Abstract

The diversity of students' abilities and learning needs is a factor that teachers must consider when conducting instruction in elementary schools. Each student possesses unique characteristics regarding cognitive abilities, learning styles, emotional states, social interactions, and the pace at which they grasp material. This study aims to describe and analyze teacher strategies for accommodating these differences through an educational psychology approach in an elementary school setting. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with the study conducted at UPT SD Negeri Gedog 02. Data were gathered through observation, teacher interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that teachers identify students' abilities and learning needs through initial assessments, information from previous teachers, and continuous observation during instruction. Strategies implemented include individualized approaches, additional guidance, adjusted communication styles, varied teaching methods, the use of visual and digital media, group learning, hands-on practice, and the provision of supportive feedback. Teachers also provide gradual support to students facing difficulties and ensure equitable opportunities for student participation. The application of these strategies helps create a learning environment that is more adaptive to the diversity of student abilities and needs. Thus, an educational psychology approach serves as a foundation for teachers to understand individual differences and determine appropriate instructional strategies to support the cognitive, social, and emotional development of elementary school students.

Abstract

The pedagogical climate of elementary science education necessitates critical thinking skills to foster meaningful conceptual understanding. Preliminary interviews revealed that current instructional practices lack models and approaches capable of stimulating students' critical inquiry. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with a Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach in enhancing the critical thinking skills of elementary students. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design was employed. Data were collected through a critical thinking assessment consisting of five essay items. The instrument’s validity was verified using Aiken’s V, while content reliability was ensured through the percentage of agreement. Data analysis involved the independent sample t-test with a significance threshold of alpha < 0.05. Results indicated a substantial increase in post-test scores across both experimental and control groups, confirming a divergence in students' critical thinking levels. This finding was further substantiated by the independent sample t-test, yielding a probability value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), which signifies a highly significant statistical difference. Consequently, the integration of PjBL with a CRT approach is highly effective in advancing critical thinking skills within elementary.

Abstract

This study aims to map mathematical literacy research in elementary education by examining publication trends, conceptual structures, influential documents, productive authors, publication sources, institutional contributions, country contributions, and future research directions related to innovation and inclusive practices. This study employed a bibliometric approach using Scopus data from 1983 to 2026. A total of 310 documents from 196 sources were analyzed using Biblioshiny and VOSviewer to identify annual growth, citation patterns, keyword co-occurrence, document coupling, source productivity, institutional distribution, and country collaboration. The findings show that this field has developed over a long period with relatively stable growth, an annual growth rate of 4.63%, and an average citation rate of 16.44 per document. Publications increased notably after 2015, although recent citation patterns indicate that the field is entering a more mature stage. The dominant keywords are primary education, numeracy, mathematical literacy, literacy, and early numeracy. Numeracy functions as a central theme, early numeracy appears as a more specific influential theme, and mathematical literacy serves as a broader framework linking reasoning, problem solving, interpretation, real-life contexts, assessment, curriculum, instructional innovation, and socio-educational issues. Spaull’s article is the most influential document, while Pauline Rose, Mike Askew, and Margaret Brown are productive authors. At the institutional level, the University of Cambridge, University of London, and Monash University emerged as major contributors. At the country level, the United Kingdom, Australia, Indonesia, and the United States were important contributors. Future research should strengthen methodological quality, digital learning innovation, inclusive practices, local contexts, and cross-country collaboration.

Abstract

Understanding mathematical concepts is a fundamental objective of elementary mathematics education, yet many students continue to experience difficulties in learning simple fractions because the concepts are abstract and the learning media used are often inadequate. This study aimed to analyze the need for learning media on simple fraction material from the perspectives of teachers and second-grade elementary school students. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed through a needs analysis conducted at an elementary school in Malang, Indonesia, involving one second-grade teacher and twenty- three students. Data were collected using classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and needs analysis questionnaires administered to both teachers and students. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive percentage analysis. The findings revealed that students demonstrated a very high need for learning media, with an average percentage of 86.09%, while teachers showed a similarly high level of need, with an average percentage of 85.42%. Both groups indicated that effective learning media should present colorful illustrations, real-life contexts, and interactive components that allow students to manipulate learning objects to support conceptual understanding. These findings indicate that identifying user needs is an essential step in designing learning media that aligns with students’ cognitive characteristics and classroom learning requirements, providing an empirical foundation for future instructional media development.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the employment rate of graduates and the alignment between their educational background and their field of work in the Device Engineering Department at PT Epson Batam. A tracer study was conducted to evaluate the relevance of higher education to the needs of the industrial sector. The study employed a qualitative approach using the case study method.Data was collected through unstructured interviews, observations, and documentation involving employees and relevant parties in the department. The research findings indicate that the majority of employees in the Device Engineering Department have an educational background in engineering, specifically Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, which is relevant to their respective job roles. The alignment of one’s field of study with their job has proven to be a key factor in improving graduates’ chances of entering the workforce. Additionally, educational attainment influences job status and position, with college graduates typically holding staff-level to supervisory roles, while high school and vocational school graduates are more likely to be in operator or non-staff positions. Other findings indicate that graduates with strong technical competencies tend to experience relatively short waiting periods before securing employment after graduation, reflecting the high demand within industry for technically skilled workers. Overall, the level of graduate employability within this department can be considered favorable, demonstrating a clear alignment between the competencies acquired during higher education and the needs of the company. Therefore, higher education institutions are expected to continuously enhance curriculum quality and strengthen collaboration with industry to ensure that graduates are better prepared and remain competitive in the labor market.

Abstract

Students experience difficulties in solving non-routine problems, particularly when interpreting information, connecting spatial elements, selecting strategies, carrying out procedures, and evaluating their answers. This condition indicates the need for a summative assessment that measures not only final outcomes but reveals students’ problem-solving processes. This study aimed to develop a valid and practical summative assessment based on Polya’s problem-solving stages and to describe its potential to elicit students’ mathematical problem-solving processes. The study employed development research using Tessmer’s formative evaluation procedure, which included preliminary analysis, self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one evaluation, small- group evaluation, and field testing. The participants were eighth-grade students from a junior high school in Palembang who had studied polyhedral geometry. Data were collected through validation sheets, students’ written responses, response questionnaires, and interviews. The data were analyzed descriptively to determine content, construct, and language validity, assess practicality, and identify students’ problem-solving stages. The expert review results showed that the developed assessment met the validity criteria after revisions were made to its content, construct, and language aspects. The small-group evaluation yielded a practicality score of 85%, categorized as highly practical. Written responses and interviews showed that the assessment was able to elicit the stages of understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back, although students still required support in planning and answer verification. The assessment can be used by teachers to evaluate students’ problem-solving ability after instruction. The originality of this study lies in integrating Polya’s problem-solving stages, polyhedral geometry, and summative assessment.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the influence of the Jigsaw-type learning model on students' learning interests. Using a quantitative approach with an experimental design, this study involved 24 5th grade students of SD Negeri 3 Sonowangi as participants. The independent variable in this study is the Jigsaw learning method, while the bound variable is the student's learning interest measured through a questionnaire. The results of the regression analysis showed that the Jigsaw method did not have a significant effect on learning interest, with a significance value of 0.264. Nevertheless, the Jigsaw method has the potential to improve students' social skills and collaboration abilities during the learning process. This study suggests that the effectiveness of the Jigsaw model in increasing learning interest can be influenced by other factors, such as the teaching strategies used or the conditions of the learning environment. Follow-up research with a larger sample count and considering additional variables is recommended to explore this relationship in more depth.
