Abstract

Malnutrition is a severe level of malnutrition due to low consumption of energy and protein from daily food that occurs for quite a long time. Poor nutrition can affect children's growth and development, as well as children's intelligence. At a more severe level, when combined with poor care, poor sanitation, and the emergence of other diseases, malnutrition can lead to death. Data from Karimun district health office, there are 0.9% cases of malnutrition, 0.4% in Karimun sub-district and 1% in West Sei.Lakam sub-district in 2017. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence malnutrition status in toddlers. This study used an analytical survey with a cross sectional approach. This research was conducted in February-July in Sei.Lakam Barat Subdistrict, Karimun Subdistrict, with a population of all mothers who have children aged 0-59 months totaling 869 people. The sampling technique is quota sampling with a total sample of 90 people. The measuring instrument used was a questionnaire which was analyzed univariately and bivariately using the chi-square statistical test at α 0.05. The results showed that there was a relationship between maternal knowledge and nutritional status of children under five (p = 0.047). There is no relationship between maternal education and nutritional status of children under five (p = 0.581). There is a relationship between the economy and the nutritional status of toodlers (p = 0.037). It is recommended that there be continuous health education activities on toddler nutrition for mothers of toddlers so that mothers can provide nutritious food for toddlers

Female teenage have considerable challenges in their developmental tasks. One of the developmental tasks in this period is social adaptation process, gain recognition as members of a new group in their surrounding. Need of acceptance and group conformity made them facing challenges as a female and teenagers. Challenges will arise when they begin to be faced with the mismatch between expectations and demands in standard of beauty which is represented through an assessment of body image. Subjective well-being is a self-evaluation of one's life based on a cognitive evaluation of life satisfaction and an evaluation of affective and positive emotions (Diener, Lucas & Oishi, 2012). The purpose of this study was to eximine the correlation between body image and Subjective WellBeing in female teenagers. This is quantitative study with a correlational survey method, using purposive sampling technique. Data collected from 91 female teenagers at SMAN 4 Batam in tenth grade to twelve grade. Instrument for data collection is Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) and Multidimensional Body- Self Relations Questionnaire-Appearance Scale (MBRSQ-AS) with alpha Cronbach α=.941. Result showed using Product Moment Pearson that body image significantly correlated with Subjective WellBeing at level 0,589 (p <0.05

Abstract

Pregnancy is a physiological condition that every married couple dreams of. A baby who is born healthy and perfect is what every married couple has been waiting for. Waiting for the day of delivery can be a stressful and tiring experience. With the increasingly old gestational age, anything can happen to pregnant women before delivery. The purpose of this study was to determine the factors related to maternal readiness during the 1st stage of labor. This type of research was an analytic survey with a cross sectional design, with a total of 32 women giving birth, the sample was taken using the accidental sampling technique in February-August 2019 in the work area of the Sei Langkai Community Health Center, Batam City. The results of the research were 19 people (59.4%) lacking knowledge. Husband's support was negative as many as 18 people (56.2%). Support for negative health workers was 16 people (50.0%). The readiness of mothers during the first stage of labor was less than 17 people (53.1%). The conclusion of the chi-square test results shows that the p value = <0.05, meaning that there is a relationship between knowledge, support from husbands and support from health professionals on the readiness of mothers to give birth during the 1st stage of labor. Suggestions to respondents to increase their knowledge by seeking information and following health counseling held by health workers related to the readiness of mothers to give birth during the 1st stage of labor.

Abstract

The number of cases of HIV / AIDS sufferers in Tabalong Regency from 2018-2019 has fluctuated. Preliminary interviews with several midwives, most of whom did not know about HIV / AIDS infection and its dangers, only a small proportion (35%) of BPS attended APN training. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between education, knowledge and attitudes of BPS with HIV / AIDS infection prevention measures in childbirth assistance in Tabalong Regency, South Kalimantan Province. Analytical survey research design, observational method with cross sectional study design. The population is all BPS and is active in assisting childbirth, totaling 270 midwives, the sampling method is simple random sampling, a total sample of 60 BPS who actively assist in childbirth. The results showed that 59 (98.3%) BPS had secondary education; 33 (55%) BPS have good knowledge; 41 (68.3%) BPS has a supportive attitude towards the PI action of HIV / AIDS transmission in childbirth assistance; 53 (88.3%) BPS has good action in preventing HIV / AIDS infection during delivery assistance; there is no relationship between BPS education and PI action of HIV / AIDS transmission in delivery assistance (p = 1,000); there is a correlation between BPS knowledge and PI action of HIV / AIDS transmission in delivery assistance (p = 0.002); there was no relationship between BPS attitudes and PI action of HIV / AIDS transmission in delivery assistance (p = 0.668). The conclusion of this research is that there are still BPS who have not reached the tertiary level of education; there are still BPS who have a lack of knowledge about HIV / AIDS this is due to only a small part of them who have been trained in APN, there are a small number of BPS who still show an attitude of not supporting the implementation of PI during delivery assistance, not all BPS perform PI action properly during delivery assistance, For this reason, it is suggested to the Health Office of Tabalong Regency to consider the formulation of health policies, formulate an agenda related to improving the competence of midwives; for IBI, it can facilitate increasing the knowledge and competence of IBI members and can provide motivation to midwives to always carry out PI actions in every delivery assistance.

