Abstract

Climate change in Indonesia presents serious challenges due to deforestation, land degradation, and increasing greenhouse gas emissions from the forestry sector. As a country with the third largest tropical forest in the world, Indonesia needs an adaptive strategy that is not only able to reduce emissions, but also strengthen people's welfare. Agroforestry is considered a potential solution that supports the implementation of REDD+ schemes to achieve the 2030 NDC targets. This study aims to analyze the role of agroforestry in strengthening climate resilience while exploring its integration with REDD+ governance in Indonesia. A qualitative approach with a case study design was used through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation studies in forest villages in Kalimantan and Sumatra. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis techniques with source triangulation to ensure the validity of the findings. Research has found that agroforestry systems are able to improve soil quality, absorb higher carbon than monocultures, and support farmer income diversification by up to 20–30%. The integration of agroforestry with REDD+ governance also increases community participation and strengthens local institutions. However, limited funding, technical capacity, and governance transparency remain challenges. The study's recommendations include strengthening carbon incentives, building community capacity, and more participatory and equitable management of REDD+. Agroforestry has proven to function not only as a technical mitigation strategy, but also as a socio-economic instrument that strengthens climate resilience and supports the sustainability of REDD+ governance in Indonesia.

Abstract

The Muslim fashion industry is one of the creative sectors with rapid growth in the ASEAN region, along with the increase of the Muslim middle class, internet penetration, and halal lifestyle trends. Digital transformation through e-commerce is a key catalyst that allows local brands to expand their market reach to the regional level. However, this dynamic also presents challenges in the form of cross-border regulations, logistical barriers, low digital literacy, and global competition. This study aims to analyze the transformation of the local Muslim fashion industry through e-commerce in ASEAN by emphasizing the driving and inhibiting factors, local brand adaptation strategies, as well as economic, socio-cultural, regulatory, and technological implications. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-comparative design. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with industry players, questionnaires open to consumers, and digital observations of marketplaces and social media of Muslim fashion brands in Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and Thailand. Data analysis was carried out using thematic analysis techniques and source triangulation. The findings of the study show that e-commerce is driving the significant growth of the local Muslim fashion industry, with the main adaptation strategies in the form of omnichannel marketing, influencer collaboration, culture-based storytelling, and sustainable fashion innovation. The main barriers include logistics issues (35%), cross-border regulation (30%), digital literacy (20%), and global competition (15%). Digital transformation has proven to have implications for increasing market access, strengthening ASEAN Muslim identity, and the need for harmonization of halal regulations and digital technology integration.

Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has driven significant transformation in the public service sector, especially through the implementation of chatbots. Traditional public services often face obstacles in the form of response delays, limited human resources, and low efficiency of information distribution. AI-based chatbots come as innovative solutions that offer speed, accuracy, and service availability on an ongoing basis. This research aims to analyze the role of AI chatbots in improving the quality of public services in the digital era, as well as identify the challenges and accompanying policy implications. The focus of the research is directed at how chatbots can increase public satisfaction, shorten response times, and ensure the accuracy of the information conveyed. The research method used is a qualitative approach with literature review and secondary data analysis from survey results and previous research reports. Data were analyzed through descriptive and visualization techniques using bar charts, circles, and horizontal graphs to illustrate community satisfaction, information accuracy, response time, and implementation challenges. The results show that AI chatbots are able to accelerate public service response times up to 75% faster than manual services, with an information accuracy rate of up to 60% in the high category. The level of public satisfaction also tends to be positive, with the majority of respondents feeling satisfied to very satisfied. However, the main challenges still faced include data privacy issues, public trust, technical integration, and ethical-legal aspects. This research confirms that the implementation of chatbots requires holistic policy support in order to become a strategic instrument in digital public service reform

Abstract

The post-pandemic transition brought significant changes in the higher education system, with hybrid learning becoming the dominant model. However, its impact on the psychological well-being of students has not been comprehensively explored. This study aims to analyze the influence of the intensity and configuration of hybrid learning on the dimensions of students' psychological well-being, as well as identify moderator factors such as digital literacy and belonging. The study uses a quantitative approach with an explanatory survey design. A sample of 250 students was selected through proportional stratified random sampling. The research instruments were questionnaires based on Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scales (RPWB) and the hybrid learning intensity scale. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, Pearson correlation, and thematic analysis from semi-structured interviews. The results showed that offline presence had a significant effect on the dimensions of positive relations and self-acceptance, while asynchronous involvement contributed to autonomy and personal growth. Online synchronous sessions strengthen purpose in life and academic engagement. Digital literacy has been proven to increase environmental mastery, while a sense of belonging strengthens purpose in life and positive relationships. These findings confirm that a balanced hybrid learning design, supported by digital literacy and community building strategies, plays an important role in improving students' psychological well-being in the post-pandemic transition period.

Abstract

Plastic pollution has become one of the most serious environmental challenges of the 21st century, with more than 11 million tons of plastic entering the oceans each year. Efforts to form the Global Plastic Treaty are expected to be a multilateral instrument that is able to systematically reduce plastic pollution. However, the conference, which took place in 2024–2025, failed to reach a consensus due to the tug-of-war between developed countries, developing countries, the plastics industry, and civil society organizations. This study aims to analyze the factors that cause the failure of the global plastics treaty conference, assess its implications for developing countries, and provide recommendations for alternative policy strategies for the Global South countries. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. Data were collected through documentation studies of official conference documents, reports of international organizations, academic articles, as well as semi-structured interviews with sources from academics, diplomats, and environmental activists. The analysis was carried out using thematic analysis techniques and source triangulation. The results show that the failure of the global plastics agreement is triggered by differences in fundamental interests, the dominance of the industry lobby, and the weak consensus mechanism. By implication, developing countries bear greater environmental and socio-economic burdens, such as increasing marine pollution, vulnerability to informal workers recycling, and limited access to environmentally friendly technologies. The recommendations offered include the formation of a South-South diplomacy coalition, strengthening domestic capacity, and innovative financing mechanisms such as green bonds or plastic taxes.

