Abstract

This paper explores the meaning of the phrase  "Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires." in Song of Solomon 2:7b and its implications for premarital couples. This phrase emphasises the importance of self-control in love and desire, especially before marriage. Using qualitative methods and theological interpretation, this study explores the theological meaning of the verse and its relevance in the modern context. The results show that self-control in love, in accordance with biblical teaching, is essential to maintaining the sanctity of premarital relationships. The modern phenomenon shows that many young couples are failing to maintain this boundary, which has the potential to undermine marriage preparation and have long-term negative consequences. Therefore, applying the principles of love contained in the Song of Songs can help young couples build a strong and God-blessed marriage foundation. This study also aims to provide practical guidance for pre-marital couples in maintaining the sanctity of love and delaying physical relations until the right time according to God's will, in order to avoid temptation and build a healthy and balanced relationship.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the Apostle Paul's discipleship principles in the Perkantas Central Sulawesi ministry during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic disrupted many aspects of life, including church ministries, forcing a shift from in-person discipleship to digital platforms. This research aims to investigate how Small Group Leaders (PKK) adapted these discipleship strategies amidst the challenges posed by limited technology and virtual fatigue. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the study examines the experiences of six PKK members, highlighting their strategies and challenges in maintaining spiritual relationships and discipleship effectiveness. The results demonstrate that despite technical and relational difficulties, the discipleship process continued to thrive through digital innovations. The findings offer insights into how the Apostle Paul’s principles can be applied in contemporary crises, contributing to future discipleship strategies in similar situations.

Abstract

Psalm 68:19 and Ephesians 4:18 are indeed related: for Paul quotes the verse as a passage in Ephesians. However, Paul's citation method is polemical because there is a clear textual difference between Psalm 68:19 and Ephesians 4:8. The research results in this article use a qualitative method, a literature study involving lexical and grammatical analysis. The result of the analysis in this article is that the conversion of the word לָקַ֣חְתָּ or ἔλαβες in Psalm 68:19 to ἔδωκεν for Paul in his letter does exist. Paul's textual alteration has two factors: First, Paul's position as the Interpreter of the Bible. Thus, when quoting Psalm 68:19, Paul is not just quoting. He made an effort to interpret the quote for the Ephesians. Secondly, Paul was a Jew. The tradition of interpreting Judaic literature does seem to involve changing grammar or words in an attempt to articulate the passage so that the reader of the letter can easily understand the meaning of Psalm 68:19. Given Paul's Jewishness, the alteration of לָקַ֣חְתָּ or ἔλαβες in the original text of Psalm 68:19 to ἔδωκεν in Ephesians 4:8 is one example of the application of interpretive tradition of Judaic literature. Further analysis is needed to understand Paul's motif for citation Psalm 68:19.

Abstract

Progressive Christianity promotes an inclusive theology of salvation that reinterprets the concept of redemption, rejecting the necessity of Christ’s atoning sacrifice on the cross. This perspective shifts the focus from faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour to self-transformation through social justice and moral actions. As a result, the meaning of the cross is marginalised, and salvation is perceived as a personal journey rather than divine redemption from sin. This study aims to critically analyse the Progressive Christian interpretation of salvation and evaluate it biblically. A qualitative research approach was employed, using a literature review to examine theological sources relevant to the topic. The findings indicate that sin necessitates atonement for salvation, the cross is central to Christ’s redemptive work, and salvation is found exclusively in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). This study concludes that the Progressive Christian understanding of salvation, which diminishes the significance of the cross, contradicts biblical teachings. Salvation is not merely about social transformation but is fundamentally dependent on Christ’s atoning sacrifice.