Abstract

The mortality rate of childbearing women in Indonesia is still significantly high. This situation urges the government to take action to overcome the problem by providing and spreading information and raising awareness on maternity health and childcare with the hope it will improve their knowledge and deepen their understanding. As such, antenatal class program is designed to accommodate the goal in surmounting childbearing women mortality issues in the immediate future. This research aims to discover the correlations between pregnant women’s interest and health cadre role on the participation in attending antenatal class. It was conducted in the coverage area of Puskesmas (community clinic) Batu Aji, Batam, from February to July 2019. The research design employs analytic descriptive method with cross-sectional approach by applying simple random sampling technique on the total sample population of 82 pregnant women. The research instrument is in the format of questionnaire. The data analyzing technique employs univariate and bivariate with chi-square where the significance level tolerance ρ-value < (α) 0.05. The findings reveal that the interest to attend the class is notably high with 77 (93.9%) respondents asserting; health cadre role in advocating them to comply is also highly significant with 76 (92.7%) respondents affirming; and the participation of pregnant women in attending the class is 47 (57.3%) respondents confirming in presence. The chi-square findings reveal the correlation between pregnant women’s interest and their participation in attending the class is indicated by ρ-value = 0.018, while the correlation between the health cadre role and the participation in attending the class is indicated by ρ-value = 0.017; these confirm the correlations between pregnant women’s interest and health cadre role on their participation in attending antenatal class. In suggestion, with some insights provided from this research, more health cadres are encouraged to help and motivate pregnant women to attend antenatal class because it can beneficially help improve their health and physical wellness.

Abstract

Based on the report from the S. Parman Health Center on exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months, 26 out of 115 babies (22.6%) received exclusive breastfeeding. In 2019, the number of infants who received exclusive breastfeeding increased but was still far from the target coverage, which was 80%. , namely 32 babies out of 135 babies (23.7%) this is because some mothers do not know about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding and when is the right time to give complementary feeding (MP ASI). The purpose of this study was to find out the description of the level of education and knowledge of mothers about the provision of complementary feeding to infants at the S Parman health center in Banjarmasin. This research design uses descriptive research method with a sample of 61 people taken by accidental sampling. Data were collected through questionnaire sheets and processed manually in the form of tables, then analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. Of the 61 respondents who gave complementary foods to breast milk, 42 people (68.9%) and those who did not provide complementary foods to infants, only 19 people (31.1%) with respondents who had basic education as many as 35 people (59.0 %), who have secondary education are 18 people (29.5%), and those who have higher education are 8 people (11.5%) and respondents who have less knowledge are 22 people (36.1%) and who have knowledge good are 19 people (31.1%), who have sufficient knowledge are 20 people (32.8%). Complementary foods that are right for the baby and the risks that may occur in giving complementary foods to breast milk are too early.

Abstract

The information on benefits of clinical baby massage is not well-spread among our general society. More often than not, many still relegate the baby massage job to a witchdoctor because of lack of awareness of instead trusting the practice in the hand of medical professionals. A mother must be well-educated in doing the baby massage practice before she can later self-perform the job. This research aims to discover the impact of advocating clinical baby massage on the mother’s conduct in self-performing the practice. The research employs pre-experimental design with pretest and posttest one group setting. It took place in BPM (independent practice midwife) Walladatun Islah. The sample population is the mothers visiting the BPM for vaccination. Data collecting technique employs total sampling involving 30 respondents. Data collecting instruments are leaflets and video for independent variable, and observation sheet by check-listing for dependent variable. Data analyzing technique employs paired sample t-test. The findings reveal that from the bivariate test using Kolgomorov-Smirnov method, out of 30 respondents, significant ρ-value = 0.200 > 0.05 indicates both variables’ distributions are normal to proceed to the t-test. The value from both pretest and posttest is 16.603 with significance level of 0.000, indicating it is bigger than t-table (16.603 > 2.045) therefore the hypothesis of the research is tolerable. In conclusion, there is a strong relevance between the advocacy of practicing clinical baby massage and the mother’s conduct in self-performing the job. In suggestion, healthcare workers and professionals are expected to be more active in advocating both pregnant and postpartum women the benefits of clinical baby massage for example during the antenatal care class or visit.

