Abstract

Young Catholics have a very important role in the church. Young people are the next generation and are a pillar in building Spiritual faith, service, being the driving force and being the hope for the future development of the church. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relevance of the Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit in formulating and implementing Toraja Youth Day (TYD) 2025, a strategic activity of the Makassar Archdiocesan Youth Commission to empower Catholic Youth (OMK) in the Toraja Kevikepan. The method used is qualitative by means of interviews focusing on the Christus Vivit document and the context of organizing TYD 2025, including the challenges faced by OMK. The research shows that Christus Vivit's invitation to make young people protagonists, utilize creativity in proclaiming the Gospel, and the importance of contextual pastoral assistance are very relevant to the objectives of TYD 2025 to strengthen faith, build solidarity, and encourage active involvement of OMK. The integration of Christus Vivit values in TYD 2025, becomes a theological and pastoral foundation that inspires OMK to rise from the challenges of faith and witness as agents of change in the Church and in society.

Abstract

Catholic Religious Education (CRE) plays a vital role in shaping students’ character, morality, and spirituality. However, traditional and monotonous teaching approaches often lead to passive student engagement and low motivation. This article explores the implementation of the Think Pair Share (TPS) method in CRE as an innovative, cooperative, and student-centered learning strategy. Utilizing a literature review method, this study analyzes various scholarly sources related to TPS and Catholic religious education. The findings indicate that the TPS method encourages students to think critically, engage in peer discussions, and confidently share ideas in class, thereby creating an active and inclusive learning environment. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of this method depends greatly on the teacher’s readiness in lesson planning, fostering a supportive classroom atmosphere, and providing constructive feedback. Adaptive and creative teaching strategies are essential to ensure that TPS is effectively and meaningfully applied within the context of CRE in the era of independent learning.

Abstract

In the celebration of the Eucharist, silence is an important element in liturgical celebrations. Liturgical silence is a means that sends people into the inner world where God is personally experienced. Silence is a time when people listen and absorb God's Word and bear fruit in their daily lives through words, actions and deeds. The author's purpose in making this scientific paper is to urge the people to maintain silence while participating in the Eucharistic Celebration, so that all people can prepare themselves and mind to follow and carry out the Eucharistic Celebration with a calm heart and mind. The method of writing this thesis is a literature review. This scientific work was compiled based on the author's concern about the lack of appreciation of the people in participating in the Eucharistic Celebration. It is undeniable that there are things that disturb the silence during the Eucharistic Celebration, such as the noise in the sacrament when the officers are preparing themselves, and the sound of mobile phones ringing. Therefore, before the Eucharistic Celebration, it is highly recommended that silence can be created, both in the church and in the area around the church. This paper recalls that silence can be created through prayer. And the most important thing in prayer is not to first seek what we want, but to be aware of the desire and inner movement that is driven by God Himself.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how the image of the Besikama people is formed and interpreted through the Hamis Batar tradition, a sacred sacrificial ritual. Using ethnographic methods, this study delves into the cultural practices and spiritual beliefs of the Besikama people, particularly in the context of their interactions with things considered sacred. This analysis utilizes the theoretical scalpel of “the look of the Sacred” introduced by Robert A. Orsi, a concept that goes beyond visual representation to understand a deeper relationship between humans and the divine, or “body beyond the image.” Initial findings indicate that Hamis Batar is not simply a series of ceremonies, but rather a space where the boundaries between the visible (body rituals, offerings) and the invisible (spiritual power, ancestral presence) are blurred. The Besikama people not only look at something sacred, but they also experience and shape it through actions, emotions, and physical sensations. Thus, the image formed is not a static representation, but a dynamic and living reality, continuously constructed and articulated through the practice of Hamis Batar. This research contributes to a richer understanding of how ritual can serve as a vehicle for experiencing and negotiating sacred meaning, going beyond mere symbolism.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the role of the spirituality of the Catholic faith as the foundation of student resilience in facing the dynamics of academic life. The research uses the literature review method by examining reputable Church documents, books, and articles. The results of the study show that student resilience does not only come from psychological and social factors, but gains depth when supported by the spiritual dimension. Catholic spirituality lived through prayer, sacraments, devotion, and involvement in the community of faith provides meaning in suffering, transcendent strength, and social support that strengthen students' resilience. The integration of resilience and spirituality makes academic life not only an arena for intellectual achievement, but also a space for faith growth and spiritual maturity. Thus, the spirituality of the Catholic faith serves as a foundation that helps students not only survive academic pressure, but also develop into hopeful individuals who are ready to contribute to the Church and society.

Abstract

This study examines the challenges and solutions faced by teachers in implementing Catholic Religious Education (CRE) learning through a deep learning approach in the classroom. The era of educational digitalization demands a transformation from traditional learning methods to more innovative and profound approaches. Deep learning in the educational context refers to learning strategies that encourage students to understand concepts deeply, analyze, evaluate, and integrate knowledge with spiritual experiences. This research methodology uses a literature review by analyzing various literature sources related to the implementation of deep learning in CRE learning. The research results show that teachers face main challenges in the form of limited technological competence, resistance to learning paradigm changes, and infrastructure inadequacy. Solutions that can be applied include improving teacher digital literacy, developing hybrid learning models, integrating technology that is in accordance with Catholic values, and forming professional learning communities. This research contributes to developing an implementation framework for effective and meaningful deep learning for CRE learning. Practical implications include policy recommendations for teacher professional development and phased implementation strategies in the context of Indonesian Catholic education.

Abstract

This paper aims to examine in depth the application of the behaviorist learning theory proposed by Edward Lee Thorndike in the learning process of Catholic Religious Education. Thorndike emphasized that the learning process occurs through the relationship between stimuli and responses, which are strengthened through repeated practice and reinforcement. This reinforcement can be in the form of awards such as praise and prizes, or punishments that function to strengthen or weaken certain responses. In this study, the author also describes in detail the basic laws in Thorndike's theory which are the foundation for implementing the behaviorist approach in teaching and learning activities. Furthermore, this theory can be applied practically in Catholic Religious Education learning by providing appropriate stimulus and reinforcement to students through directed learning activities. The stimulus and reinforcement have the potential to encourage changes in attitudes and behavior in a more positive direction, in accordance with the values of the Catholic faith. Therefore, teachers as learning facilitators need to develop learning strategies that are planned, structured, and able to shape students' character and faith comprehensively and continuously.

Abstract

Throughout the year 2025, the Catholic Church is undergoing an Ordinary Jubilee Year. This Jubilee Year was opened on December 24, 2024, and will be closed on January 6, 2026. This Jubilee Year is the first ordinary jubilee in the third millennium. The mystery of faith that is contemplated in it is the mystery of the incarnation of the Word becoming Man in the person of Jesus Christ. Realizing the importance of the mystery of faith that is contemplated in this Jubilee Year, by using library research, the author collects and reads various writings about jubilees, especially the Ordinary Jubilee 2025. In this writing, we will look at the concept of jubilee, both in the scriptures and as intended by the Catholic Church. This writing also briefly describes the theme contemplated in the Jubilee Year 2025, as well as what needs to be done to fill this jubilee year.
