Abstract

Avocado (Persea americana) is an important horticultural crop with high nutritional value and economic potential. Land suitability evaluation is essential to determine land capability for optimal crop growth and sustainable production. This study aimed to assess the land suitability class for avocado cultivation in the Bawang Gajah Sub-Watershed, Central Aceh Regency. The study employed a survey-based approach comprising preparation, a preliminary survey, a field survey, and data analysis. Soil sampling was conducted based on the Land Mapping Unit (LMU) derived from the overlay of slope, land use, and soil type maps using GIS techniques. The results indicated that land suitability for avocado cultivation in the study area was classified as marginally suitable (S3). LMU 2 was limited by soil texture, while soil texture, P₂O₅, K₂O, and slope constrained LMU 3. LMU 4, 6, and 7 were limited by soil texture, P₂O₅, and slope, whereas P₂O₅ and slope constrained LMU 14. These limitations suggest that soil physical properties, nutrient availability, and topographic conditions are the main constraints for avocado cultivation. Improvement measures such as applying organic matter, constructing terraces, and applying balanced phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are recommended to enhance land suitability.

Abstract

Tempeh is one of Indonesia’s traditional foods that is now widely available throughout the country and well known internationally. Tempeh is made from soybeans and offers many health benefits because it provides nutrients that support the body’s needs, including protein, fat, carbohydrates, and more. This study aims to determine the effect of adding katuk leaves to soybean tempeh on the organoleptic properties of the resulting product. Data collection and analysis in this study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with katuk leaf concentration as a factor, comprising 4 treatments: T0=0% (control), T1=50%, T2=75%, and T3=100%. Each treatment was repeated 5 times, resulting in 20 experimental units. The results showed that adding katuk leaves to tempeh production had no significant effect on the organoleptic properties of aroma, taste, and texture, but did have a significant effect on color. The highest acceptance by the panelists for tempeh products with katuk leaf addition in terms of color, aroma, taste, and texture was found in treatment T1 = 50% (3.10%) for color, T1=50% (3.10%) for taste, T0=0% (3.02%) for aroma, and T1=100% (3.07%) for texture.

Abstract

This research was conducted to evaluate the influence of NASA LOF and biocompost on the growth performance of edamame soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.). The experiment employed a 4×4 factorial Randomized Block Design, where the first factor consisted of four concentrations of NASA LOF (P0 = control, P1 = 5 ml/L per polybag, P2 = 10 ml/L per polybag, and P3 = 15 ml/L per polybag). In contrast, the second factor involved four levels of biocompost application (B0 = control, B1 = 50 g/polybag, B2 = 100 g/polybag, and B3 = 150 g/polybag). The results indicated that varying concentrations of NASA LOF (P1, P2, and P3) did not produce significant differences in plant height at 14 DAP, and no significant variation was observed among the LOF treatments. The greatest number of pods per plant was recorded in the control treatment (P0), which was statistically comparable to the P2 treatment. Similarly, the highest pod weight per plant was obtained under the control treatment and did not differ significantly from P2. Biocompost application significantly influenced plant height at 14 DAP; however, its effect was not significant at 28 and 42 days after planting for all dosage levels. The highest pod number was observed in the B3 treatment (150 g/polybag), although it was not statistically different from the B0, B1, and B2 treatments. In contrast, Pods weight per plant was not significantly affected by biocompost application at any dosage level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the feasibility of candlenut farming (Aleurites moluccana) in Labalimut Village, Nagawutung District, Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The method used is a descriptive, quantitative approach, with simple random sampling involving 36 candlenut farmers. The results show that the average revenue is IDR 16,791,667 per hectare, with total production costs amounting to IDR 1,259,167 per hectare, resulting in an income of IDR 15,532,500 per hectare. The R/C ratio value of 13.61 (greater than 1) indicates that candlenut farming is feasible and profitable. The break-even point BEP of production is 41.97 kg, the BEP price is IDR 2,739 per kg, and the BEP revenue is IDR 27,639. Therefore, candlenut farming in this region has strong economic prospects and potential for further development.

Abstract

This study explores the internal and external factors that influence farmers’ decisions regarding cooperative membership. Conducted at the Mandiri Sejahtera Farmers Cooperative in Selaawi Village, Sukabumi, the research employs a quantitative survey method involving all 23 cooperative members. Internal factors include knowledge of cooperatives and economic motivation, while external factors include social support, perceived benefits, and trust in cooperative management. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression via SPSS. The findings reveal that both internal and external factors significantly affect farmers’ membership decisions, with external factors showing a more dominant influence. An R² value of 0.944 indicates that these factors explain 94.4% of the variation in farmers’ decisions. These results underscore the importance of fostering tangible cooperative benefits and building trust to enhance farmer participation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing POAC (Planning, Organizing, Actuating,Controlling) management functions in managing cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) production by farmers in the Mandiri Sejahtera Farmers Group, Sukaraja District, Sukabumi Regency. A descriptive qualitative research method was used, with purposive sampling, to select five farmer respondents. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and questionnaires, and then analyzed qualitatively using the POAC framework. The results indicate that farmers have inherently applied POAC principles adaptively and pragmatically, albeit with varying degrees of formality. Planning is adjusted to agroclimatic conditions and varietal preferences, resource organization is efficient, implementation follows standard cultivation procedures, and control is responsive to field conditions. The effectiveness of POAC implementation has been proven to support cucumber productivity in highland areas where rainfall is a dominant factor. The main constraints are dependence on rainwater and informal recording, but there is potential for improvement through a more structured recording system and diversification of water sources. This study adds to the understanding of POAC management adaptation at the small-scale farmer level.

Abstract

The nutmeg farming sector in Sukabumi City has great economic potential. However, it still faces various obstacles, including low productivity, low farm-level selling prices, and dependence on intermediaries that limit income growth. This study aims to analyze the nutmeg value chain from production by farmers to processing by SMEs and traders, and to assess the value added generated at each stage. The research method is a survey, with primary data collected via questionnaires and interviews with farmers and nutmeg-processing entrepreneurs in Sukabumi. The results indicate an imbalance in the distribution of value added, with processors earning higher margins than farmers. Processed products such as paladang, nutmeg powder, and nutmeg ice cream can generate significant value-added, so developing these products has the potential to improve the welfare of farmers and small businesses. However, limited market access and dependence on intermediaries remain major challenges. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance the capacity of farmers and SMEs through processing technology training, the development of shared processing centers, and the implementation of digital marketing to expand market access and improve supply chain efficiency. Government policy support and collaboration with relevant institutions are also crucial to address issues related to raw material supply, land constraints, and infrastructure, thereby fostering sustainable economic benefits in the nutmeg sector of Sukabumi.
