Abstract

Increasing Rice is a crucial food crop that significantly contributes to the food security of farming households. This study aims to determine farmers' income from rice farming in Maro Sebo District, Muaro Jambi Regency. Additionally, it seeks to determine the income generated from other farming enterprises outside of rice farming in the same district. The research assesses the contribution of rice farming income to farmers' overall income in Maro Sebo District, Muaro Jambi Regency. Conducted between June and July 2024, this research focuses on rice farmers in the area. The observed variables include rice farming and other agricultural businesses, such as oil palm and rubber farming, as well as non-agricultural activities or labor. Data sources consist of both secondary data and primary data collected through questionnaires. A simple random sampling technique resulted in 42 rice farmer samples. The analysis method used is descriptive. The findings reveal that the income from rice farming is the lowest compared to other agricultural activities. Oil palm farming represents the highest income, followed by rubber farming. The lowest income is derived from non-agricultural work (labor). The analysis results show that rice farming income contributes only 4.54 percent to the total income of farmers in Maro Sebo District, Muaro Jambi Regency.

Abstract

Agricultural extension plays a crucial role in enhancing farmers’ capacity to adopt cultivation technologies, thereby improving productivity and ensuring the sustainability of farming systems, including watermelon production. This study aims to examine the effectiveness and achievement of watermelon agricultural extension activities in Jetis Village, Nusawungu Sub-district, Cilacap Regency. The research population consisted of 187 watermelon farmers who were members of farmer groups, from which 50 respondents were selected using a stratified random sampling method. Data were collected through observations, individual and group interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The effectiveness of extension activities was assessed based on the level of adoption of thirteen watermelon cultivation technology packages, including the use of improved seeds, planting techniques, crop maintenance, fertilization practices, pest and disease control, pesticide use, post-harvest handling, processing of watermelon products, communication language, training activities, farmer guidance and motivation for land expansion, and market information dissemination. The results indicate that the effectiveness of watermelon agricultural extension in Jetis Village falls into the very effective category, with an average interval score of 60.76, indicating that extension activities have been successfully implemented in accordance with the recommended technology packages from cultivation to marketing stages. Furthermore, the achievement of extension implementation is also classified as very effective, with an average interval score of 61.58, reflecting the extension agents’ ability to deliver extension materials clearly, communicatively, and in a manner that is easily understood by farmers, thereby encouraging the optimal adoption of watermelon cultivation technologies.

Abstract

Chili is a strategic agribusiness commodity in Indonesia with high economic value, mainly processed products such as chili sauce. Sambal Bu Sandra is a micro-entrepreneur producing instant chili sauce and has utilized the Shopee e-commerce platform since 2016. However, amidst the increasing trend of chili sauce consumption, this brand faces challenges in optimizing digital marketing and intense competition. This study aims to formulate an optimal digital marketing strategy to improve Sambal Bu Sandra's sales performance on Shopee. The method used is a SWOT analysis, which includes the preparation of IFAS and EFAS matrices to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The analysis results show that the business is in quadrant I in the IE matrix, which reflects strong internal conditions and significant external opportunities. The resulting strategies include collaborative product development, optimization of Shopee features (such as Shopee Live and Shopee Ads), digital campaigns based on customer reviews, and adoption of a pre-order system. This study concludes that SWOT integration can provide strategic recommendations based on actual business conditions, which, if applied consistently, can potentially strengthen the brand's position in a competitive digital market.

Abstract

The large number of small-scale farmers presents a significant barrier to agricultural development, particularly in plantation commodities that require effective and adaptive farming management practices. The utilization of superior local varieties is essential for sustaining productivity and averting failures in the tobacco industry under these conditions. This study analyzed the performance of tobacco farming among small-scale farmers utilizing superior local varieties in Wangon District, Banyumas Regency. The research was carried out between January and May 2025, utilizing a survey methodology. Seventy tobacco farmers with land areas of less than 0.5 hectares were selected purposefully. Data were collected via interviews and field observations and subsequently analyzed descriptively. The findings indicate that tobacco farming typically serves as a supplementary activity alongside their main occupation of rice farming. Many large farmers possess over 20 years of agricultural experience and exhibit comparatively low levels of formal education. The primary local superior varieties used are the Genjah Kenanga and Genjah Bojong varieties. The average productivity of dry tobacco was 868 kg/ha, with a selling price of Rp 70,000/kg, resulting in an average income of Rp 9,285,000/ha per planting season. Farmers select local superior varieties due to their shorter lifespan, ease of maintenance, adaptability to local environmental conditions, and provision of more stable market access and pricing. The findings suggest that local superior varieties may enhance tobacco farming for smallholder farmers.

Abstract

Farmers in Gunungkidul face two opposing sides: the vulnerability faced due to the harsh environment, and the extraordinary resilience in dealing with it. Located on karst slopes with barren soil and minimal water, they face great challenges in maintaining agricultural sustainability. Long and intense dry seasons often threaten crop yields. The karst landscape in Kapanewon Tanjungsari offers unique challenges and opportunities for agroforestry farming communities. The Tanjungsari karst landscape is faced with serious challenges related to the vulnerability and resilience of its livelihoods. The purpose of this study is to identify factors that influence community resilience and measure the level of vulnerability of agroforestry farmers. The approach taken in this study uses the Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI) approach, which is an approach from an index used to measure the level of vulnerability of a group or community to various risks or threats related to livelihoods and agroforestry practices carried out. The results showed that Ngestiharjo Village's Exposure level was lower than that of other villages, Hargosari Village's Sensitivity level was lower than that of other villages, and Ngestiharjo Village's Adaptation Strategy was higher than that of other villages. Overall, Ngestiharjo Village's LVI is better than Hargosari Village and Kemadang Village.

Abstract

Lemons (Citrus limon) have considerable potential for further development in Indonesia, although the country still relies on imports to meet its domestic demand. This study aims to analyse the feasibility of lemon farming from technical and financial perspectives, as well as its sensitivity to fluctuations in input and output prices. The research employed a descriptive method using a case study approach on a lemon farmer in Sukamulya Village, Cihaurbeuti District, Ciamis Regency. Technical feasibility was assessed using the Crop Management guidelines issued by APNI Kheti. Financial feasibility was evaluated using four investment criteria, namely Net Present Value (NPV), Net Benefit–Cost Ratio (Net B/C), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Payback Period (PP), complemented by sensitivity analysis. The results indicate that, from a technical perspective, lemon farming achieved a conformity level of 61.29% with the Crop Management standards issued by APNI Kheti. Financial feasibility analysis shows a positive NPV of IDR 3,733,653,738, a Net B/C of 4.85, an IRR of 22.80%, and a payback period of 5 years and 8 months. Sensitivity analysis reveals that a 25% increase in labour costs and a 40% decrease in the selling price of lemons reduce the values of NPV, Net B/C, IRR, and PP; however, these indicators remain within acceptable limits, indicating that lemon farming remains financially feasible for further development.
