Abstract

The cultural activities based on “Karya.Ku” offer an innovative approach of improving the creativity of children with disabilities to be more positive and inclusive. This study aims to explore the various forms, factors, and implications of cultural activities based on “Karya.Ku” in facilitating self-expression, social interaction, as well as shaping people’s self-perception and views of children with disabilities. Descriptive qualitative methods were used to collect data through observations, interviews, and documentation of cultural activities based on “Karya.Ku” at the Alamanda special school for autism. The study involved principals, teachers, homeroom teachers, and students as informants. The findings of this study reveal that cultural activities based on “Karya.Ku” are significantly effective in enhancing the creativity of children with disabilities. This is achieved through the structured methodologies, the support for an inclusive learning environment, and the synergy between all parties. Furthermore, this study recommends the exploration of the implementation of cultural activities in other communities, with attention to the formation of attitudes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyzes the spatial dimension of religion contributes to polarization and conflict between religious groups in urban societies. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and literature review method, this research explores the forms, impacts, and prevention efforts of religious spatial segregation through analysis of cases involving the dissolution of religious rituals and rejection of houses of worship construction. This study argues that the spatial dimension of religion reinforces the boundaries of religious differences, transforming them from imaginary to clear and practical boundaries, thus giving rise to tensions between religious groups. In order to address religious violence resulting from segregation, this study proposes a peacebuilding design with an integrative structural and socio-cultural approach. The research findings indicate that the concept of religious spatiality is both ambiguous and paradoxical, with blurred categorizations of space trigger contestation of meaning between groups, potentially leading to conflict and violations of religious freedom. This study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of religious conflict in urban contexts and highlights the importance of a spatial approach in conflict resolution and peacebuilding efforts.

Abstract

This research aims to comprehensively understand how Islam has influenced the fundamental discussions within the Islamic Environmentalism movement, explicitly concerning agriculture and traditional knowledge systems. The study analyzed 103 scholarly articles and publications from Google Scholar, covering the period from 2011 to 2023. The search was conducted on December 14, 2023, using the keyword 'Dewi Sri.' The results show that cultural and agricultural factors specific to the region influence the Javanese agroecological perspective. In contrast, Islamic agroecological methods are shaped by the integration of Islamic teachings, particularly the concept of Green Islam, to create food systems that are both sustainable and self-regulating. However, the specific mechanism by which Islam affected alterations in traditional agricultural knowledge systems cannot be well elucidated using broad terms. It is essential to acknowledge that understanding the role of Islam in influencing the transformation of traditional agriculture knowledge in the Islamic environmentalism movement can facilitate collaboration within the Muslim community. This fact can serve as a valuable resource for integrating Javanese values without posing a threat to the integrity of Islam but instead as an opportunity to demonstrate that Islam also shares the same commitment to environmental preservation.

Abstract

Religious appropriation is a phenomenon that is continually reproduced in every electoral contestation. However, this context has not been discussed comprehensively in previous studies. In addition to responding to the shortcomings of previous studies, this study also focuses on explaining the characteristics, factors, and latent dangers of religious appropriation that occured in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election. This study reveals three important findings regarding the religious appropriation in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election. First, religious appropriation frequently manifests in the context of doctrine, language, and religious behaviors expressed outside the values and norms of religion. Second, cultural, spiritual, and structural factors have dominantly influenced the occurance of religious appropriation in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election. Third, the latent dangers of religious appropriation in the 2024 Indonesian presidential election often leads to intolerance, polarization, and persecution against religious communities even after the 2024 Indonesian presidential election. This study also recommends the importance of further studies that explain the attitudes of both formal and informal authorities in responding to religious appropriation in political contestation by conducting intensive interviews.

Abstract

The pilgrimage activities performed by local Muslims in the Safarwadi cave are considered to have a similar function and value as the Hajj pilgrimage activities conducted directly in the city of Mecca. However, this phenomenon is typically excluded from scientific discussions. This study addresses deficiencies in previous research by examining the characteristics, meanings, and community responses to pilgrimage activities performed at Safarwadi cave. This descriptive qualitative study, based on a case study approach, resulted in three significant findings. Firstly, the pilgrimage activities performed by local Muslims at Safarwadi cave have a different set of practices and symbols than those observed in the Hajj activities conducted in the city of Mecca. Secondly, the pilgrimage activities performed at Safarwadi Cave are considered by local Muslims to have the same function and value as the Hajj activities conducted in the city of Mecca. Thirdly, the community’s response to pilgrimage activities performed by local Muslims at Safarwadi cave is considered to be an unbelievable, irrational, and abnormal pilgrimage activity. This study also recommends that in-depth interviews should be conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the pilgrimage activities performed by local Muslims.
