Abstract

This meta-analysis investigates the relationship between hope and medication adherence in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Out of 1,247 identified articles, 18 studies met the inclusion criteria, encompassing 3,562 patients. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between hope and medication adherence (r = 0.42, 95% CI: 0.35-0.49, p < 0.001), with notable heterogeneity (I² = 76.4%, Q = 72.03, df = 17, p < 0.001). Furthermore, subgroup analyses indicate a stronger effect in patients with advanced-stage cancer (r = 0.49, 95% CI: 0.39-0.58) compared to those in various earlier stages (r = 0.38, 95% CI: 0.30-0.46, Q = 4.12, df = 1, p = 0.04). No significant differences were found regarding the influence of hope on medication adherence based on treatment type or the country of the study. Additionally, this research extends the findings of DiMatteo et al. (2000) concerning the impact of depression on medication nonadherence, emphasizing the importance of positive psychological states. Moreover, the larger effect size observed for self-efficacy and adherence (r = 0.31) reported by Hall et al. (2016) underscores the relative significance of hope in CRC medication adherence. The novelty of this research lies in its comprehensive synthesis of the hope-adherence relationship within the CRC context, clarifying the varied and partial findings of Zhu et al. (2017) and García-Torres et al. (2016). Consequently, these results support the development of hope-based interventions to enhance medication adherence, as Snyder (2002) suggested in the specific context of CRC. Future research should focus on longitudinal analyses and intervention trials to clarify causal relationships and the effectiveness of hope-based approaches in improving CRC medication adherence.

Abstract

One of the critical elements affecting nurse performance and impacting the quality of nursing services is the implementation of the head nurse's functions. This role must be effectively integrated into the healthcare system to motivate nurses to provide optimal patient care, thereby improving community health quality. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the head nurse's functions and the performance of bedside nurses in the inpatient wards at RSUD Palangka Raya. Method: This study employed a quantitative method with a correlational research type and a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was total sampling, involving 34 respondents. Data collection was performed using a questionnaire, and statistical analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank Correlation test. Results:The results of the Spearman Rank statistical test showed a significance value (2-tailed) of p = 0.00 with a level of significance of p < 0.05, indicating a relationship between the head nurse's functions and the performance of bedside nurses. The correlation coefficient was 0.685, reflecting a high or strong correlation. This positive relationship indicates that as the function of the head nurse improves, the performance of bedside nurses also increases. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, meaning there is a relationship between the head nurse's functions and the performance of bedside nurses. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the head nurse's functions and the performance of bedside nurses. It is recommended that the hospital provide training for head nurses on management functions.

Abstract

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an atopic disease characterized by symptoms of nasal congestion, clear rhinorrhea, sneezing, postnasal drop, and nasal pruritis. The disease affects one in six people and is associated with significant morbidity, loss of productivity, and health care costs. Historically, AR was considered a disease process in the nasal airways only, although it is not serious, allergic rhinitis should be considered as a quite serious condition because it can affect the sufferer's quality of life due to the severity of the symptoms experienced and can also cause various complications. However, the development of integrated airway theory has classified AR as a component of the systemic allergic response, with other related conditions, such as asthma and atopic dermatitis, having an underlying systemic pathology. Even though it is not serious, allergic rhinitis should be considered as a quite serious condition because it can affect the sufferer's quality of life due to the severity of the symptoms experienced and can also cause various complications. In addition to nasal symptoms, patients with AR may also experience allergic conjunctivitis, non-productive cough, Eustachian tube dysfunction, and chronic sinusitis. Once diagnosed, AR can be treated in a variety of ways, with intranasal glucocorticoids being the first line of therapy.

Abstract

Toxoplasma gondi is a pervasive parasite that causes a variety of diseases both in humans and animals, it infects the neural cells of the central nervous system. There have been previous reports linking this infection with Autism. Autism is a combination of complex neurodevelopmental disorders leading to alteration in social communication. This study was done to detect the frequency of seropositive Toxoplasmosis in Autistic children attending psychiatric units in Azady Teaching Hospital in Kirkuk governorate-Iraq. This case-control study was done on 40 Autistic children (30 male, 10 female) with an average age of 5.4±6 years and 40 healthy children (8 male, 32 female) with the same age range (6.1±2) year, from April 2018- January 2020. Sample collection was done by obtaining four ml of blood from all study group children for the detection of both IgM and IgG Toxoplasma gondi antibodies using the ELISA technique. Chi-square and paired T-tests were used for data analysis. The IgM serology for both Autistic and control children was negative while there was just one positive result of T.gondi IgG in Autistic Children and two positive results in normal children which made the result insignificant( X2=0.45, p-value>0.05). Regarding gender, there was no significant difference in detecting positive results between boys and girls of the study groups (X2=0.45 p value> 0.05). The study also demonstrated that Autistic Parents were statistically older than healthy children of the same age. We couldn't uncover any connection between ASD and toxoplasmosis. The age of parents & family history has a significant impact on the development of ASD.

Abstract

Back ground: Autosomal genetic diseases throughout North America are propagated by CF, which is seen in 1 out of 2000 Caucasians. This sickness can in most cases be undetected and is nongendered with a global impact and targets all ages. By the impaired mucocilliary clearance in the trachea and bronchi, and the inability to maintain innate defenses, acute and recurrent bacterial infections, airways obstruction and inflammation and chronic bacterial infections are aggravated. Aim of study: The study aims to isolate and identify bacterial species related to respiratory fibrosis and to do the susceptibility test to those species. Methodology: The study was carried out between January-July 2024, 80 cystic fibrosis patients admitted in Mirjan hospital, 50 came outpatients clinic and 30 found sleeping in the hospital (Eighteen in the respiratory lobbies and 12 in the intensive care unit (ICU)), patient age range between 20-80 years old, and include both gender, 28 females and 52 male.es). By using sterile labeled machines every patient provide sputum that was transported to laboratory directly after collection and stored in 4 C temperatures until culture. All samples of sputum were cultivated for twenty-four hours at 37 degrees Celsius in an incubator utilizing MAConkey and Blood agars. Thereafter, samples were streaked unto several selective and differential media where bacterial colonies matured to reveal their biochemical characteristic after 24hrs of incubation. Results: The current study's results indicated that age has an impact on microbial CF infection. Of the 80 total patients, 9 sample in the age group of 20–30 years had a percentage of 11.25%, while 11 patients in the age group of 31–40 years had a percentage of 13.75%, 16 patients in the age group of 41–50 years had a percentage of 16.25%, and 17 patients in the age group of 51–60 years had a percentage of 21.25%. The current study confirmed that infection rates increase with age. In terms of gender, the study show that males are more likely than females to get infections. with 52 males in the (65%) percentage and 28 females in the (35%), Ten patients are in the 71–80 age range, and twenty patients are in the 61–70 age group. Conclusion: The kind of bacterial strain, the patient's immunological condition, and the usage of contaminated medical equipments are some of the factors that affect transmission. During treatment, all CF patients colonized or infected with the primary pathogens discussed in this article must be kept in a single room to prevent nosocomial dissemination of the microorganism to other patients. Despite the intricacy of the epidemiology of bacterial infections in CF patients, the average lifespan of these individuals continues to increase.
