Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concepts of haqiqah (literal meaning) and majaz (figurative meaning) in Ushul Fiqh and their implications in the determination of Sharia law. The study is motivated by the issue that misunderstanding the difference between these meanings often affects the legal conclusions derived from Qur’anic and Prophetic texts. The research employs a qualitative-descriptive approach through library research on classical works by scholars such as Al-Amidi, Al-Ghazali, Al-Razi, Asy-Syaukani, Ibn Manzur, and Al-Jurjani. The findings indicate that distinguishing between literal and figurative meanings is a crucial step in deriving rulings from Qur’anic and Hadith texts. The meaning of haqiqah is always prioritized unless there is qarinah requiring a shift to majaz. The study concludes that the concepts of haqiqah and majaz serve as methodological instruments to ensure accuracy, consistency, and contextual relevance in Islamic legal reasoning.

Abstract

This research examines the concept of humanistic Sufism formulated by Said Aqil Siradj and its relevance to the development of al-insan al-kamil within the framework of integrative Islamic education. The study originates from concerns over moral degradation and the dominance of intellectual development in modern education, which often neglects emotional, ethical, and spiritual dimensions. The purpose of this research is to explore the philosophical foundations, values, and educational implications of Said Aqil’s Sufi thought as a transformative model for character building. This study employs a qualitative library research design using a conceptual-sufistic approach and thematic analysis to examine academic literature related to Sufism, spirituality, humanism, and Islamic education. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed to identify core concepts and pedagogical implications. The findings indicate that Said Aqil Siradj’s Sufism integrates vertical devotion to God and horizontal responsibility toward humanity. Elements such as tazkiyat an-nafs, ihsan, compassion, and inclusive ethics serve as strategic foundations for shaping holistic human character.

Abstract

This article explains that Usul al-Fiqh is one of the fundamental disciplines in the treasury of Islamic knowledge that serves as a methodology for exploring sharia law. The study of the orientation of ushul al-fiqh covers various aspects, from its definition, object, historical development, to the objectives behind the birth of this discipline. Usul al-fiqh is defined as a set of rules and methods used to understand sharia arguments, thereby generating practical law (fiqh). The object of study does not only revolve around the arguments of the Qur'an, hadith, ijma', and qiyas, but also discusses the method of systematic istinbath of law. The history of ushul al-fiqh shows significant developments from the time of the companions to the codification by classical scholars such as Imam Shafi'i, which then gave rise to various schools of thought and methodological approaches. The main objective of ushul al-fiqh is to maintain the consistency of legal determination so that it remains in accordance with the maqasid al-sharia, while also providing flexibility in dealing with social dynamics. Furthermore, it is important to distinguish between ushul fiqh and qawaid fiqh. Ushul fiqh serves as a methodology for istinbath (determination of the law), while qawaid fiqh is a general and applicable practical principle in furu' (legal issues). Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the orientation of ushul fiqh provides a crucial contribution to building an Islamic legal system that is relevant, adaptive, and remains grounded in the basic principles of sharia.

Abstract

This article discusses the concepts of Ijma' (consensus of scholars) and Qiyas (analogy) as two important methods in Usul Fiqh (principles of Islamic law). Ijma' is the consensus of mujtahids (jurists) during the period following the death of the Prophet Muhammad. Qiyas is a method of establishing new laws based on the similarity of 'illat (legal reasoning) with cases already stipulated in the Qur'an or Sunnah. This article aims to analyze the definitions, divisions, validity of the evidence, and functions of Ijma' and Qiyas according to various scholars' perspectives.

Abstract

This study examines how Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) principles are applied in Islamic finance and banking practices in Indonesia as an effort to achieve justice and economic well-being. Using qualitative and normative methods through literature review and regulatory comparison, this study finds that Islamic jurisprudence values such as monotheism, justice, prophecy, khilafah, and ma'ad serve as the operational foundations of Islamic banking institutions. The implementation of these principles is evident in the use of various Islamic contracts, the role of the Sharia Supervisory Board, and the implementation of the prohibition on usury. Fatwas from the National Sharia Council (DSN-MUI), along with government policies, serve to ensure compliance with Islamic law. Challenges include the existence of two banking systems, the need for regulatory adjustments, and increased public understanding. Overall, the application of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) makes a significant contribution to creating a fairer financial system that is oriented towards the interests of the community.

