Abstract

This article revisits the role of grammar in second language acquisition through a critical approach to the Monitor Theory developed by Stephen D. Krashen. This theory positions grammar as an aid or monitor in the language learning process, not as the primary focus of acquisition. Using a literature review method, this article analyses Krashen's views and compares them with contemporary theories and empirical findings from experts such as Ellis, Swain, Schmidt, and Lightbown & Spada. The results of the study indicate that although explicit grammar instruction plays a role in improving written accuracy and understanding complex structures, effective language acquisition still depends on exposure to meaningful input (comprehensible input) and the use of language in real communication contexts. Therefore, this article emphasises the importance of a balanced approach between grammar learning and contextual language experience. It is hoped that this article will contribute to the development of a more adaptive language pedagogy that is in line with the needs of today's learners.

Abstract

This research is based on observation data which shows that students have difficulty writing Arabic due to differences in intellectual abilities and different school backgrounds. In response to this problem, the researcher conducted a quasi-experimental study. This research aims to: 1) To find out students' ability in writing skills in tenth grade at Daarul Aytam As-Shofy Cileungsi Islamic Boarding School. 2) To find out the effectiveness of using the Imla' simak method in improving writing skills in tenth grade at Daarul Aytam As-Shofy Cileungsi Islamic Boarding School. This research is a quantitative research. Using quasi-experimental method in the research. The data collection methods used were observation, documentation, pretest and posttest. The data analysis method used was the t-test. This is evidenced by the increase in the pre-test score. Before using the Imla' method, students obtained a pre-test score of 73.00 with a sufficient category, and after using the Imla' method, the post-test score was 86.00 with a very good category. Evidenced by the results of the t-test calculation which produces a calculated t value greater than the t table value, namely 6.475 and based on a significant value (2-tailed) of 0.000 which is smaller than 0.05. The accepted hypothesis is the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and the rejected hypothesis is the first hypothesis (H0).

Abstract

This study explores the field of Arabic morphology by examining the structural and semantic dimensions of word formation. Morphology, as a core component of Arabic linguistics, investigates the patterns and transformations of words, focusing on roots, weights, and derivational structures. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical methodology, utilizing classical texts such as the Qur’an, Hadith, and Arabic literature, alongside modern linguistic corpora and natural language processing (NLP) tools. The findings reveal that Arabic morphology exhibits a high degree of derivational flexibility, with consistent semantic functions linked to morphological patterns. The study highlights the effectiveness of digital tools in identifying complex morphological structures and underscores the need for standardized morphological databases to support computational linguistics applications. Additionally, it uncovers gaps in educational practices and student awareness of morphological nuances. By integrating traditional linguistic theories with modern computational approaches, the research proposes a unified analytical framework for both pedagogical and technological advancement. It concludes that Arabic morphology remains essential not only for linguistic analysis but also for modern applications in education, artificial intelligence, and digital content development.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Amsilati book in Arabic language learning and evaluate its effectiveness and implications for the learning process. The Amsilati book, known as a pattern-based Arabic grammar learning method, is adopted as a teaching aid to facilitate the understanding of shorof rules among middle-level students. The research approach used is qualitative-descriptive with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the use of Amsilati can significantly improve students' understanding and accuracy in identifying changes in word form (tashrif). In addition, this method also has a positive impact on students' learning motivation because of its systematic and interactive presentation. The implications of the application of the Amsilati book include the need for continuous teacher training and curriculum adjustments so that this method can be optimally integrated into shorof learning at various levels of education. Keywords: Amsilati, Arabic, learning effectiveness, pattern method, educational implications.

Abstract

This study was motivated by low Arabic vocabulary (mufradat) mastery among third-grade students of SD Ar-Rafi JOY in Kiaracondong, Bandung. This research aimed to improve students’ vocabulary acquisition using the interactive learning application Baamboozle. This study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR), consisting of two cycles: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 27 students. The findings showed a significant improvement in students' learning outcomes. In Cycle I, the average pre-test score was 50.59, which increased to 64.04 in the post-test. In Cycle II, the average pre-test score rose to 80.50, while the post-test reached 96.96. These results indicate that the use of Baamboozle was effective in enhancing students’ mastery of Arabic vocabulary. The interactive and engaging features of the application contributed to increased student motivation and participation in the learning process. This research suggests that digital media such as Baamboozle can be valuable tools for developing more attractive and effective Arabic language instruction. Future studies are recommended to explore the use of Baamboozle in improving other Arabic language skills, including speaking (kalām), listening (istimā‘), reading (qirā’ah), and writing (kitābah).

Abstract

The background of this study on the issue of Imla’ (dictitation) teaching in Arabic language teaching to seventh grade students is due to factors that influence dictation teaching. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors of dictation teaching and their solutions in Arabic language teaching at the Kediri State Islamic Secondary School. This research uses a qualitative research method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, documents, and descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that dictation in Arabic language teaching is carried out by writing new vocabulary on the blackboard, reading it, translating it, repeating it, and then assessing the dictation. The use of interactive activities, such as group discussions and peer feedback, can enrich the learning experience by encouraging collaboration and active engagement among students. Factors in dictation teaching include students' educational backgrounds, their lack of ability to understand dictation rules, their lack of understanding of the relationship between letters of the alphabet, the irregular distribution of letters, their lack of independence, and so on. Teachers' efforts to overcome spelling problems include: explaining spelling rules, providing motivation, training, memorising vocabulary, then writing and translating. Abstract

Peer tutoring is a method that involves students helping each other learn academic material by reviewing and reinforcing key concepts. This method has been implemented as one of the teaching strategies for Arabic grammar (nahwu) in the MANPK Jember program. Teaching the Arabic language, especially Arabic grammar is one of the subjects that receives great attention at this school. One of the reasons is that the textbooks used in Islamic religious studies are written in Arabic. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study (field research) design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis in this study follows the framework proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which includes data condensation, data display, and verification. The validity of the data was ensured through triangulation. The results of the research show that the peer tutoring method was applied in teaching Arabic grammar (nahwu) in the MANPK Jember program, both during the learning process at the boarding school and in large classroom settings. The implementation consists of four stages: 1) The teacher explains the Arabic grammar materials to the students when they are in the 10th grade, first semester, for about five to six months, 2) The teacher divides the students into several groups, 3) The students explain the material to their peers within their groups, 4) The teacher conducts an evaluation. The problems encountered include: 1) Many students have difficulty maintaining concentration during the learning process, 2) Some students feel bored because this method is used daily to teach Arabic grammar rules, 3) Some students who act as tutors do not perform their roles effectively.
