Abstract

This study analyzes the marriage and inheritance legal systems in Brunei Darussalam and compares them with those of Indonesia. Brunei, as an absolute monarchy guided by the Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) ideology, comprehensively integrates Islamic Sharia into its national legal framework based on the Shafi'i school. Using a juridical-normative and comparative approach, this research finds that Brunei’s Islamic Family Law Act (Cap. 217) strictly regulates marriage, divorce, and post-divorce rights, including polygamy regulations that require the Sultan’s permission. In matters of inheritance, the faraidh system is implemented literally without significant modifications. Unlike Brunei, Indonesia—through the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI)—has developed progressive innovations such as mandatory wills for adopted children and substitute heirs. These differences reflect the divergence between Brunei’s conservative-centralistic model and Indonesia’s progressive-pluralistic model, demonstrating that the implementation of Islamic law is largely determined by each country’s sociopolitical context

Abstract

Waterproof lip cosmetic is a popular innovation due to their long-lasting feature. Research indicates waterproof feature often rely on the addition of fluorinated compounds, substances known as carcinogenic to human and can persist in human. This study aims to evaluate exposure to fluorinated compounds through waterproof lip cosmetics usage among women of childbearing age. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive approach with a cross-sectional design, an online survey was conducted from October to December 2023. The study comprised 334 women of childbearing age, including 101 high school students, 127 university students, and 106 bank employees distributed across West Sumatra, Riau, and West Java using consecutive sampling. Data were gathered through a validated multilevel questionnaire covering demographic profiles, product usage frequency, and specific brands. The research shows that majority of respondents use waterproof lip cosmetics (82.3%), with liquid lipstick as the most prevalent product type (75.8%). Most respondents reported using products 1–5 times per week or more. Product composition analysis indicated that coloring agents were the most frequently components as a potential source of fluorinated compound exposure. Based on the survey and compositional analysis, this study concludes that waterproof lip cosmetics represent a potential source of exposure to fluorinated compounds.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic in 2020. Transmission of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) occurs through direct, indirect, or close contact with sufferers. The delta variant is a variant that spreads quickly and causes severe symptoms. Based on data in England, the delta variant of COVID-19 spreads faster in schools, especially in children aged 7 to 11 years. Health problems related to clean and healthy living habits (PHBS) that have not been appropriately implemented can cause health problems, such as worms, diarrhea, and acute respiratory infections in elementary school children. One of the efforts to prevent COVID-19 and health problems in children is implementing PHBS. Researchers use electronic media in the form of educational videos because it has several advantages compared to other media. This study aims to evaluate the effect of educational video on PHBS during the COVID-19 pandemic in grade 3-5 students at SDN 10 Lambung Bukit. This research is a study that uses a pre-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest. This study was held at SDN 10 Lambung Bukit, Padang City, with a total sample of 60 respondents. This study showed that 19 respondents had less PHBS, 16 had enough PHBS, 16 had good PHBS, and 9 had excellent PHBS. After the educational video was broadcast, a change in PHBS results was obtained in the form of an increase to 17 respondents having excellent PHBS, 17 respondents having good PHBS, 16 respondents having enough PHBS, and ten respondents having less PHBS. This study concludes that educational video media affects PHBS in respondents.

Abstract

Frozen Shoulder or Adhesive Capsulitis is a musculoskeletal disorder characterized by pain and limited range of motion of the shoulder joint due to the occurrence of glenohumeral capsule contracture. This condition can lead to a decrease in muscle strength as well as disruption of daily functional activities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Short Wave Diathermy (SWD), and Mobilization With Movement (MWM) in patients with Frozen Shoulder Dextra. The research method used was an analytical descriptive case study with the provision of physiotherapy interventions as many as 4 times of therapy. Evaluation was carried out on the patient's pain, muscle spasms, range of joint motion, muscle strength, and functional activity. The results showed a decrease in pain, reduced deltoid muscle spasm, increased range of motion of the shoulder joint, increased muscle strength, and increased functional activity ability of patients. It can be concluded that the combination of TENS, SWD, and MWM is effective in helping the recovery of shoulder function in patients with Frozen Shoulder Dextra. These findings show that physiotherapy has an important role in improving patients' quality of life through improvements in movement and body function.

Abstract

Background: Dental caries remains a common oral health problem among toddlers. One of the contributing factors is the habit of using feeding bottles or pacifiers, especially during sleep. Mothers’ knowledge regarding the impact of pacifier use on children’s oral health plays an important role in preventing dental caries. This study aimed to determine the relationship between mothers’ knowledge of pacifier-feeding habits and the incidence of dental caries among toddlers at Posyandu Sodamolek Lasiana, Kupang City. Methods: This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design involving 35 mothers of toddlers selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a knowledge questionnaire and an observation sheet for dental caries. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: Most mothers had a moderate level of knowledge (42.9%). The majority of toddlers used pacifiers while sleeping (74.3%), and 62.9% had dental caries. Chi-Square analysis showed a significant relationship between mothers’ knowledge and dental caries incidence (p = 0.021). Conclusion: Mothers’ knowledge is significantly associated with dental caries among toddlers. Oral health education for mothers should be strengthened to support early caries prevention.
