RSES score increasing from 14 (low self-esteem) to 17 (normal self-esteem). Quality of life also improved, with the WHOQOL-BREF score increasing from 46.25 (poor quality of life) to 50 (good quality of life). Throughout the intervention period, the patient demonstrated better emotional expression, increased social interaction, improved self-acceptance, and a more positive outlook on life. Art therapy appears to be effective in improving self-esteem and quality of life among grieving patients. This intervention can serve as a beneficial complementary nursing therapy to facilitate emotional expression, enhance self-acceptance, and support psychological adaptation during the grieving process.

Abstract

Patient falls are a patient safety issue that can cause serious injury or death; therefore, nurses’ adherence to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for fall-risk prevention must be maintained consistently. To analyze the association of age, workload, and nurses’ attitudes with nurses’ compliance with fall-risk prevention in Nilam Wards 1 2 at Dr. H. Moch. Ansari Saleh General Hospital, Banjarmasin. A quantitative analytic cross-sectional study involving 41 nurses (total sampling) conducted on 13–16 January 2026. Data were collected using a biodata sheet and modified questionnaires on compliance (Putrina, 2019), workload (Subagya, 2016), and attitude (Fajrin, 2024) with validity reliability testing. Univariate (frequency percentage) and bivariate (Spearman) analyses were performed. Most respondents were adults (82.9%), reported light workload (92.7%), had positive attitudes (90.2%), and were compliant with the fall-prevention SOP (87.8%). Spearman test showed no significant association between age and compliance (p=0.291; r=0.169), while workload was significantly associated with compliance but with a weak correlation (p=0.040; r=0.317), and attitude was significantly associated with compliance but with a weak correlation (p=0.027; r=0.225). Nurses’ compliance is associated with work conditions (workload) and individual factors (attitude); thus, sustaining compliance should focus on proactive SOP integration into daily workflow, audit–feedback, and strengthening a patient-safety culture not only after fall incidents.

Abstract

Chemotherapy is one of the main treatment methods for cancer patients; however, it may cause various side effects in the form of physical changes that can affect patients’ psychological conditions. Physical changes such as nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, hair loss, fatigue, weight loss, and changes in body appearance may become stressors that trigger anxiety in patients undergoing chemotherapy. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between physical changes and anxiety levels among patients undergoing chemotherapy in the Chemotherapy Unit of RSUD dr. Hasri Ainun Habibie, Gorontalo Province. This study used a quantitative correlational method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 63 respondents selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were collected using a physical changes questionnaire and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) to measure anxiety levels. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most respondents experienced severe physical changes, namely 27 respondents (42.9%), followed by moderate physical changes in 20 respondents (31.8%), and mild physical changes in 16 respondents (25.4%). The anxiety level of respondents was mostly in the moderate anxiety category, namely 30 respondents (47.7%), followed by mild anxiety in 20 respondents (31.8%), and severe anxiety in 13 respondents (20.7%). The Chi-Square test obtained a p-value of 0.0001, indicating a significant relationship between physical changes and anxiety levels among patients undergoing chemotherapy. The more severe the physical changes experienced by patients, the higher the anxiety level that may be felt during chemotherapy.

Abstract

Light Chain Amyloidosis is a serious, chronic, progressive disease that causes multisystem disorders and physical weakness. Individuals with Amyloidosis face physical, financial, and psychological burdens lead to hopelessness, anxiety, and depression and even an increased risk of suicide. An intervention that can be used to help prevent the risk for suicide is Gratitude Journal. This study employed a single-case study design involving a patient with light chain amyloidosis with the nursing diagnosis “risk for suicide.” Monitoring was conducted before and after the intervention over a three-day period using the following instruments: the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), as well as the patient’s verbal expressions regarding suicidal ideation, suicidal threats, and suicide plans. Results: The intervention resulted in a decrease in the PHQ-9 score from 26 to 25, indicating an improvement in the category of “feeling unmotivated to do anything”; there were no verbal expressions of suicidal ideation, suicidal cues, suicidal threats, or suicide plans. The Gratitude Journal intervention was administered over three days through the development of a therapeutic relationship, education, Gratitude Journal writing, and daily evaluation. Patients demonstrated positive responses, including the ability to identify things for which they could still be grateful, greater openness in expressing their feelings, and an increase in life expectancy. Gratitude Journal has the potential as a simple and easily implementable psychosocial-spiritual nursing intervention to help increase gratitude, life expectancy, and psychological well-being in patients who are at risk of suicide. Consistent use of Gratitude Journal is necessary to achieve optimal results.

Abstract

Abstract

Leukocyturia is a serious problem in the context of health, especially for individuals with low immune systems. Leukocyturia can occur in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (Type 2 DM) due to high and uncontrolled glucose levels for a long time, causing a decrease in phagocytosis function by leukocyte cells. This makes Type 2 DM patients susceptible to infection and inflammation of the bladder. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in leukocyte urinalysis results in patients with Type 2 DM based on the duration of suffered at the Muara Dua Health Center in Lhokseumawe City. This research is a quantitative study that uses a cross sectional study design and non probability sampling technique with accidental sampling type. Patient characteristics were obtained by interview. The research material was urine taken from 99 respondents. The examination was carried out by dipstick method and the statistical analysis was carried out by Kruskal Wallis test. The results showed that most patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were aged 56-65 years, female, had a duration of Type 2 DM for 1-5 years. A total of 17 respondents (89.5%) experienced leukocyturia in the large category. Leukocyturia in the large category is more likely to occur in patients aged 56-65 years, female, having a duration of Type 2 DM between 11-15 years. The test results showed a p value = 0.000 (?0.1) which means there is a significant difference in the results of leukocyte urinalysis in patients with Type 2 DM based on the duration of suffered at the Muara Dua Health Center in Lhokseumawe City. Follow-up of this study is very important to identify and manage the risk of urinary tract infection (UTI) more effectively

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that is frequently accompanied by diabetic foot ulcers, which are characterized by delayed wound healing. In addition to metabolic factors, psychological conditions such as stress are believed to contribute to elevated blood glucose levels and impaired wound healing. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between stress levels, blood glucose levels, and wound healing among patients with diabetes mellitus in the Rimbo Tengah Public Health Center working area. This study employed a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 40 patients with diabetes mellitus were recruited using a purposive sampling technique. Stress levels were assessed using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-42) questionnaire, blood glucose levels were obtained from blood glucose measurements, and wound healing was evaluated using the Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool (BWAT). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance level of 95% (? = 0.05). The results showed that most respondents experienced mild stress (52.5%), had poor blood glucose control (50.0%), and were classified in the wound regeneration category (57.5%). Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between stress levels and blood glucose levels (p = 0.002; r = 0.462), as well as between stress levels and wound healing (p = 0.004; r = 0.418). Higher stress levels were associated with poorer glycemic control and slower wound healing. It can be concluded that psychological conditions play an important role in diabetes management and the wound healing process. Therefore, nursing care should integrate stress management as part of comprehensive interventions to improve glycemic control and accelerate wound healing in patients with diabetes mellitus.
