Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the potential of the aquatic plant Salvinia molesta in absorbing heavy metal nickel (Ni) from wastewater through phytoremediation. The process was assessed using Bioconcentration Factor (BCF) and Translocation Factor (TF) parameters. The experimental method was conducted by applying variations in leaf density and surface coverage of the plant in reactors containing nickel solution. Results showed that Salvinia molesta reduced Ni concentration by up to 85.50%, with the highest metal accumulation found in the roots. The maximum BCF value reached 1.68, and the TF was 0.905, indicating that the plant effectively absorbed Ni from water into roots, but only partially translocated it to the upper parts. Therefore, Salvinia molesta demonstrates potential as a phytoremediator for Ni-contaminated water, with root accumulation being the dominant mechanism.

Abstract

This study investigates land transportation issues in the delivery of palm kernel at PT X and proposes a structured vendor management strategy. Despite relying on third-party vendors to enhance cost efficiency and flexibility, PT X faces frequent delays caused by a mismatch between planned and actual truck arrivals, poor road conditions, and the lack of a documented performance evaluation system. Using a qualitative approach, this research employs fishbone analysis to identify root causes from six dimensions: man, material, machine, method, environment, and measurement. The findings highlight that delivery delays are a multidimensional problem, requiring systematic improvements in both internal management and vendor coordination. This study recommends a data-driven vendor management strategy with enhanced documentation, standard operating procedures, and regular performance evaluation. Implementing these measures is expected to improve delivery efficiency, maintain product quality, and support sustainable logistics operations at PT X.

Abstract

Waste management in Indonesia remains a significant challenge with implications for health and the environment. This research uses descriptive quantitative methods, including observation and interviews, to analyse the role of Bank Sampah RW 8 Gunung Anyar Tambak, Surabaya, in community-based waste management. From 2020 to 2024, the number of waste banks increased from one to three, and they succeeded in reducing the generation of inorganic waste by 84,358 kg, a reduction of 8,456 kg, or 10.02%. The number of waste bank members also increased by 39.89%, from 140 to 351 people. The waste exchange rate system enables residents to save valuable waste, which is then converted into cash, thereby providing a tangible economic benefit. Although the programme contributes only 0.0063% to Surabaya City's total waste reduction, it promotes environmental awareness and the circular economy at a local level. In conclusion, waste banks are effective in reducing household waste while improving community welfare.

Abstract

The increase in operational activities at one of the airports in East Java has led to elevated noise levels in the surrounding areas, particularly in residential zones. This study aims to analyze the conformity of noise levels with environmental quality standards using a spatial modeling approach. The method applied is descriptive quantitative, employing spatial analysis based on secondary data obtained from the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (RKL-RPL) documents. Noise data were examined from five monitoring points and visualized through maps using GIS software. The results indicate that most observation points recorded noise levels exceeding the threshold limits stipulated by Ministry of Environment Decree No. 48 of 1996 and were also found to be inconsistent when compared to area classifications based on the WECPNL method. The implications of these findings highlight the necessity for evaluating the effectiveness of RKL-RPL implementation, strengthening supervisory roles, and formulating mitigation strategies, such as the development of green open spaces and the adoption of environmentally friendly flight paths, to minimize noise impacts on surrounding communities.
