Abstract

This study examines the journey of dumplings (jiaozi) as a Chinese culinary dish that has undergone a process of acculturation since its introduction to Indonesia. Initially, dumplings were a traditional Chinese food with symbolic meaning as a symbol of good luck and prosperity. In their development in Indonesia, dumplings have undergone adaptations in ingredients, taste, and presentation in accordance with local preferences. This study uses a qualitative approach through literature review to trace the history, transformation, and localisation process of dumplings in Indonesian culinary practices. The results of the study show that dumplings are not only accepted as a complement to popular dishes such as chicken noodles and meatballs, but have also developed through various menu innovations. These findings confirm the contribution of the study that dumplings serve as a bridge for cultural acculturation, representing the meeting of Chinese and Indonesian culinary traditions and demonstrating the dynamics of cuisine as a space for cultural interaction that continues to evolve.

Abstract

Poverty, which arises as a result of unequal development, has become a serious issue for many communities. Economic hardship often compels individuals to justify any means necessary to achieve their goals, even at the cost of violating moral values. This condition not only triggers criminal behavior but also contributes to the decline of morality, as people may neglect social and religious norms in order to survive. As a multidimensional problem, poverty generates various social issues. Under economic pressure, individuals working as laborers, small traders, or low-income employees are sometimes driven to deviant acts such as theft, robbery, or even prostitution. Such circumstances also influence the practice of religious duties, as some people tend to neglect religious and moral obligations in order to fulfill their basic needs. This study aims to examine the relationship between fasting as a religious obligation and the sense of compulsion brought about by economic difficulties. Miles & Huberman identify the main causes of poverty as low levels of education, weak work ethic, and limited employment opportunities. Consequently, religious practices such as prayer, fasting, and other Islamic activities are often performed inconsistently. From the perspective of Islamic law, this phenomenon reflects a shift in intention: acts of worship that should be based on sincerity may instead be carried out under compulsion due to economic pressure. Thus, poverty fosters survival strategies that weaken the quality of religious observance and create a dilemma between genuine devotion and compulsion in performing fasting

Abstract

This study aims to examine students’ perceptions of educational costs and their impact on learning motivation. Educational expenses are often perceived differently among students, either as a financial burden or an investment in the future. These differing perceptions influence students’ attitudes, interest, and level of motivation. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method that synthesizes approximately twenty national scholarly articles published between 2015 and 2025. Data were analyzed through narrative synthesis to identify patterns explaining the relationship between cost perceptions and learning motivation. The findings indicate that students’ perceptions of educational costs are shaped by family economic conditions, prior educational experiences, information about educational benefits, and environmental support. A high-cost perception tends to generate psychological pressure and reduce learning motivation, whereas viewing educational expenses as an investment encourages students to strive for better academic achievement. Furthermore, both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation act as reinforcing factors; a balanced combination of these motivations enhances persistence, engagement, and academic outcomes. The review also highlights that factors such as educational service quality, parental support, and scholarship availability may mediate the influence of cost perceptions on motivation. This study concludes that positive perceptions of educational costs play a crucial role in supporting learning success, emphasizing the importance of equitable financial policies and institutional strategies to strengthen student motivation.

Abstract

Al-Qardh al-Hasan is a loan agreement (tabarru’) that functions as a social instrument in Islamic Financial Institutions (LKS) to help customers in need, especially Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This study aims to align the application of the Qard al-Hasan agreement in MSME financing in the Cibiru area with the provisions of the DSN-MUI Fatwa No. 19/DSN-MUI/IV/2001 concerning Al-Qardh. The research method used is normative-empirical law with a regulatory approach (statutory approach) and a contextual approach (conceptual approach), and supported by field data (field research). The results of the study indicate that the application of the Qard al-Hasan agreement by BMD serving MSMEs in Cibiru has generally complied with sharia provisions, especially regarding the prohibition on requiring additional imbalances from the loan principal (the principle of kullu qardin jarra manfa’atan fahuwa riba).

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of stylistic analysis in understanding the use of language in poetry. This study focuses on idioms and figures of speech, but also analyzes general stylistics, including diction, imagery, and figures of speech in Aan Mansyur’s poem entitled “Makan Malam di Restoran Baru Tak Jauh dari Pantai Losari” (Dinner at a New Restaurant Not Far from Losari Beach). The purpose of this study is to explain how the use of idioms and figures of speech can enhance the poetic meaning, imagination, and atmosphere created by the poet. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method through in-depth reading, identifying stylistic elements, and interpretation based on Al-Ma’ruf’s theory. This study shows that the use of language styles such as personification, metaphor, and idioms is very important in bringing objects such as the moon, the sea, and the city to life, so that these objects become symbols of the characters’ feelings in the lyrics. Idioms such as “the rising tide,” “the bones of the city,” and “the scent of ordinary people’s work” reinforce the inner images, social criticism, and authenticity that the poet builds. In addition, the poet’s use of repetition and word choice enriches the composition of the poem and gives it a deep emotional rhythm. The conclusion of this study confirms that the combination of idioms and figures of speech can create dense poetic meaning and reinforce the message about humanity and the feelings that the poet wants to convey.

