Abstract

The Hot Spring Bath of Jorong Gurah, located in Nagari Batu Bajanjang, Solok Regency, West Sumatra, is a geothermal-based natural resource with great potential to be developed as an integrated community-based geotourism (Community-Based Tourism/CBT) destination. This study aims to identify and analyze the geotourism potential of the Jorong Gurah Hot Spring, examine the involvement of local communities—including the participation of KKN students from Universitas Negeri Padang—in tourism development efforts, and formulate sustainable development strategies. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research with field observation approaches, in-depth interviews with local residents, and documentation analysis. The results indicate that this location has significant geotourism potential, including natural Hot spring sources with beneficial mineral content, beautiful mountain landscapes, and the distinctive local wisdom of farming communities. As a concrete contribution, UNP KKN students installed directional signboards containing information about the bathing location, the division of male and female zones, and information that the facility is free and open to the public. Abstract

The Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) is a form of student community engagement that places students directly within society to understand local social conditions while contributing to community development. The KKN program implemented in Jorong Bawah Gunung, Nagari Batu Bajanjang, Lembang Jaya District, Solok Regency, focused on student participation in social, religious, and environmental activities. The main activities carried out included the construction of informational signboards, such as direction signs to the mosque, the “ikan larangan” (protected fish area), and the route to Mount Talang. The implementation process began with field observation and identification of community needs, followed by discussions with local authorities and residents. The program was then planned and executed in collaboration with the community through a participatory approach. The results indicate that the installation of signboards improved access to location information for both residents and visitors, making it easier to identify important places within the area. Furthermore, the program fostered stronger social interaction between students and the community through involvement in various social and religious activities. This KKN program did not only focus on physical outputs in the form of signboards but also emphasized community engagement and collaboration throughout the process. This experience provided valuable insight for students into their role within society and demonstrated how simple, well-planned interventions can deliver meaningful benefits to the local environment.

Abstract

Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata/KKN) is one of the forms of higher education community engagement aimed at encouraging student participation in community development. One of the flagship programs implemented in Nagari Batu Payung, Lareh Sago Halaban District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, was the Inter-Hamlet Volleyball Tournament. This activity was organized in response to the community's high interest in sports and the need to strengthen social relationships among residents from different hamlets. The purpose of this study was to describe the implementation of the tournament and analyze its role in promoting sportsmanship, community participation, and social cohesion among hamlets. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach through direct observation, documentation, and field participation during the implementation of the activity. The tournament involved eight teams consisting of seven hamlet representatives, namely Pakan Rabaa, Padang Tangah Sialang, Koto Malintang, Kapalo Bukik, Batu Payuang, Seberang Air, and Lareh Nan Panjang, as well as one team from KKN students. The results showed that the tournament was successfully conducted with active participation from the community. The activity not only served as a sports competition but also functioned as a medium for strengthening friendship, increasing social interaction, fostering sportsmanship, and reinforcing unity among hamlets. Therefore, the Inter-Hamlet Volleyball Tournament can be considered an effective community-based activity in supporting social solidarity and promoting active community engagement in Nagari Batu Payung.

Abstract

The ability to read the Qur'an is a fundamental skill that should be developed from an early age. However, several students at TPQ Nurul Iman still experience difficulties in reading the Qur'an accurately and fluently. This community service activity focused on mentoring Qur'anic reading through the implementation of the Tartil and Ummi methods. The mentoring program was conducted through both group-based and individual sessions tailored to the students' reading proficiency levels. The implementation of these methods supported a more structured mentoring process and assisted students in improving their pronunciation of Arabic letters (makharijul huruf) and application of tajwid rules. The results showed that the mentoring activities contributed to better reading habits and provided direct guidance for students in reading the Qur'an according to proper recitation rules. The Tartil and Ummi methods can be utilized as mentoring approaches to support Qur'anic reading development in nonformal Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Bullying in elementary school environments remains a serious concern due to its long-term impact on students’ psychological and social development. This article describes the implementation of preventive anti-bullying education for fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 09 Sijunjung as part of the KKN (Community Service) program. The method employed was educational outreach through material presentation, interactive discussion, and question-and-answer sessions. The results showed that students gained understanding of the definition of bullying, its forms (verbal, social, and physical), its negative impacts, and practical prevention strategies. The education also encouraged students to be more courageous in rejecting bullying behavior and supporting a positive school environment. Psychological impacts observed in previous studies, including anxiety, low self-esteem, and social isolation, reinforce the urgency of early preventive intervention. This activity also underlines the importance of collaborative approaches involving schools, families, and external facilitators in building a safe and child-friendly school environment.

Abstract

The absence of digitized administrative maps in rural areas remains a significant obstacle to transparent and data-driven village governance. This study aims to describe the process of creating a digital administrative map of Nagari Tanjung Gadang, Lareh Sago Halaban District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province, as part of the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) community service program. A systematic and participatory approach was applied, encompassing four stages: preparation and literature review, field data collection, digital map processing using Geographic Information System (GIS) software, and finalization and handover. Field surveys were conducted over 14 working days, producing 187 GPS coordinate points across five spatial categories. The resulting map comprises five primary layers—administrative boundaries, road networks, land use, public facilities, and hydrology—totaling 312 spatial features, and was completed in 21 working days, ahead of schedule. The map received positive responses from village officials and was immediately utilized in the preparation of the Village Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMNag). This study demonstrates that digital mapping technology, when integrated with a participatory community engagement approach, can effectively address spatial data gaps in rural areas and strengthen the capacity for independent village governance.

Abstract

The preservation of local culture requires educational activities that actively engage younger generations. One effort that can be implemented is traditional dance training as a medium for character development and skill enhancement among students. This community service program aimed to develop the creativity and self-confidence of junior high school students through traditional dance training in Jorong Balai Baruah, Batu Bajanjang Village, Lembang Jaya District, Solok Regency. The program employed the Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) approach, which emphasizes active participant involvement throughout all stages of the activity. The program was carried out through several stages, including initial observation, program planning, traditional dance training implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through participatory observation, documentation, and assessments of students’ progress during the training process. The results indicated that traditional dance training successfully enhanced students’ creativity, as reflected in their ability to develop movement variations, participate actively in group practices, and express themselves through dance performances. Furthermore, students demonstrated increased self-confidence, which was evident from their willingness to perform in public, communicate within groups, and actively engage in all training activities. The program also contributed to the preservation of local culture by improving students’ understanding of the cultural values embedded in Minangkabau traditional dances. Therefore, traditional dance training can serve as an effective alternative activity for fostering character development, creativity, self-confidence, and cultural preservation within school and community environments.
