Abstract

This research is based on online English learning that has been running for more than 1 year of class VIIIC junior high school student Misykat Al-Anwar most students complain that teaching and learning activities are very boring. Moreover, speaking skills require a lot of practice so that students are fluent in English. But with the Covid-19 pandemic, all learning activities are carried out online. Problems of this research how are the perception of VIIIC class students about English learning conducted online as well as its advantages and disadvantages. The researcher use the qualitative method. In accordance with the observations made students experience a lot of material that is not delivered, they feel monotonous, and also the network signal is inadequate for smooth learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the type of Assumption and the dominant of Assumption contained in Sang Pemimpi film. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method that aims to describe the data with the. The data of this research is Sang Pemimpi Film. The data in this study were obtained from conversations between characters in the Film The source of research data comes from this film script. Data collection was conducted using observation, taking notes, and reduction. The implied meaning of each type of Assumption is determined based on the context of the situation. The researcher found 42 utterances in Sang Pemimpi's film with details: existential Assumption 11 (26%), factive Assumption 9 (21%), structural Assumption 9(21%), counter-factual Assumption 7 (17%), lexical Assumption 4 (10%) and non-factive Assumption 2 (5%). Based on the results of this research, six types of Assumptions and Assumptions are most often found in this film. Assumption can be informally defined as an inference or a proposition. Its truth is taken for granted in the utterance of sentences. The listener can capture other information apart from the interpretation.

Abstract

Collocation is defined as a combination of words in a language, which occurs very often and more often than happens by chance. The aims of this study were to find out What are the types of collocations that used in the film entitled "Rambo: Last Blood" by Adrian Grunberg? And to To find out the dominant type of collocation in the collocation of the film entitled: "Rambo: Last Blood " by Adrian Grunberg. This study used a qualitative descriptive method would use to analyze data which is a collocation contained in the film's subtitle. The data source in this study is the subtitled transcript of the film “Rambo: Last Blood “by Adrian Grunberg, which was taken from the translation of the Netflix application. The data in this study are English collocations contained in the film subtitle “Rambo: Last Blood” and its translation into Indonesian in the form of phrases. From the result we can be seen that the maximum percentage is 70% and the minimum percentage is 30% and it can be concluded that the dominant type of collocation results in the collocation of the film entitled: "Rambo: Last Blood" by Adrian Grunberg is Lexical Collocation with a presentation result was 70%. So the dominant collocation that used in of the film entitled: "Rambo: Last Blood" by Adrian Grunberg is Lexical Collocation (70%) because showed the significant precentence.

Abstract

Language Style is the formal construct of the language used to communicate with other people. This study aims to analyze the types of language styles used and the dominant type used in “Maleficent 2: Mistress of Evil” movie. The source of the data was taken from the script of “Maleficent 2: Mistress of Evil” movie. The research design is descriptive qualitative research. The analysis is based on the five language styles adopted from Martin Joos’ (1976) theory; they are frozen style, formal style, consultative style, casual style and intimate style. The result shows 77 data, there are 11 frozen styles, and 5 formal style. 35 casual relationships, 10 consultative styles, and 11 intimate styles. It means, that the Casual language style is the most dominant type of language style in the movie Maleficent 2 (2019) because the movie Maleficent is a movie that tells the relation between good mother and daughter is so warm and tries to reconcile the two kingdoms, where almost conversation in the use of informal language and share about the relationship between all the character.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the kind of impoliteness strategies that netizens comment on the Deddy Corbuzier Podcast and to find the most dominant type of impoliteness strategies that netizens use in comments on Deddy Corbuzier's podcast. Since the data for this study were gathered in the form of word sentences, a descriptive qualitative approach was used to conduct it. The data used in this study were gathered from a podcast by Deddy Corbuzier. based on the findings, it can be concluded that in the comments column of Deddy Corbuzier's podcast account, Four types of impoliteness strategies are Bald on Record Impoliteness (1,16%), and Positive Impoliteness (67,44%). It consists of 43,02% where the readers use taboo words, 15,11% calling out other people’s names, and 9,30% case of be unconcerned, disinterested, and unsympathetic. Negative Impoliteness (29,06%), it consists of 12,79% the action condescending, 13,95% scorning or ridiculing the other and 2,32% of fearing the other. And Sarcasm/Mock Politeness (2,32%) and the total of comments is 85 comments. based on the comments that have been analyzed, the researcher concluded that netizens mostly use positive impoliteness, It was found in 58 cases (67,44%) out of 85 comments. It consists of 38 cases where the readers use taboo words, 13 call out the other people’s names and 8 case of be unconcerned, disinterested, and unsympathetic. The majority of netizens use the where the readers use taboo words, it found in 38 cases. Positive Impoliteness is mostly used in the comment column of the Deddy Corbuzier podcast account.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk bertujuan untuk mengetahui Pengaruh Penggunaan Media Viddeo Transaksi Jual Beli Terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Teks Negosiasi Oleh Siswa-siswi Kelas X SMA Kristen Hosana Medan Tahun Pembelajaran 2022/2023. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif eksperimen dengan desain penelitian two grup pretest dan posttest design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X dengan jumlah 40 orang dan yang menjadi sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas X-IIS sebanyak 20 siswa dan X-MIA sebanyak 20 siswa yang ditentukan dengan teknik sampel jenuh. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah uji normalitas menggunakan uji F, uji homogenitas dan uji hipotesis. Setelah dilakukan penelitian pada kelas kontrol pretes dan posttest, diperoleh nilai rata-rata pretest yaitu 57,6 dengan simpangan baku 8,35 dan nilai rata-rata pada posttest yaitu 59 dengan simpangan baku 9,16. Sedangkan penelitian kelas eksperimen pretes dan posttest, diperoleh nilai rata-rata pretest yaitu 59.4 dengan simpangan baku 9,10 dan nilai rata-rata pada posttest yaitu 80,2 dengan simpangan baku 8,15. Dari hasil pengujian hipotesis dalam penelitian ini dilakukan uji “t” pada taraf signifikan ⍺ =0,05, diperoleh thitung > ttabel (8 > 2,086), dengan demikian bahawa H0 ditolak, dan Ha diterima. Hasil uji prasyarat data pretest dan posttest menyatakan sampel berdistribusi normal dan homogen. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh Penggunaan Media Viddeo Transaksi Jual Beli Terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Teks Negosiasi Oleh Siswa-siswi Kelas X SMA Kristen Hosana Medan Tatun Pembelajaran 2022/2023.

