Abstract

Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) is a symptom of someone considering themselves superior to others, thirsting for praise from others, and having little or no empathy for others. we can use the acronym SPECIAL ME to remember the nine traits of NPD: Sense of self-importance, Preoccupation with power, beauty, or success, Entitled, Can only be around important people, Interpersonally exploitative for their gain, Arrogant, Lack empathy, Must be admired, Envious of others or believe that others are envious of them. Many psychoanalytically oriented clinicians consider it a product of the current era and value system (A. W. Lestari, 2023). The research method used in this study is qualitative. The approach used in this study is phenomenological. Phenomenology; seeks to uncover, study, and understand phenomena and their unique contexts experienced by individuals to the level of beliefs of the individual concerned (Fadli, 2021). This study analyzes the transcript data of the debate between Trump and Harris using a content analysis design. According to Holsti, the content analysis method is a technique for concluding by objectively, systematically, and generally identifying various specific characteristics of a message (Astuti et al., 2023). The data source used is the script of the US presidential campaign debate between Donald Trump and Kamila Harris. From 110 data collected, 64 of Donald Trump's statements contain elements of a lack of empathy and arrogance. 47 data of Donald Trump's statements contain an exaggerated sense of self-importance, a need for admiration, Preoccupation with power, beauty, or success, Entitled, Arrogant, and Must be admired. This tendency can be seen in Donald Trump's statements during the presidential debate with Kamala Harris, either in answering questions from the host or responding to statements from Kamala Harris.

Abstract

To enhance students' abilities and knowledge at SMP N 23 Medan, optimizing school literacy culture is crucial. Integrating literacy into the curriculum through activities like reading, essay writing, and discussions can be a starting point. Engaging and enjoyable literacy activities can boost students' learning motivation and skills. Capacity building for both teachers and students through effective training and workshops is also essential. Collaboration between the school, parents, and the community is key to fostering literacy awareness and creating a supportive environment for developing reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Literacy collaboration activities at SMP N 23 Medan have already yielded positive outcomes, with teachers becoming more adept at literacy strategies and students showing improved skills, exemplified by a student's storytelling performance of "The Legend of Lake Toba and Samosir Island." This demonstrates the effectiveness of collaborative literacy efforts in enhancing educational quality.

Abstract

The translation of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) terms in international trade agreement documents is both interesting and challenging to analyze in translation studies, because translators must understand IPR concepts and convey these terms in the target language appropriately. This research aims to analyze the translation process applied and techniques contained in translating IPR terms in the Indonesia-United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IUAE-CEPA) document. The data in this study are analyzed qualitatively by using a process-oriented approach referring to Nida and Taber (1982), translation techniques were classified based on Molina and Albir (2002) theory to identify the techniques used in translating IPR terms from English to Indonesian. The researcher managed to collect 36 data, 23 in the form of words, 13 in phrases showing that there are five types of intellectual property rights, the dominant appearing are copyright and related rights. Based on the analysis, the results show that the most dominant technique is established equivalence.

Abstract

Kata kunci: komodifikasi, realisme kapitalis, skizoanalisis, Body without Organ

Abstract

Abstract

Umpasa, a Batak Toba poem, is one of the varieties of traditional oral literature owned by the Toba Batak community. During a customary ritual, umpasa is said to be an expression or prayer made to God. Only elders or close relatives who are expressive and rhythmic in their delivery of umpasa are permitted to do so. This serves as a sign that the elders or relatives have a thorough understanding of the customary rite. There are many umpasa that use aquatic lexicons found in Batak umpasa, this is because Bataknese live around Lake Toba, such as Samosir island, North Tapanuli region and 5 others regions. This research aimed to analyse meanings and values of umpasa that use aquatic lexicons found in Batak Toba. Descriptive qualitative methodology was employed in this study by using anthropolinguistic theory which studies the text and performance of oral traditions within the framework of anthropology, studying the cultural context, ideological context, social context, and situational context of oral traditions within the framework of linguistics. This approach is employed due to the fact that the data source under investigation consists of transcripts of speeches collected from documents. The research results illustrate the following. First, Batak Toba umpasa regulates the relationship between man and God, man and man, man and nature. Second, the values found in aquatic lexicons umpasa are religious value, solidarity, commitment, gratitude, hard work, mutual cooperation, welfare value. Key words: umpasa, aquatic lexicons, anthropolinguistics, values

Abstract

There appears to be a steady decline in interest in literary studies, as seen in the significant drop in new student enrollment in the English Literature Study Program at the Fakultas Sastra dan Bahasa, Universitas Kristen Indonesia (FSB-UKI) —from 70 students in 2021 to only 25 in both 2023 and 2024. This trend raises important questions: Why are fewer prospective students choosing literature as their major? What factors influence this shift? Rather than solely speculating on the external, this study turns inward to reflect on what is already happening within the program. It seeks to understand how current students perceive the experience of studying literature in today’s globalized and digitally driven world. The study focuses on three key areas: what students think about the value of literature today, how their views have changed since joining the program, and which parts of their learning feel most meaningful or need improvement. Furthermore, the research aims to ask a deeper and more important question: Is literature still relevant today? If so, as teachers of literature, we need to ask how we can make literature engaging and meaningful again for our younger generations who are now growing up in a digital world. The results of this research will be beneficial not only as a reflection but also as an evaluation tool for the program itself—informing efforts to create a more relevant, dynamic, and engaging literature curriculum that meets the needs of today’s learners while honoring the discipline’s rich cultural and humanistic traditions. In exploring the students’ views, this research makes use of a bilingual open-ended questionnaire to be filled out by students currently studying at the English Literature Study Program at FSB-UKI. By centering student perspectives, this study contributes not only to internal curriculum reflection but also to broader conversations about the future of literary education and its place in shaping cultural and human values in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

English language is acknowledged as a foreign language in Indonesia. Since the nation’s independence, it has been taught in secondary and tertiary education levels and later on, even in primary level, due to increasing demand of the skills in international communication. It was believed that the sooner the language is introduced, the better. Globalization that reduced country borders and gave way to interconnectedness has given more opportunities to the people in the global world, provided that they have English language skill proficiency. How has Indonesia prepared its students in the mastery of the language and how is the teaching of the language in Indonesia? Indonesian secondary and tertiary education institutions need competent teachers to help the students learn the language. This paper will therefore discuss, with the status of English language in Indonesia, how does Indonesia prepare the students for the globalization, in terms of language teaching and because Indonesia is a large country, with a massive number of secondary and tertiary education institutions, how collaboration and innovation in language teaching play important roles in strengthening English language teaching in Indonesia, especially as the country seeks to prepare students for global competitiveness.
