Abstract

Malnutrition is a condition in which the body does not receive enough essential nutrients, such as protein, vitamins, calories, and minerals, which causes various health problems, especially wasting and stunting, making it a serious concern in children. According to the Basic Health Research, the prevalence of malnourished children in Indonesia remained stable at 17.8% between 2016 and 2017 but decreased to 13.8% in 2018. This case study focuses on a 23-month-old girl from Kuala Keureuto Village, who was observed for three weeks through home visits in 2025. The diagnosis of malnutrition was made in accordance with national guidelines outlined in the Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2020, regarding child anthropometric standards. Anthropometric measurements showed that the child's height was 78.3 cm and her weight was 8.8 kg. Based on these measurements, her nutritional status was assessed as follows: A height/age Z-score between -2 and -3 SD indicates stunting, a weight/age Z-score between -2 and -3 SD indicates underweight, while a weight/age Z-score below -2 SD and a BMI/age Z-score below -2 SD are considered well-nourished. After confirming the diagnosis, the patient received nutrition education, supplemental feeding, appetite-stimulating supplements, and growth monitoring. In addition, analyses were conducted to identify factors influencing her condition, concluding that the malnutrition observed in this 23-month-old patient was influenced by parenting behavior, parental knowledge, medical history, incomplete immunizations, and environmental factors.

Abstract

Cancer is still one of the leading causes of death in Indonesia and poses a major challenge in the world of health. Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy generally face various psychological problems, one of which is anxiety arising from side effects of therapy, uncertainty of treatment, and deterioration of physical condition. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family support and anxiety levels in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The research design uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional method. The research sample amounted to 40 chemotherapy patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang who were selected using a total sampling technique. The research instruments were in the form of family support questionnaires and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Data analysis was carried out using the Marginal Homogeneity test. The results showed that most patients received family support in the moderate to high category (75%) and experienced mild to moderate levels of anxiety (70%). Based on statistical tests, a value of p = 0.001 was obtained, which showed a significant relationship between family support and anxiety levels in chemotherapy patients. The conclusion of this study confirms that good family support plays an important role in helping patients reduce anxiety during treatment. These findings indicate the importance of active family involvement in accompanying patients, both emotionally, informationally, and instrumentally. Therefore, educational programs involving families are highly recommended to improve the quality of care and support the psychological condition of cancer patients.

Abstract

Anxiety is an emotional response that is commonly experienced by patients before surgery, including in pre sectio caesarean patients. High levels of anxiety can affect the patient's physiological and psychological condition, so appropriate handling efforts are needed. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as prayer dhikr therapy, can be used as an alternative to help reduce anxiety because it provides relaxation, calmness, and increased spirituality. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of dhikr sholawat therapy on anxiety levels in pre sectio caesarean patients. The research design used a quasi-experiment with a pre-test and post-test control group approach. The research sample consisted of pre-sectio caesarea patients who met the inclusion criteria, then divided into two groups, namely the intervention group that was given prayer dhikr therapy and the control group that only received standard treatment. The instrument used to measure anxiety levels is the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Data analysis was carried out by statistical tests according to the distribution of data to find out the difference in results between the two groups. The results showed a significant decrease in anxiety levels in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). These findings prove that prayer dhikr therapy is effective in reducing anxiety in pre-sectio caesarean patients. Thus, this therapy can be recommended as one of the non-pharmacological nursing interventions that support the improvement of service quality and patient comfort.

Abstract

Hypertension is an abnormal increase in blood pressure in the arteries that persists over a period of time. Hypertension is defined as an increase in systolic blood pressure of at least 140 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure of at least 90 mmHg. Symptoms experienced by people with hypertension include dizziness, irritability, ringing in the ears, difficulty sleeping, shortness of breath, heaviness in the neck, fatigue, and blurred vision. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of warm foot baths with salt and recitation of prayers on the blood pressure of patients with hypertension. The method used is quantitative, with a pre-experimental research design using a one-group pre-test-post-test design. Hydrotherapy is performed by soaking the feet in warm water mixed with salt and reciting prayers using 3 liters of warm water at a temperature of 38-40ºC mixed with 15 grams or 3 teaspoons of salt for 15-20 minutes. In addition to warm water foot soaking therapy, it can also be combined with incorporating elements of faith, one form of which is recitation. Sampling was conducted using non-probability sampling techniques. For the sample size in this study, the researcher used the Slovin sample size formula, which is used to calculate the minimum sample size in a finite population with a total sampling approach and 16 respondents. Conclusion: Warm foot bath therapy with salt mixture and recitation has an effect on blood pressure changes in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Pain is one of the main problems that cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy often experience, both as a direct result of the development of the disease and as a side effect of the therapy undergone. Pain that is not handled properly can decrease the quality of life, interfere with daily activities, and negatively impact the patient's psychological state. Therefore, non-pharmacological interventions are important as a companion effort to medical treatment. This study aims to analyze the effect of the combination of Benson relaxation technique and Quranic Healing therapy on the pain level of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. The research uses a quasi experiment design with a nonequivalent control group design approach. The sample size was 36 respondents, divided into intervention groups and control groups, each consisting of 18 respondents. Pain levels were measured with the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) instrument before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test for differences within groups and the Mann–Whitney test for differences between groups. The results showed a significant decrease in pain levels in the intervention group (p = 0.000) compared to the control group (p = 0.046), with a significant difference between the two groups after the intervention (p = 0.001). In conclusion, the combination of Benson relaxation techniques and Quranic Healing has been shown to be effective in reducing pain in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. These interventions can be recommended as an alternative to non-pharmacological nursing measures to improve the comfort and quality of life of cancer patients.

