Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis dan menguji kebenaran hipotesis mengenai pengaruh persepsi atas Gaya Belajar dan Penguasaan Kosakata terhadap Pemahaman Teks Recount. Hipotesis penelitian yang diuji meliputi: 1) Pengaruh model Gaya Belajar terhadap Pemahaman Bacaan Teks Recount. 2) Pengaruh Penguasaan Kosakata terhadap Pemahaman Bacaan Teks Recount.3) Pengaruh Gaya Belajar dan Penguasaan Kosakata terhadap Pemahaman Bacaan Teks Recount. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode survei. Populasi adalah siswa kelas X SMA Negeri di Jakarta Selatan dengan besar sampel sebanyak 72 siswa, dengan teknik sampling yang digunakan yaitu random sampling. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan yaitu tes butir soal Pemahaman Bahasa Inggris sebanyak 30 pertanyaan yang telah diuji homogenitasnya dengan besar Sig. = 0,00. Analisis data menggunakan analysis of varians (ANOVA) dua jalur/arah. Hasil pengujian hipotesis diperoleh kesimpulan sebagai berikut: 1) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan persepsi atas gaya belajar terhadap pemahaman Bacaan Teks Recount, hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan Sig. = 0.005 dan Fh = 15.907. 2) Terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan penguasaan kosakata terhadap pemahaman bacaan teks recount siswa SMA Negeri di Jakarta Selatan, hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan Sig. = 0.025 dan Fh = 9.122. 3) Terdapat Pengaruh yang signifikan Persepsi atas Gaya Belajar dan Penguasaan Kosakata terhadap pemahaman Bacaan Teks Recount siswa SMA Negeri di Jakarta Selatan, hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan Sig. = 0.000 dan Fh 10.358. Hasil penelitian ini berguna untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran dan meningkatkan pemahaman Bacaan Teks Recount di tingkat SMA.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze: 1) the use of chain writing method and media picture in English descriptive text learning. 2) the advantages and disadvantages of chain writing method and media picture in English descriptive text learning. 3) the results of the use of chain writing method and media picture in English descriptive text learning. The research method is a case study. The subjects of this research were 5 students. Observation, interview and documentation were used as the instruments of eliciting the data. The results show that: 1) the use of chain writing method and media picture in English descriptive text learning worked well, that was students actively involved in learning corresponding lesson plan. 2) chain writing method and media picture in English descriptive text learning each has its advantages and disadvantages. 3) The implementation by using chain writing method and media picture in English descriptive text learning showed very good results, in cognitive, affective, psychomotor aspects.

Abstract

This research aims to find the use of complex sentences and metaphors in online news article about Covid-19 in Asia Times. This research employs descriptive qualitative approach to examine five online news articles about Covid-19 in Indonesia containing complex sentences and seven news articles about Covid-19 in Indonesia containing metaphors posted in Asia Times. The writer uses the Verspoor’s and Azar’s theories to examine complex sentences and Lakoff and Johnson’s conceptual metaphor theory to examine metaphors. The result shows that in 5 news articles writing the authors used 115 complex sentences and 40 or (34.8%) of which are modified by noun clauses, 36 sentences (31.3%) are modified by adjective clauses, 32 sentences (27.8%) are modified by adverbial clauses, and 7 sentences (6.1%) are modified by multiple subordinate clauses. This implied that teachers should emphasize on the use of noun clauses in complex sentences when teaching writing. Secondly, the result demonstrates that in seven news articles the authors used 95 metaphors categorized into three types of metaphors: 64 or 67.3% are ontological metaphors, 16 or 16.8% are orientational metaphors, and 15 or 15.9% structural metaphors. In addition, this implied that teachers should be aware of the use of metaphors in various reading text genres specifically online articles.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of parenting, critical thinking skills, and English learning achievement together. The research method used was a survey, with a total sample of 60 people in Junior High School. Data collection uses a questionnaire. Data analysis carried out gave results: 1) Parenting and critical thinking skills together positively and significantly influenced English learning achievement. The formed regression equation is  = 31,689 + 0,252X1 + 0,244X2; with a regression significance of Sig. 0,000 < 0.05 and Fh = 9,049. 2) Parenting pattern has a positive and significant influence on English learning achievement; this is shown by the value of Sig 0,026 < 0,05 dan the = 2,285. 3) Critical thinking has a positive and significant influence on English learning achievement. This is shown from the value of Sig 0,035 < 0,05 dan the = 2,166. Keywords: parenting pattern: critical thinking: English: study.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze and describe critical discourse on text elements and social cognition on learning interest in online news texts during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia on The Jakarta Post website. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. This study uses Teun Van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis theory, namely text analysis and social cognition. The results show that the three analyzed texts show that the macrostructure of The Jakarta Post uses appropriate and representative themes, as well as the superstructure uses neutral headlines. Microstructure analyzes the semantic, syntactic, stylistic, and rhetorical elements that present their meaning directly without prologue at the semantic level, and at the syntactic level, it uses an appropriate and systematic structure of subject or noun combinations, as well as the style of language used is simple. Whereas in the social cognition element, there is the ideology of The Jakarta Post journalists in producing a discourse in news texts. From the three news reports, the pro-government journalists can be seen from all the decisions made by the government towards schools, parents, and students regarding interest in learning during the COVID-19 pandemic which was dominated by the government in the text. In this case, students' interest in learning was low during the pandemic. This was due to the power of government and the ideology of The Jakarta Post journalists so that the COVID-19 pandemic became a top priority, no longer a learning interest or maximizing education.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know 1) Types of moral aspects contained. 2) The dominant moral aspect is found. 3) Correlation of morality aspects with a sociological approach to literature. The research method used to analyze this film is a qualitative method that contains two elements, namely intrinsic elements in characters and characterizations as in morals through the approach of literary sociology. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that 1) There are 7 moral aspects found in the “Ferdinand” film based on Michelle Borba's theory, namely Empathy, Conscience, Self-Control, Respect, Kindness, Tolerance, Justice. 2) The dominant moral aspects found were kindness (11 data), empathy (6 data), conscience (5 data), and self control (5 data). 3) the correlation of morality aspects with the approach of literary sociology, both of which highlight the conditions and social problems that are taking place in social life.