Abstract

The revision of the TNI Law in 2025 has caused a polemic because it is considered to be carried out behind closed doors and has the potential to restore the practice of military dual functions. This raises concerns about the weakening of democratic principles and civil supremacy in post-reform Indonesia. This study aims to (1) analyze the practice of closed legislation in the revision process of the TNI Law, (2) evaluate the potential return of military dualism in the civilian sphere, and (3) examine public perception of the implications of the revision on democracy. The research uses a qualitative approach with a normative-empirical design. Data was collected through analysis of legal documents, interviews with academics and civil society activists, and online surveys of the general public. The triangulation technique was used to test validity, while the data analysis was carried out by the content analysis and thematic analysis methods. The results of the study show that the process of revising the TNI Law takes place with minimal transparency, with 67% of survey respondents considering the process to be not open. In addition, certain clauses in the revised draft open up opportunities for the involvement of the TNI in strategic civilian positions, which is considered a form of dual functional restoration. As many as 64% of respondents believe that the revision will restore the dual role of the military. These findings show the potential for democratic regression and democratic backsliding in Indonesia, and underscore the urgency of civil society surveillance to ensure that civil supremacy is maintained.

Abstract

The phenomenon of waving the Jolly Roger flag from the anime One Piece during non-violent protests in Indonesia marks a crossroads between global popular culture and domestic political expression. This symbol is not only understood as a form of criticism of the government, but also as an expression of love for the homeland that chooses a symbolic path over physical confrontation, quickly spreading through social media and international coverage. This study aims to map the socio-political meaning of the One Piece flag in Indonesian protests, assess the relationship between pop culture symbols, authorities' responses, and public perceptions of the legitimacy of non-violent protests, and determine the effectiveness of political communication policies in the digital era. The research method uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, including semiotic analysis, critical discourse analysis, in-depth interviews, and digital netnography of social media content and international news. The results show that the One Piece flag functions as an alternative political communication medium rich in connotative meaning, sparking solidarity among the younger generation, and creating a collective imagination about the struggle against injustice. Digital virality through hashtags and political memes strengthens the resonance of this symbol, while opening up a space for transnational solidarity. Popular cultural symbols have proven to be an effective strategy for nonviolent political participation, while also challenging the state to be more inclusive in responding to the creative political practices of the younger generation. These findings contribute to the literature on pop culture politics, nonviolent political communication, and balanced digital democracy policies.

Abstract

The global climate crisis presents a serious challenge for the younger generation, while climate literacy among Indonesian students remains relatively low. Education is a strategic pathway to increase awareness, attitudes, and commitment to action through the integration of environmental issues into the school curriculum. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Green Education Movement (GEM) in the Merdeka curriculum, measure its impact on climate literacy, student attitudes, and behavior, and identify barriers and opportunities in its implementation. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design in two junior high schools in Cirebon. Participants consisted of six teachers and thirty students selected through purposive sampling. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles & Huberman model, supported by simple descriptive statistical analysis. The findings indicate that schools with integrated environmental practices (waste banks, hydroponics, composting) have higher climate literacy (70% in the high category) than schools that are still limited to theoretical delivery (35% in the high category). Pro-environmental attitudes are stronger when learning is linked to the local context and uses a project-based learning approach. Key barriers include limited teacher training and resources, while opportunities lie in policy support for the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka), the Adiwiyata program, and community engagement. The integration of GEM has the potential to strengthen students' environmental literacy and action, thus becoming a national education strategy in addressing the global climate crisis. Recommendations focus on strengthening teacher capacity, expanding action-based projects, and fostering school-community synergy to build a sustainable green culture.

Abstract

The digital transformation in education brings both opportunities and challenges for students' psychosocial well-being. The increased duration of online learning and the intensity of digital interactions often lead to burnout, decreased engagement, and the risk of cyberbullying. This study aims to map the psychosocial well-being profile of Indonesian students in a digital education system, examine the relationship between academic demands and support resources on burnout and engagement, and compare these trends with international trends. The study used a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design. Quantitative data were collected from 412 junior high and high school students through online questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 20 students. Instruments included the School Burnout Inventory, an engagement scale, and a cyberbullying questionnaire. Data analysis used linear regression, ANOVA, and thematic analysis. Results showed that 38% of students were in the high burnout category, primarily due to synchronous classes lasting more than four hours per day. Student engagement tended to be moderate but decreased significantly in groups with limited digital access. Teacher and peer support was shown to function as a protective factor, reducing burnout and increasing engagement. Cyberbullying was identified in 27% of students as victims and 15% as perpetrators. Compared to international trends, Indonesian students have higher burnout rates and lower engagement. This research emphasizes the importance of digital learning designs that balance academic demands and social resources, as well as the need for digital literacy policies to mitigate psychosocial risks. These results contribute academically to the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model in the context of digital education, as well as practical recommendations for schools and policymakers.