Abstract

The prophetic tradition is not only found in Judaism but also in various Ancient Near Eastern civilizations, such as Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, and Canaan. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of Israelite prophecy in relation to Ancient Near Eastern prophetic traditions by highlighting patterns of inculturation and differentiation. This research employs a historical-comparative approach and theological hermeneutics by examining prophetic texts in the Bible and Ancient Near Eastern sources. The results show that Israelite prophecy shares similarities with Ancient Near Eastern prophecy in terms of revelation methods and the social roles of prophets but differs in its monotheistic theology and focus on social justice. The study concludes that Israelite prophecy functioned not only as a medium for divine revelation but also as an agent of social change. This research contributes to biblical theology, comparative religion, and its relevance to contemporary spiritual and social life.   Authors Biography Pieter G.O. Abstract

Leadership style and communication skills play a crucial role in maintaining the organizational commitment of church congregations. This study examines the influence of leadership style and communication skills on congregational commitment at the Indonesian Evangelical Church (GKKAI) in Palu. Using a quantitative approach with a survey method, data were collected from 80 church members selected through purposive sampling. The research employed a structured questionnaire based on the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), communication effectiveness models, and commitment measurement frameworks. The findings indicate that transformational and servant leadership styles significantly enhance congregational commitment, while effective communication strengthens the relationship between church leaders and members. Statistical analysis using multiple linear regression shows that leadership style has a dominant effect compared to communication skills. The study also highlights theological reflections on leadership models in the Bible, particularly those of Jesus and Paul, as applicable to modern church leadership. The results suggest that churches should implement leadership training, improve communication strategies, and enhance congregation involvement. Future research should explore additional influencing factors such as digital media and socio-cultural contexts.   Authors Biography Yewin Tjandra, Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Injili Indonesia PaluScopus ID: 59546624900Google Scholar:  HRO-yh0AAAAJ Agustinus Faot, Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Injili Indonesia SurabayaScopus ID: Author IDGoogle Scholar: n0BgZIYAAAAJ

Abstract

This study aims to describe theologically the prophecy of the Prophet Daniel, namely the occurrence of the great tribulation. In particular, we will examine theologically the prophecy of the Prophet Daniel and when the fulfillment of the prophecy during the tribulation will occur which is written in detail in the book of Revelation, so this study will review it based on Biblical truth. Through research using qualitative descriptive research methods by means of library study, it is hoped that we can provide theological answers based on Biblical truth to the understanding of believers today regarding the truth of the tribulation period. The Tribulation Period is part of God's program to show His omnipotence and His justice in every work of His for humans who do not believe and have no faith in Him, and as a promise to Satan as the author of evil. Through this study, it is hoped that the church will attend and provide correct teaching to church members about what and how the Tribulation Period occurs. So that believers today have the correct understanding so that they do not misinterpret things related to the end times.

Abstract

This study examines the crucial role of Second Temple literature in bridging the historical and theological gap between the Old and New Testaments. Writings such as the Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha, and the Qumran texts offer valuable insights into the socio-religious context of this transitional period. Key events, such as the rededication of the Second Temple and Jesus’ conflicts with the Pharisees, can be more fully understood through these sources. This study also highlights how Second Temple literature contains numerous allusions to and quotations from the Old Testament, enriching canonical and textual studies of the Hebrew Bible. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls has further confirmed the continuity and integrity of the biblical text. The novelty of this study lies in its emphasis on Second Temple literature as a hermeneutical foundation for understanding Jewish religious identity and the emergence of early Christianity.   Author Biography Harman Ziduhu Laia, Sekolah Tinggi Teologi Injili Indonesia SurabayaScopus ID: 58954546000Google Scholar:  pHG6TXQAAAAJ

Abstract

The phrase "those who were long ago appointed to damnation" in Jude 1:4 is often used as the basis for the concept of double predestination in Calvinism. However, this interpretation has sparked controversy among theologians. Some understand the text as evidence of predestination, while others see it as a warning of the consequences of punishment for those who reject God and Jesus Christ and follow false teachings. This study focuses on this phrase through exegetical methods using various analytical approaches: contextual, grammatical, structural, historical, lexical, exegetical, and theological. The results show that Jude 1:4 does not speak of double predestination, but rather of the certainty of punishment for those who abuse God's grace. Thus, this text emphasizes God's justice and the reality of punishment for disobedience, rather than the dual determination of salvation and destruction. Therefore, Jude 1:4 cannot be used as a theological basis for the doctrine of double predestination; instead, it must be understood as a warning against false teachings and the misuse of grace in the lives of believers.