Abstract

Abstract: The research was conducted to analyze stylistic pragmatic of figurative language and speech acts in Queen's songs on A Night at The Opera. The method of study is descriptive analysis. The result shows that: 1) there are six kinds of figurative language Metaphor 14 times, hyperbole 40 times, personification 19 times, simile three times, metonymy once, and synecdoche. The most dominant type of figurative language is hyperbole, which occurs 40 times. 2) 3 types of speech acts occur in this song: 12 songs, which are those 20 lines of lyrics are considered imperatives. However, there are only a few lyrics using interrogative and the rest using exclamative. 3) There are four occurrences of illocutionary acts found in the song. They are representatives, directives, commisive, and verdictives. Representative is dominant—perlocutionary acts with 14 times of occurrences. Directive occurs three times. Verdictive occurs in a relatively small number, two occurrences. The lowest type of illocutionary act is commisive as it occurs only once. Abstract

The purposes of this research are to find out the simultaneously influences of parents’ active participation and learning discipline towards students English learning achievement, to find out the influence of parents’ active participation towards students English learning achievement and to find out  the influence of learning discipline towards students English learning achievement. The reseach method that used is survey. The samples are 87 students who chosen randomly from all students of VII level of MTS Negeri at Cipayung Sub – Distric, East Jakarta.  The data collection are carried out by distributing quisioner. The data analysis use descriptive method, pearson multiple correlation coefficient, determination coefficient, regression analysis. The statistic test is used Fcount and Tcount. This research is implemented on April 30 th  till Mei 18th 2018. The results of this research draw: (1) Parents’ active participation and learning discipline simultaneously have positive and relevant influences towards students English learning achievement with multiple correlation coefficient r = 0,524. Parents’ active participation and learning discipline simutaneosly distribute 27,4% towards students English learning achievement through  significant multiple regression equation  = -13,777 + 0,471 X1 + 0,360 X2  with sig score 0,000 < 0,05 dan Fcount = 20.879 ; (2) Parents’ active participation has a relevant influence towards students English learning achievement. It is proven by getting sig score 0,000 < 0,05 and tcount = 4,525; (3) Learning disciple has a significat influence towards students English learning achievement. Abstract: This research aims to analyze the educational value and teaching strategy in the “Freedom Writer” film by Richard Lagravenese. Based on the theories of educational value and teaching strategies, there are four primary points to analyze: 1) How is Educational Value in ‘Freedom Writer Film’ by Richard Lagravenese? 2) What are the Teaching Strategies in ‘Freedom Writer Film’ by Richard Lagravenese? 3) There are eleven kinds of educational value that appear in “Freedom Writer” by Richard Lagravenese based on Linda, they are honesty, courage, peace-ability, self-reliance and potential, self-discipline and moderation, loyalty and dependability, respect, unselfishness, and sensitivity, kindness & friendliness, justice and mercy, and love. 4) There are five kinds of teaching strategies that appear in Richard Lagravenese based on Brown; they are content-based instruction, theme-based instruction, experiential learning, episode hypothesis, and task-based teaching.Keywords: educational value, teaching strategy, film.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to shows how the women representation and psychopathic reconstruction in the “Gone Girl” film. The technique of collecting data is observing the film then captured some of the images in the scene that was found the element of a sign that women representation women and reconstruction of a psychopath. The data that was already collected then analyzed in order with the methods narrative. The conclusions of this study, in the Gone Girl movie, show signs that women representation and psychopathic reconstruction, that women are strong and able to resist, intelligent and able to think and can do anything if they disturb them, unlike women who are usually graceful and charming. Keywords: woman representation; psychopathic; film analysis.