Abstract

Contemporary Islamic studies face challenges in integrating a just gender perspective. This study critically examines how gender approaches can be used to reconstruct a more inclusive and egalitarian understanding of Islam. Employing qualitative methods with a feminist hermeneutic approach, this research analyzes classical and contemporary religious texts as well as religious practices related to gender issues. The findings reveal that many patriarchal interpretations of Islamic texts are more influenced by socio-cultural contexts than by the substantive values of Islam itself. Gender-based reconstruction of Islamic understanding reveals that the principles of justice ('adl), equality (musawah), and respect for human dignity (karamah insaniyah) are actually aligned with gender equality values. This study concludes that the gender approach in Islamic studies is not merely an analytical method, but also an instrument of liberation to realize Islam as rahmatan lil 'alamin (a mercy to all worlds).

Abstract

Hadith books occupy a crucial position in the treasury of Islamic scholarship as the primary source after the Qur'an. Therefore, their existence requires a thorough understanding of the compilation methods and characteristics of each book. The diverse forms and systematics of compilation of hadith books, such as al-Jami', al-Sunan, al-Musnad, al-Muwatta', and al-Mustadrak, demonstrate the methodological developments of scholars in preserving, codifying, and facilitating access to the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This article aims to explain the meaning and scope of hadith books, introduce various compilation methods, and describe the most renowned hadith books in the Islamic tradition. This research employs library research through analysis of various classical works and relevant contemporary scholarly literature. The results show that each type of book has its own orientation and method, ranging from thematic approaches, fiqh (jurisprudence), sanad (chain of narrators), to additional verification of previous works. Famous books such as Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Musnad Ahmad, Sunan Abī Dāwūd, and al-Mustadrak testify to the scholars' meticulousness in preserving the authenticity of the Sunnah. These varied methods reflect the scientific and historical needs of the Muslim community, but ultimately lead to the same primary goal: preserving and maintaining the purity of the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ.

Abstract

Astronomical studies on the determination of prayer times, particularly for the Fajr and Isha prayers, often employ different solar depression angles as the basis of calculation. This study compares the determination of the beginning of prayer times using solar depression angles of 18°, 19°, and 20° to examine how variations in these angles affect the resulting time differences. Using an astronomical analysis approach, the differences in angles were found to produce a significant time discrepancy, especially for the Fajr prayer, which is more sensitive to changes in solar depression. The results of this comparison provide valuable insights for institutions responsible for establishing official prayer timetables and for the wider Muslim community. These findings can serve as a reference in developing more accurate and astronomically consistent criteria for determining prayer times.

Abstract

Background: The modern era presents serious challenges to the formation of students’ character and social ethics. The degradation of moral values such as individualism, materialism, and the weakening of social solidarity requires Islamic religious education to play a more strategic role in building the ethical awareness of the younger generation. Research Objectives: This study aims to: (1) analyze the concept of social ethics from the perspective of Tafsir Al-Bayan by Imam Abdul Hamid Hakim, (2) identify the role of Islamic education in shaping students’ social ethics, and (3) formulate pedagogical implications for the development of a social-ethics-based Islamic Education (PAI) curriculum. Methods: This research employs a qualitative approach using library research methods. Primary data were obtained from Tafsir Al-Bayan, while secondary data were sourced from Islamic education literature, academic journals, and books related to social ethics. Data were analyzed using content analysis techniques with a hermeneutic approach to understand the textual and contextual meanings of Qur’anic verses related to social ethics.Main Findings: The results show that Tafsir Al-Bayan emphasizes three dimensions of social ethics: (1) ta'awun (mutual assistance) as the foundation of social solidarity, (2) ihsan (benevolence) as the orientation of interpersonal behavior, and (3) ‘adl (justice) as the principle of distributing rights and responsibilities. Islamic education serves as a medium for internalizing these values through integrative learning that connects sacred texts with contemporary social realities. Implications: These findings contribute to the development of PAI learning models that are not only oriented toward ritual-worship aspects but also toward the formation of students’ ethical and social awareness. PAI teachers need to integrate contextual tafsir approaches into the learning process to bridge Qur’anic values with present-daysocialissues.