Abstract

This study examines the acculturation of Chinese Islamic architecture in Indonesia through cultural interactions that have taken place since the Silk Road era. This acculturation is reflected in the presence of Chinese Islamic–style mosques, such as the Muhammad Cheng Hoo Mosque in Surabaya, the Lautze Mosque in Jakarta, and the Siti Djirzanah Mosque in Yogyakarta, which integrate elements of traditional Chinese temple architecture with Islamic principles. This study is directed toward analyzing the process of development of Chinese Islamic architectural acculturation as well as examining the forms of cultural integration and social meanings reflected in mosque buildings. This study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method to obtain an in-depth understanding of the acculturation of Chinese Islamic architecture in Indonesia. This approach was selected because the research focuses on the interpretation of meaning, cultural context, and architectural symbols that cannot be reduced to numerical data. The data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative method by synthesizing findings from various relevant and credible scholarly sources. The primary contribution of this study lies in the formulation of the characteristics of Chinese Islamic–style mosque architecture as a form of cultural acculturation and as a representation of social meanings within the context of Islamic diversity in Indonesia.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in Indonesia's economy, contributing significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employment. However, access to financing remains a major constraint. The musyarakah contract as a sharia-based financing scheme offers a solution grounded in justice, transparency, and profit-sharing. This model is relevant for implementation as it aligns with sharia principles and supports collaborative and sustainable business growth. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method to understand the implementation of the musyarakah contract among MSMEs in Cibiru District. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observation, then analyzed using an interactive model encompassing data collection, sorting, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research focuses on understanding, practices, and the impact of musyarakah on MSME actors. The application of musyarakah has brought positive impacts for MSMEs, increasing income, expanding partnerships, and broadening business operations. MSME actors comprehend the principles of profit-sharing, justice, and transparency, although the level of technical understanding varies. Musyarakah is considered more flexible compared to fixed-interest systems and is capable of fostering collaboration, risk-sharing, and supporting business expansion based on sharia values. Musyarakah has proven effective as an MSME financing scheme by enhancing income and strengthening business partnerships. The profit-sharing system is deemed fair, flexible, and sharia-compliant. While business actors' understanding varies, the values of transparency and honesty remain evident. Strengthening literacy, mentoring, and developing inclusive musyarakah products is essential to support more optimal and sustainable implementation.

Abstract

The technique of stir-frying is very popular in Indonesia. Various Indonesian dishes are influenced by various countries around the world, especially China. The influence of Chinese culture and history is very significant in Indonesia, especially in terms of cuisine. With the development of Chinese culture in Indonesia, Indonesians began to learn Chinese cooking techniques, one of which is stir-frying. We would like to discuss the differences between stir-frying techniques in China and Indonesia and how local culture influences these techniques. The research method we used was literature analysis, searching for information from various reliable sources. The Chinese stir-frying technique is cooked quickly, while the Indonesian cooking technique is cooked for a longer time. There are quite a few differences, starting from the process, spices, the results of the cooking, and the taste of the dish, which are the characteristics of the dish itself. The cultural differences between China and Indonesia have resulted in the adaptation of dishes, producing a variety of dishes.

Abstract

This study examines the comparative characteristics of motifs and symbolic meanings in Chinese batik (la ran) and Indonesian batik, particularly from Central Java, using a qualitative library research approach. Although both traditions employ similar wax-resist dyeing techniques, their motif development is shaped by different historical, philosophical, and cultural contexts. The findings indicate that Chinese batik emphasizes representational motifs such as dragons, phoenixes, and plum blossoms, symbolizing cosmic power, harmony, fortune, and resilience, influenced by Confucianism, Taoism, and Chinese mythology. In contrast, Central Javanese batik highlights geometric and stylized motifs such as parang, kawung, and truntum, reflecting moral values, self-restraint, spirituality, and social harmony. The comparative analysis reveals clear differences in visual orientation, symbolic interpretation, and social function between the two traditions. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of Asian textile arts and cross-cultural batik symbolism.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Mandarin language proficiency in preparing Indonesia's younger generation to face international competition as China's global influence increases. A mixed method was used in the study, beginning with a qualitative literature review, followed by a quantitative survey of 38 students in Solo. The results show that 76.3% of respondents are highly interested in learning Mandarin and consider it an important linguistic asset for career opportunities and cross-cultural communication. However, their mastery of vocabulary, basic conversation, and Hanzi writing is still limited. As many as 23.7% of respondents are not interested because they consider the language too difficult and irrelevant. The study concludes that Mandarin proficiency is crucial for the readiness of the younger generation, while recommending the development of a more engaging, relevant, and responsive curriculum and pedagogical approach that addresses motivational barriers and perceptions of difficulty.
