Abstract

Bangun-bangun leaves (Coleus amboinicus) and katuk leaves (Sauropus androgynus) are known to contain compounds that enhance breast milk production. Bangun-bangun leaves contain lactagogue, polyphenols, and flavonoids, while katuk leaves also contain lactagogue, saponins, and steroids. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of bangun-bangun leaf decoction and katuk leaf decoction in increasing breast milk production in breastfeeding mothers in Sampali Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a two-group pre-post test design. The sample consisted of 20 breastfeeding mothers divided into two groups: the first group received bangun-bangun leaf decoction, and the second group received katuk leaf decoction. Data were collected by measuring breast milk production before and after the intervention. Data analysis was conducted using bivariate and multivariate statistical tests. The study findings indicate that both bangun-bangun and katuk leaf decoctions positively impact breast milk production. However, when comparing the magnitude of the effect, katuk leaves had a greater influence (coefficient 0.035) compared to bangun-bangun leaves (coefficient 0.015). Additionally, the significance value of katuk leaves (0.001 < 0.042) demonstrated a higher level of confidence in their effectiveness. Among the two types of leaves, katuk leaves showed a more significant and stronger effect in increasing breast milk production in breastfeeding mothers in Sampali Village. Therefore, it is recommended that mothers experiencing low breast milk supply consume both katuk and bangun-bangun leaves, as they have been proven effective in increasing breast milk production

Abstract

Speech ability is an important indicator in the development of preschool-aged children. Speech Delay can affect a child's cognitive, social, and emotional aspects if not addressed early. Parental factors, especially maternal factors, such as knowledge, attitudes, and stimulation are thought to play a role in the development of children's speech abilities. This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge, maternal attitudes, and maternal stimulation with the incidence of Speech Delay in preschool-aged children at the Children's Polyclinic of Ulin Banjarmasin Regional Hospital. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 32 respondents selected using an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that 65.6% of children experienced Speech Delay, which consisted of the categories of suspect, mental retardation, and communication disorders. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between maternal attitudes (p = 0.010) and maternal stimulation (p = 0.029) and children's speech ability, while maternal knowledge showed no significant relationship (p = 0.464). It can be concluded that maternal attitudes and stimulation play an important role in preschoolers' speech ability. Knowledge alone is not sufficient to prevent Speech Delay without active parenting practices

Abstract

Early Warning Score (EWS) is a system designed to detect early clinical deterioration in patients through the monitoring of vital signs. Although EWS has been implemented at Hospital X in Tarakan City, its implementation has not yet been fully optimal. Nurses’ compliance in conducting EWS monitoring may be influenced by several factors, including knowledge, training, and workload. This study aimed to determine the relationship between nurses’ knowledge, training, and workload and their compliance with EWS monitoring in the inpatient wards of Hospital X, Tarakan City. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 49 nurses were selected using total sampling technique. The instruments used were questionnaires and observation sheets. Data were analyzed using the Gamma statistical test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had good knowledge (85.7%), had attended EWS training (71.4%), and demonstrated a high level of compliance in EWS monitoring (95.9%). Most respondents also perceived a high mental workload (63.3%). The Gamma test results indicated that there was no significant relationship between knowledge (p = 0.182), training (p = 0.153), and workload (p = 0.885) and compliance with EWS monitoring. In conclusion, knowledge, training, and workload were not significantly associated with nurses’ compliance in monitoring the Early Warning Score. Other approaches are needed to improve compliance, such as routine supervision, evaluation of EWS implementation, and improvement of the documentation system.

Abstract

Loneliness and academic stress frequently emerge during adolescence, particularly among individuals raised in broken homes, where family disruption may influence emotional stability and adjustment to academic demands. This study aimed to examine the relationship between loneliness and academic stress among adolescents from broken homes. A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. The participants were 114 tenth-grade students from two vocational high schools selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 and the Student-Life Stress Inventory, and analyzed using normality testing and Spearman Rho correlation. The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between loneliness and academic stress, indicating that higher levels of loneliness were associated with higher levels of perceived academic stress. These results highlight the importance of psychosocial support in schools and contribute to the conceptual understanding of social connectedness in adolescent academic stress.

