Abstract

Real-time Indonesian sign language recognition faces several challenges, the most prominent of which is the diversity of hand gestures and different expressions. Often, automated systems face difficulties in interpreting these highly variable gestures, which in turn results in decreased recognition accuracy and efficiency. To improve the performance of sign language recognition in this study, the SP-Tree method is proposed, which utilizes a spatial tree structure to group hand gesture data based on spatial and temporal features. This allows for a faster and more accurate sign language recognition process. It is expected that this technique can accelerate sign language recognition with a high level of accuracy and real-time response, which is very important for everyday applications. We used a public dataset covering various hand gestures in Indonesian sign language to test this technique. The results showed that the SP-Tree method had an accuracy of 92 percent, an F1 score of 0.90, and a feature loss of 0.08. Compared with existing conventional sign language recognition techniques, these figures show significant improvements. The results indicate that the SP-Tree method is an effective way to identify Indonesian signs in real-time. This method has the advantage of being able to interpret and group hand gestures more precisely and efficiently, improving the interaction between the user and the system. We hope that this research will help develop assistive technology for people with hearing disabilities. In the future, it will also provide opportunities to use this technique in other sign languages.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly becoming the main driver of digital transformation in various sectors such as education, health, and finance. However, this development raises regulatory challenges, particularly regarding privacy protection, algorithm transparency, and AI usage ethics. Indonesia, with a high level of technology adoption but without a specific legal framework, faces the risk of misuse of this technology. This study uses a literature review and a comparative policy analysis approach to examine AI regulations in the European Union, the United States, and Singapore. The results of the analysis show that the European Union emphasizes data protection and strict supervision, the United States promotes flexibility for innovation, while Singapore offers a balance between social responsibility and technological progress. Based on these findings, this article recommends developing an AI regulatory framework in Indonesia by combining the principles of a risk-based approach, transparency, and algorithmic auditing, as well as the establishment of an independent AI regulatory agency. This regulation is expected to encourage innovation that is safe, ethical, and adaptive to technological dynamics.

Abstract

The security vulnerabilities of the Data Encryption Standard (DES) require innovative enhancements to ensure data protection against modern threats. This study integrates the Blum-Blum-Shub (BBS) pseudorandom number generator with DES to enhance encryption robustness. By leveraging BBS’s randomness, the proposed method strengthens the 16-round block cipher structure of DES, improving security while maintaining computational efficiency. A Java-based desktop application is developed to implement this approach, ensuring data security without cloud reliance. Feasibility testing confirms successful encryption with an average processing time of 2 seconds, demonstrating both security improvements and practical applicability. Comparative analysis reveals that BBS integration enhances unpredictability, making decryption more challenging. The findings suggest that combining DES with BBS provides a viable solution to DES’s limitations. Future research may explore scalability, adaptation to diverse data types, and further optimizations to enhance encryption strategies against evolving cybersecurity challenges.

Abstract

Indonesian people's high interest in South Korea Selatann films and dramas has encouraged local production houses to remake South Korea Selatann box office films, one of which is My Annoying Brother. This study aims to analyze and compare the level of audience satisfaction with the South Korea Selatann version and the Indonesian version based on the Uses and Gratifications theory. The method used is a quantitative approach with a survey of 385 respondents who are followers of the @kdrama_menfess account, which was selected using a purposive sampling technique based on the Lemeshow formula (with a margin of error of 5% and a confidence level of 95%). Data was collected through a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. The results showed that the majority of respondents (83.9%) were more satisfied with the South Korea Selatann version, especially on the emotional aspect, with the highest score on the affective indicator (GO = 13.48). This finding was supported by the significant difference (Z = -14.984; p < 0.001) between the two versions. Comparative analysis also revealed that 21-25 year olds respondents showed a stronger preference for the Korea Selatann version than other groups. The Indonesian version was appreciated for its local cultural adaptation efforts, but lacked in presenting deep emotional intensity, especially in the key scene of the brother-sister relationship. This study suggests more contextualized cultural adaptation strategies, such as the selection of actors who fit the emotional character and the reinforcement of local narratives. The implication is that production houses can consider affective factors and character identification when adapting foreign films to meet the emotional expectations of local audiences.

Abstract

Mental health issues are increasingly gaining attention, with depression being a primary factor linked to high suicide rates caused by psychological disorders. College students are identified as a vulnerable group to depression and anxiety, which can be triggered by various factors. Meanwhile, individuals self-expression on social media, especially on platform X (Twitter), which offers freedom of expression, is considered reflective of one’s mental well-being. This study aims to explore the analysis of college students tweets using a Natural Language Processing (NLP) approach to detect depressive symptoms through linguistic patterns. Data was collected via crawling techniques using keywords such as “depression”, “stress”, and “burnout” resulting in 24,167 tweets from January to March 2025. After data cleaning, 8,308 tweets remained. Sentiment labeling using the Inset Lexicon shows that 68.1% (5,663 tweets) were labeled negative, reflecting college students tendency to use platform X as a medium to express negative emotions. The Random Forest model integrated with TF-IDF feature extraction achieved 87.51% accuracy, demonstrating its capability to address majority class bias (negative) and capture the morphological complexity of informal language. The implications of the research encourage the development of a digital monitoring system for the proactive detection of college college students depression symptoms. The lexicon’s limitations in incorporating informal vocabulary (slang) becomes a recommendation for further research to enhance analysis accuracy.
