Abstract

The encounter of Indonesian society with foreign cultures leaves a mark on a culture, leaving traces in the form of narratives and symbols. In Larantuka, the encounter of local culture with the Portuguese leaves the Semana Santa tradition or Easter tradition which in the oral narrative and ritual process still presents the Portuguese style. This research was conducted to find out how the presence of Portuguese culture functions in the Semana Santa tradition in Larantuka; and why Portuguese heritage is maintained and preserved in the tradition. Data collection utilized participatory observation, interview, and literature study methods. The results showed that the Semana Santa ritual as a Portuguese heritage still takes place as an annual ritual, the use of Portuguese language in the ritual, symbols, and the Confraria brotherhood formed by the Portuguese. Three important points that become the reason for the Portuguese presence in the Semana Santa ritual are the acculturation process, narratives in collective memory, and the obedience of tradition actors in carrying out ancestral messages.

Abstract

Arabic being one of the oldest languages in the world, has made significant contributions to other languages including Indonesian. Some Indonesian vocabulary along with its development has been adopted from Arabic. This paper not only aims to map the absorption words in various categories, but also to analyze the factors of Arabic absorption into Indonesian. Descriptive qualitative method is used to explore the data in the text. The data is analyzed in four stages: data reduction, data display, data verification, and conclusion drawing. This study shows that the adoption of Arabic into Indonesian tends to be on words related to Islam, which relate to function, morality, death, and the occult. The language absorption cannot be separated from the history of Islam in Indonesia as the language of Islam (Arabic) colors Indonesian culture. Further research can sharpen the semantic analysis because the absorbed words experience reduction and degradation of meaning.

Abstract

In Muna community marriage is known as kawin pinang and kawin lari. Elopement is done as a way out or solution for the Muna community. Negotiation is crucial in this research because, in the literature review conducted by the author, as many as 25 national journals did not discuss in depth about negotiations in marriage. This research was analyzed using a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques of in-depth interviews and participatory observation. The results of this study show that in the marriage process for the Muna community, starting from finding a mate, proposing, and ending with a marriage, the role of traditional leaders is needed. Traditional leaders who function as mediators and facilitators through negotiations or deliberations can influence the value of the dowry itself

Abstract

This article attempts to explain why the issue of sex change is still an important discussion topic in Islam. The phenomenon of transwomen and transmen is judged unilaterally on the basis of religious, cultural, and socio-religious doctrines. This study aims to be able to look further at the research gap from the previous studies by looking at the reception of transwomen and transmen in the view of Islamic family law as well as to discover the factors that have caused gender reassignment among transwomen and transmen. This paper has discovered that transwomen and transmen have suffered a stigma from religion and in society, and this stigma has been influenced by various economic, political, and religious, doctrinal interests. However, at the same time, there are cases that show religious legitimacy allows someone to change their gender. This research has been conducted using the literature study approach to investigate the reception of transwomen and transmen from the perspective of Islamic family law.

Abstract

Prior to 1966, Indonesia was regarded as a country with an outdated order system. After the establishment of a new social order characterized by the incorporation of markets into people's lives, this period came to an end. The market's integration into society has transformed traditional self-sufficiency through subsistence production practices into a market-oriented and centralized modern society oriented toward the market. Various local beliefs, values, and practices have been supplanted with new ones as a result of the modern nation's formation. The national language, which functions as a measure of nationalism, has become a central factor that has transformed and threatened local languages. As a result, the influence of local languages has diminished significantly as urbanization, the offspring of welfare programs, has increased. National legal policies are enforced despite coexisting with customary laws, demonstrating modernization's dominance over marginalized local cultures. Under the guise of "progress," the new lifestyle is a component of the modernization project that not only shapes a new social practice but also disorients values and adds new hues to the system of ideas, values, and social practices that serve as the basis for societal development.

Abstract

Nyangku ritual is considered not only as an amplifier solidarity and friendship for Panjalu people, however it is also as an arena for political investment by political elites. This paper aims to analyze the political elites forms and factors of interest that involved in Nyangku ritual. This research is descriptive qualitative where the data obtained through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. This study results indicate that there are three forms of political interest in rituals that appear to be carried out by political elite in Panjalu village from various activities such as; moral support shown by banners and posters and attendance, material support shown by providing financial assistance and action support by being directly involved in the process of Nyangku ritual event. The elite interests of community leaders and regional officials are a precedent for a shift in meaning marked by political activity in Nyangku ritual, which has implications for the ritual sacred values degradation. I argue that political interest in Nyangku ritual has shown a shift in meaning in society, namely from the sacred to the profane.

Auguste Comte has categorized the intellectual development stages into three, namely theological stage, metaphysical stage and positive stage. The three stages of intellect have a big contribution in shaping the living of spirituality in every age. However, today and in the future, humans will face a new civilization when they enter the digital world. Experts in digital technology field continue to develop new worlds that transcend reality and call it the metaverse. This research is intended to explain human spirituality in the shift from the metaphysical stage to the metaverse and to find out what has changed during the shift of these waves. The writer feels that this study is important since spirituality is an integral part of human life and requires full awareness in living it. The data to be used in this study were obtained by reviewing the literature (library research) and analyzed using the continuity and change theory. By using this theory, it is expected that this research will be able to find out what is sustainable and what changes in human spirituality in the course of the three waves above.

Abstract

The fashion emergence is a trend that is closely related to generation Z. The easy access to social media is one of the most effective diffusion modes of fashion trends. In addition, there are marketing techniques used by business actors to spread products by involving figures that are loved by generation Z, such as politicians, celebrities, artists, and other public figures. These figures involvement is able to attract the followers to follow the trend. The reason is that following trends can show one’s identity and increase self-confidence, it cannot be avoided by looking at the ways of fashion fans in Generation Z. Fashion trends that continue to roll quickly make them have consumptive behavior. This behavior must be taken seriously considering the waste impact generated from production can be a big problem for the environment