Abstract

The third trimester of pregnancy is a period that is vulnerable to psychological disturbances, particularly anxiety, especially among primigravida pregnant women who are facing childbirth for the first time. Anxiety is an emotional condition characterized by feelings of fear and worry accompanied by physiological and psychological responses, which, if not properly managed, may negatively affect maternal health and fetal development. One non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to reduce anxiety is Restorative Yoga, a form of yoga that emphasizes deep relaxation through gentle movements, controlled breathing, and the use of supportive props. This study aimed to determine the effect of Restorative Yoga on anxiety levels among third-trimester primigravida pregnant women in Sidorejo Village. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest ap-proach. The research was conducted in Sidorejo Village and involved 36 third-trimester primigravida pregnant women as respondents, selected using a non-probability sampling technique with purposive sampling. Anxiety levels were meas-ured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) before and after the imple-mentation of restorative yoga exercises. Data analysis was performed using the Wil-coxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed that before the intervention, most respondents experi-enced moderate anxiety (69.4%) and severe anxiety (5.6%). After the Restorative Yoga intervention, anxiety levels decreased, with the majority of respondents classi-fied as having mild anxiety (91.7%), and no respondents experienced severe anxie-ty. The Wilcoxon test showed a value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistical-ly significant difference in anxiety levels before and after the intervention. These findings indicate that Restorative Yoga is effective in promoting relaxation and re-ducing anxiety in pregnant women. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that restorative yoga exercise has a significant effect in reducing anxiety levels among third-trimester primigravida pregnant women in Sidorejo Village.

Abstract

Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) are commonly experienced by patients undergoing spinal anesthesia. This condition occurs due to the activation of the vomiting center situated in the medulla oblongata, activated by inputs from the gastrointestinal tract, vestibular apparatus, and the pharmacological effects of anesthetic agents and opioids. This process involves multiple receptor pathways, including dopamine (D2), serotonin (5-HT3), muscarinic (M1), histamine (H1), neurokinin-1 (NK1), and opioid (?) receptors, which collectively regulate emetic reflexes via the Chemoreceptor Trigger Zone (CTZ). Ginger aromatherapy exerts antiemetic effects by suppressing serotonin (5-HT3) receptor activity, thereby diminishing stimulation of the vomiting center. Meanwhile, P6 acupressure influences the autonomic nervous system and promotes beta-endorphin secretion, contributing to the inhibition of nausea and vomiting reflexes. This research sought to evaluate the effectiveness of combining ginger aromatherapy with P6 acupressure in alleviating PONV. This research utilised a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group format and included 22 respondents chosen purposively. The assessment of symptoms was carried out using “the Rhodes Index of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching (RINVR)”. Paired t-test analysis in the intervention group revealed a score reduction from 14.18 to 6.45 (p = 0.000), whereas the control group showed a change from 13.55 to 11.00 (p = 0.001). Independent t-test results on posttest scores confirmed a significant difference between groups (p = 0.000). These findings indicate that the combined intervention is effective in reducing PONV among spinal anesthesia patients

Abstract

Diarrheal disease remains one of the leading causes of death among children under five in Indonesia. One preventive effort against diarrhea is the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). However, many mothers have not fully applied PHBS in their daily lives. To determine the relationship between Clean and Healthy Living Behavior and the incidence of diarrhea among children under five in Kelurahan Mangga Dua Selatan, Central Jakarta. This study used a descriptive quantitative method with a correlational analytic design and a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of mothers with children under five, and a total of 92 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. The instruments used were PHBS questionnaires and diarrhea incidence questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The study found that 51.1% of mothers did not adhere to PHBS, and 88% of children under five experienced diarrhea in the past year. The chi-square test showed a significant relationship between PHBS and diarrhea incidence (p = 0.020 < 0.05), indicating that PHBS influences diarrhea occurrence in toddlers. The lower the mother's adherence to PHBS, the higher the risk of diarrhea in their children