Abstract

Hospitals, apart from medical referral centers, also have the potential to transmit infections which are often referred to as Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). HAIs are a major problem faced worldwide and their incidence is increasing. The incidence of HAIs in hospitals in Asian countries is around 3-21% with an average of 9%. In Indonesia, the average incidence of HAIs is around 9.1% higher than in Asian countries. The incidence of HAIs in government hospitals is 55.1%, private hospitals 35.7%, and ABRI hospitals 9.1%. Currently, the incidence of HAIs is used as a benchmark for the quality of hospital services. One of the steps in infection prevention and control is through hand hygiene. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of health workers on compliance with hand hygiene. This study used an analytical research design with a cross sectional approach and was carried out at the Raja Ahmad Tabib Hospital Tanjungpinang on July 16-30 2019. The sample in this study was 80 respondents with purposive sampling technique. From the results of the study, the majority of health workers have good knowledge (80%), the majority of health workers have good attitudes (77.5%), and most health workers comply with hand hygiene (65%). between knowledge and adherence to hand hygiene where p = 0.000 <0.05 and there is a relationship between attitudes towards compliance with hand hygiene where p = 0.000 <0.05. In conclusion, there is a relationship between knowledge and attitudes of health workers to compliance with hand hygiene. Suggestions that respondents can increase compliance to always do hand hygiene in order to reduce the incidence of HAIs in hospitals.

Abstract

The rapidly growing number of the population has become our government longtime concern thus the KB (KeluargaBerencana) (family planning) program is introduced. However, the indifference and the lack of knowledge on the program among the general public has imperiled its effectiveness. To achieve the goal, the government via BKKBN (BadanKependudukandanKeluargaBerencanaNasional) (National Population and Family Planning Board)has the initiative by optimizing the role of local government in advancing the program through the KB Kampongs. This research aims to discover the effectiveness of the family planning kampong program in initiating the concept of independent small family. The research design employs descriptive analysis with qualitative approach that was conducted in Kelurahan (urban community) TanjungUnggat in May 2019. The research respondents are BKKBN, local government, and the society of the KB kampong, using interviews and observations as the medium. From the interview sessions, in order to assess the effectiveness of the program, it is revealed that the respondents especially the officials and stakeholders in majority are well-informedand aware about the program and the goal of the program, and it is worth noted that the continuum of its implementation is as planned and in progress. However, the immediate result is still far from perfect, in part the society due to the indifference but the programoverall shows positive progress and the society begin to willingly participate as they grow and understand better. In conclusion, as the result suggests, the KB Kampong program in promoting the concept of independent small family has not yet reached its success or effectiveness. In suggestion, the program needs to be pushed on and popularized to gain more exposures, for example, via seminaries and public talks, and any similar future research is expected to give reports on its progress.

Abstract

Stunting is impaired growth and development that children experience from a number of impacting factors with poor nutrition being one of them. Children are defined as stunted if their height-for-age is more than two standard deviations below the WHO Child Growth Standards median. According to the report of the Health Office of Batam in 2018, out of 20 puskesmas (community clinics) in the region, five of them recorded the highest prevalence of stunting among toddlers with Puskesmas Sei Lekop being the highest hitting 110 reported cases (0.89%). This research aims to discover the correlations between mother’s educational background and exclusive breastfeeding practice on the toddlerhood stunting prevalence in Puskesmas Sei Lekop, Batam, in 2019.The research design employs analytic method with cross-sectional approach. Conducted from April to August 2019, the research involves 97 respondents in total. The data analyzing technique employs chi-square. The findings reveal the correlations between mother’s educational background and the stunting prevalence among toddlers with ρ-value 0.01 < 0.05; and between exclusive breastfeeding practice and the stunting prevalence among toddlers with ρ-value 0.00 < 0.05. In conclusion, the findings confirm the correlations between mother’s educational background and exclusive breastfeeding practice on the stunting prevalence among toddlers. In suggestion, the following researchers who are interested in studying similar subject are expected to develop more detailed parametric variables and investigate other possible factors that may contribute or are related to stunting issues.