Abstract

Anxiety in patients undergoing preoperative vitrectomy can have a significant impact on biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects, manifesting as increased blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and sleep quality disturbances that can affect physiological and psychological balance. Blood pressure is influenced by the autonomic nervous system, making anxiety and sleep quality important factors related to cardiovascular stability. This study aims to explain the relationship between sleep quality and anxiety with blood pressure in preoperative vitrectomy patients. The research design used was a cross-sectional correlation study involving 108 respondents. The instruments used included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality, the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS) to assess anxiety, and blood pressure measurements before surgery. The analysis used the Spearman test. The results showed that most respondents were in the early elderly age category (34.3%), had a high school education (54.6%), and were employed (57.4%). Most experienced mild sleep disturbances (81.5%) and mild anxiety. The average systolic blood pressure of respondents was 133.50 mmHg (SD 11.569) and diastolic blood pressure was 84.29 mmHg (SD 11.081). Spearman's test showed a relationship between sleep quality and systolic blood pressure (r=0.237; p=0.014) and diastolic blood pressure (r=0.428; p=0.001), as well as between anxiety and systolic blood pressure (r=0.502; p=0.001) and diastolic blood pressure (r=0.326; p=0.001). It was concluded that there was a relationship between sleep quality and anxiety with the blood pressure of patients undergoing preoperative vitrectomy. Nurses are advised to conduct early screening and simple interventions to reduce anxiety and improve the sleep quality of patients

Abstract

Adolescence is a period marked by a tendency to imitate behaviors associated with adulthood, including risky behaviors such as smoking. Smoking is a common habit among adolescents and can have negative long-term effects on health. This study aims to examine the relationship between parental supervision and family history with smoking habits in adolescents in Lemah Putih Village. The study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design and involved 144 adolescents selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were questionnaires on adolescent smoking behavior, the level of parental supervision, and family history of smoking. The results showed that the majority of respondents were in the late adolescent age group (17-20 years) at 51.4%, mostly male (87.5%), and had a high school education level (53.5%). About 50.7% of respondents had a high level of parental supervision, while 61.8% had a family history of smoking. Moderate smoking behavior was found in 45.1% of respondents. Data analysis revealed a significant relationship between parental supervision and adolescent smoking behavior, as well as a connection between family history of smoking and smoking habits in adolescents in Lemah Putih Village. Therefore, strict parental supervision and awareness of family history play an important role in reducing smoking behavior in adolescents. It is expected that the findings of this study will provide insights for parents and relevant parties to pay more attention to supervising their children and reduce smoking habits among adolescents.

Abstract

Menstrual pain is one of the most common health complaints experienced by many women and often interferes with daily activities, both in academic and social contexts. This study aimed to examine the effect of red ginger decoction in relieving menstrual discomfort. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a One Group Pretest-Posttest approach. From a total population of 487 students enrolled in the Diploma III Nursing program, 15 participants were selected using purposive random sampling. The study was conducted over a three-week period, from May 7 to May 27, 2025, using an observation sheet as the research instrument. The initial pain level was measured before the intervention using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Each participant who reported menstrual pain was then given 200 ml of red ginger decoction, and after 30 minutes, pain levels were reassessed to determine any changes. The Shapiro-Wilk test was applied to examine data distribution, while differences in mean scores before and after the intervention were analyzed using the Paired Sample t-Test. The findings showed that the average pain score before treatment was 7.53 and decreased to 5.67 after the intervention, with a mean difference of 1.89. The statistical analysis yielded a significance value of p = 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a meaningful difference. Therefore, it can be concluded that consuming red ginger decoction is effective in reducing menstrual pain intensity. Consequently, red ginger may be recommended as a natural alternative for managing dysmenorrhea, while educational institutions are encouraged to provide health education regarding the use of herbal remedies, particularly red ginger, for menstrual pain relief. Future researchers are expected to use these findings as a reference and further explore other variables in subsequent studie.