Abstract

Abstract This study emphasizes how difficult it is for students to formulate and arrange their thoughts in descriptive writing, as well as how little teachers focus on their understanding of the content they are teaching. The goal of the study is to examine how pupils in the tenth grade have improved their writing abilities. By using pictures in conjunction with visual aids. Using qualitative information was obtained by means of classroom observations. The subjects of this study are the sixth semester English Department Education students at HKBP Nommensen University, who are given visual assistance in the form of graphics to help them write better. The results show that when pictures are used creatively and positively, students write with greater engagement, drive, and originality, which produces compositions that are noticeably better. The major areas of emphasis are the significance of visual aids in helping students' writing learning processes and the efficacy of creative teaching tactics. The significance of a mixed-methods approach for a thorough comprehension of pedagogical interventions in education is emphasized in this essay. The study highlights the necessity of creative pedagogical techniques in educational situations while offering profound insights into the function of pictures as stimuli in improving students' writing abilities. The ramifications of these research findings further highlight how important it is to use visual aids in the classroom, since they greatly improve the caliber of instruction. Abstract

This research aims to identify the reading comprehension difficulties faced by eleventh-grade students and how to solve the students' reading comprehension difficulties. This research uses mixed methods with an explanatory sequential design to collect data, both quantitative and qualitative. They are reading tests to collect quantitative data and interviews to collect qualitative data. Twenty students from SMKN 1 Lolomatua participated in obtaining quantitative and qualitative data. The research results showed that 76,25% of students experienced difficulty in making conclusions. Second, 44.3 % of students had difficulty determining the main idea. Third, 68,3 % of students have difficulty interpreting vocabulary. Fourth, 45 % of students found it difficult to identify references. Fifth, 52 % of students had difficulty detailing information. Then, four are the strategies to solve students' difficulties in reading comprehension. They are students who have to read a lot of English books, master the vocabulary, and find synonyms and antonym words. For pronunciation, students can use smartphone applications.

Abstract

In writing skills, learners would be able to put their feelings, ideas, arguments, willingness, and their minds into words, sentences, and even stories. The aims of this study are to identify the students’ grammatical, and mechanical errors, and dominant errors and to figure out the factors that caused the grammatical and mechanical errors made by first-grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Amandraya in writing recount text. The method of this research is qualitative descriptive text. The subject of research is first grade accounting of SMK Negeri 1 Amandraya and object was grammatical and mechanical errors. The samples in this study was be first-class accounting 24 students who are learning English subject at SMK Negeri 1 Amandraya. The result of this research based on grammatical errors was 141 errors, based on the mechanical error were 9 errors, the dominant error in writing recount text were misinformation 48%. Some factors that lead to the error because of limited of vocabulary, lack interest of learning English subject, and not mastering tenses, using of punctuation.

Abstract

Speaking is one way that people can communicate with each other. Speaking is the medium of transaction between speaker and listener. The objectives of this research are 1) to find out the implementation of High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) integrated with the Tiktok Application, and 2) to know the students’ responses toward the implementation of HOTS with the integration of the Tiktok Application. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was conducted by integrating High Order Thinking Skills with Tiktok Application to the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Alasa. The sample of this research is the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Alasa in the Academic Year 2023/2024. The result of the test showed that the students’ mean score on speaking skills in, the pre-test was 61.7, in the second cycle the mean score was 70.4, in the last cycle the mean score was 82.6. It showed that there is a significant mean improvement among cycles. The result of this research also shows that the students’ responses after being taught by using High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) and TikTok applications are positive. It is suggested that teachers use the TikTok Application as an alternative to teaching speaking skills to the students in Senior High School to improve students’ speaking skills.
