Abstract

In this study, we report a novel azomethine derivatives synthesis (H and G) by reacting pure Gemifloxacin drugs with 2-aminobenzaldehyde and 2-methylbenzaldehyde. Spectroscopic techniques, such as FT‐IR spectroscopy, characterized the derivatives (G and H). All the synthesized derivatives (G and H) were evaluated in vitro against microorganisms such as Bacillus subtilis and E. coli by zone inhibition method and screened for antimicrobial activities and anti-Prostate cancer PC3 cell viability cell lines.

Abstract

Cold Chain Products are pharmaceutical preparations sensitive to temperature, requiring consistently maintained temperature conditions from production, storage, and transportation to the final consumer. Environmental changes, such as temperature fluctuations and direct sunlight exposure, can reduce product quality, leading to the loss of the product's therapeutic potential. Therefore, Pedagang Besar Farmasi (PBF) play a crucial role throughout the distribution chain of cold chain products to ensure that the quality and effectiveness of the products are maintained. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of cold chain product management at a PBF in Tasikmalaya City according to the applicable guidelines, namely the Good Distribution Practices (CDOB). The study employs observation and interview methods, with evaluation using a research tool in the form of a checklist developed based on aspects of cold chain product management according to the 2020 CDOB guidelines. Based on the evaluation of cold chain product management implementation according to CDOB, a PBF in Tasikmalaya City has successfully implemented CDOB aspects well.

Abstract

Using lip balm is very easy to apply to the lips and lip balm can also moisturize and brighten the lips. Lip balm is resistant to body temperature, and is harmless and smooth when applied so that the lips are cared for and healthy. The anthocyanin contained in mulberry fruit has the potential to act as a purplish red natural dye depending on the presentation of the mulberry fruit extract used, which has the positive side of being an antioxidant and scavenger of free radicals. The aim of this research was to determine the formulation and stability of the lip balm preparation formula using mulberry fruit extract (Morus alba L.) as a natural coloring with an accelerated stability test using 4 cycles. Using this research method, material testing includes organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, melting point tests, pH tests, spreadability tests, adhesion tests, spreadability tests, stability tests, and hedonic tests, as well as preparation irritation tests. Based on the results of research on making lip balm from mulberry fruit extract as a natural coloring, it can be formulated in lip balm preparations, however if 20% extract is used it can affect the physical properties of the lip balm preparation, neither the 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% formulas. irritation was found.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus represents a persistent metabolic dysfunction marked by elevated blood glucose levels attributable to insulin resistance. Geriatrics pertains specifically to individuals aged 60 years and older. Managing diabetes mellitus necessitates intricate therapeutic interventions, often comprising single or combined pharmacological agents aimed at achieving euglycemia. The concurrent administration of multiple medications, termed polypharmacy, amplifies the likelihood of pharmacological interactions. This investigation endeavors to delineate potential drug interactions observed in geriatric inpatients afflicted with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital in Surakarta throughout the calendar year 2023. The study adopted a descriptive observational design employing a cross-sectional approach. Data collection was conducted retrospectively through purposive sampling based on the medical records of geriatric patients at Dr. Moewardi Regional General Hospital in Surakarta. Inclusion criteria encompassed patients aged 60 years and older diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus who had been hospitalized. Exclusion criteria included incomplete or illegible medical records, patients diagnosed with anemia and hemoglobinopathies, and those who expired during treatment. The findings revealed that out of 100 patients, 96 experienced drug interactions. Most patients (47.00%) were aged between 66 and 74 years. Females constituted a larger proportion (51.00%) of the patient cohort. Among hospitalized patients, 83 (83.00%) were admitted for 2-6 days. A total of 70 patients (70.00%) were prescribed between 4 and 13 medications. The predominant severity level of drug interactions was moderate, comprising 1,017 cases (74.60%). Pharmacodynamic mechanisms accounted for most drug interactions observed, totaling 1,054 cases (77.30%).

Abstract

Ajwa date (Phoenix dactylifera L.) from Medina, Saudi Arabia, contains a high carbohydrate content. Dates are commonly recognized to be available in two forms: dried fruit that may be consumed directly and concentrated date juice. Concentrated date juice usually gives an unpleasant taste when consumed and requires a large container for storage. This study aims to formulate the effervescent granules using two combinations of acids, namely citric acid and malic acid as a source of acid and sodium bicarbonate as a source of base. The research process was began with macerating dates with 96% ethanol solvent and making a dry extract. Furthermore, effervescent granule preparations were made in three formulations with the ratio of sodium bicarbonate and acid (citric acid : malic acid) as follows: formulation I = 2.5: (2:1), formulation II = 3: (2:1), formulation III = 3.5: (2:1). The results showed that, each 5g serving size contained 84.41 g of carbohydrate in the form of effervescent granules. In formula I, the test results obtained were pH 4.82, water content 4.14%, flow speed 11.58 g/second, angle of repose 25.36o, and dispersion time 28.91 seconds. Then, in formula II, the test resultedin pH 5.27, water content 3.80%, flow speed 12.39 g/second, angle of repose 26.69o and dispersion time 26.19 seconds. Moreover, the test findings for formula III, were pH 5.76, water content 3.86%, flow speed 11.83 g/second, angle of repose 26.63o and dispersion time 29.55 seconds. The differences between acid and base concentration ratio in the three formulas above affect the physical properties of effervescent granule preparations, with formula II producing the best carbonation of the three.
