Abstract

Forest development remains a significant challenge in Indonesia, including in the Pocut Meurah IntanForest Park (Tahura), Aceh. This Tahura is one of the conservation areas that has high biodiversityand essential functions for surrounding communities and regional ecosystems. Tahura Pocut MeurahIntan is located in Aceh Besar District and Pidie District, with an area of approximately 6,300hectares. The results showed that forest destruction in TAHURA Pocut Meurah Intan was caused byseveral primary factors, namely: Illegal logging: Illegal logging activities for commercial purposes arethe leading cause of damage to forest ecosystems. Land encroachment: Changes in forest function toagricultural or residential land are carried out by the surrounding community due to limited productiveland. Illegal mining activities: Unregulated mining in the TAHURA area causes damage to the soilstructure and contributes to forest degradation. Impacts include ecosystem degradation, biodiversityloss, and social conflict. Countermeasures require community-based management, strengthenedregulations, and economic diversification through ecotourism. The involvement of local communitiesand modern technology can support both conservation and sustainable welfare

Abstract

Shallots are a horticultural product experiencing a rising demand, both as a culinary seasoning and as materials for the pharmaceutical industry. This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of biochar and vermicompost as soil amendments that can enhance the characteristics of suboptimal land to boost shallot yields. The study employed a factorial RBD with three replications. The first factor involved the dosage of factorial fertilizer with two observed variables: (i) Vermicompost (V0 = control, V1 = 1 kg /). The incorporation of vermicompost had a significant positive impact on plant height, leaf count, bulb quantity, root length, bulb dry weight, and bulb diameter. Conversely, the application of biochar alone significantly influenced plant height, the number of shallot bulbs, as well as the wet and dry weights of the shallot bulbs. The combination of vermicompost and biochar in a 2:1 ratio per plot proved to be the optimal mix for enhancing growth and productivity, thereby increasing the shallot harvest index.

Abstract

The n-hexane extract of dried UGR leaves was obtained with a yield of 8.0 grams (16%). Phytochemicalscreening revealed the presence of secondary metabolites, including phenolics, steroids, and terpenes. The antioxidant activity was evaluated using the DPPH assay, yielding an IC50 value of 53.654 ppm, which classified the extract as strong, falling within the 50–100 ppm range. However, n-hexane extractsgenerally exhibit weaker antioxidant activity due to the nonpolar nature of the solvent, which limits theextraction of polar antioxidant compounds such as polyphenols and flavonoids. Consequently, n-hexane extracts contain higher amounts of lipids, terpenes, and other nonpolar compounds, which are less effective at scavenging DPPH radicals compared to polar extracts like ethanol or methanol.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze fish consumption trends among Generation Z in Kendari, focusing on the social and economic factors that influence these trends. Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, shows diverse consumption preferences. Factors affecting fish consumption patterns in this group include frequency, motivation, preference for fish types, knowledge of fish benefits, as well as social, cultural, and economic influences such as fish prices. The study found that most respondents consume fish at least once a week, with a preference for marine fish over freshwater fish. Health benefits are the primary motivation for fish consumption, although knowledge about the health benefits of fish remains limited. The influence of family, peers, and social media plays a dominant role in shaping fish-eating habits. Additionally, the price of fish is a significant barrier in consumption decisionsamong Gen Z. These findings are expected to contribute to policies aimed at increasing the consumption of nutritious fish among the younger generation.

Abstract

The development and improvement of mango plant quality can be achieved by providing high-quality mango seedlings in large quantities, in a short time, and at an affordable price. Vegetative propagation is an alternative method for obtaining high-quality seedlings, one of which is through grafting. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of applying aloe vera gel as a natural growth regulator (NGR) on scions for the success of grafting honey mango seedlings. The study was conducted at the experimental farm of the Indonesian Polytechnic of Venezuela in Cot Suruy Village, Ingin Jaya Sub-district, Aceh Besar District, from May to July 2024. The study utilized simple linear regression analysis. The observed parameters werestem height, stem diameter, and the number of leaves. The results of the ANOVA F-test analysis showed that treatments M0, M1, and M3 had an F-table value greater than the F-calculated value, indicating that the regression model was not statistically significant. However, treatment M2 had an F-table value smaller than the F-calculated value.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a Gram-positive bacterium that can act as both a commensal and an opportunistic pathogen, causing a range of infections from superficial skin conditions to life-threatening illnesses. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains, such as MRSA, highlights the need for alternative or complementary natural antibacterials. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial potential of n-hexane extract of Uncaria gambir Roxb (UGR) leaves against S. aureus through both in silico prediction and in vitro testing. The compounds present in the leaves were identified using the Knapsack family database and analyzed for antibacterial activity using PASS Online, while solubilitywas predicted with SwissADME. In vitro antibacterial activity was determined using the agar diffusion method at six extract concentrations (5–40%), with 10% Chloramphenicol as a positive control and sterile distilled water as a negative control. Results indicated that metabolites such as Gallic acid, Cinchonain Ia, and Procyanidins B1 and B3 exhibited the highest predicted antibacterial probabilities, with solubility patterns suggesting better extraction in nonpolar solvents. The inhibition zone diameter generally increased with extract concentration, reaching a maximum of 10.76 ± 1.58 mm at 40%, confirming a concentration-dependent effect. However, the extract’s activity remained lower than that of Chloramphenicol (20.47 mm). Factors such as low compound concentration, limited solubility, chemical properties, and bacterial defense mechanisms likely contributed to the moderate inhibitory activity of the compound. Overall, the n-hexane extract of Uncaria gambir leaves demonstrates measurable antibacterial potential against S. aureus, supporting its traditional use and indicating its promise for further study as a natural antibacterial agent.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of molasses supplementation in commercial feed on the growth performance of saline tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fry. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications was employed: A (control), B (10 mL molasses), C (20 mL molasses), and D (30 mL molasses). Growth performance parameters included specific growth rate, absolute weight gain, length gain, and survival. Results demonstrated that molasses supplementation had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on all parameters. Treatment C (20 ml) achieved the best performance, with a specific growth rate of 1.62%, an absolute weight gain of 1.24 g, and a survival rate of 76%. In contrast, Treatment D (30 ml) yielded the lowest growth performance, indicating that excessive molasses supplementation reduced feed palatability and negatively affected culture outcomes. These findings suggest that supplementation with 20 ml of molasses provides the optimal dosage to enhance the growth and survival of saline tilapia fry.
