Abstract

Langsa City has a river that runs through the city, namely the Krueng Langsa. Critical land will disrupt the land’s ability to regulate water management, flood control, and sedimentation in downstream areas. The method used by GIS is a weighted scoring analysis: the weighted overlay method, the scoring method, and the weighted overlay.   The weighted overlay is a spatial analysis technique that overlays multiple maps related to the factors affecting the vulnerability assessment. The analytical tool used is the geographic information system (GIS). The search parameters were the sloping map, the erosion risk map, the land use map, and the land management map. The results for land importance in the Langsa River showed that it falls into three categories: not important, potentially important, and slightly important. The most predominant land type was unimportant, covering 13,269.23 ha (65.31%), followed by potentially important land, covering 7,030.22 ha (34.60%). These two land importance criteria were found in Langsa Baro District, Langsa West District, Langsa Lama District, Langsa East District, and Langsa City District. “The Slightly Critical class is the smallest class which is only found in Langsa Lama District, specifically in Pondok Factory Village and Petow Village, which are geographically located between 04◦ 42’ 23.99” N – 04◦ 44’ 68.91” N North Latitude and 97◦ 91’ 86.81” E – 97◦ 90’41, 99” N with an area of 15.12 ha (0.07%).

Abstract

Nutmeg seeds (Myristica fragrans Houtt.) are rich in bioactive compounds and have strong potential for development as functional beverages. This study evaluated the effects of formulation ratio and fermentation duration on the physicochemical characteristics and antioxidant activity of a fermented nutmeg seed beverage supplemented with acacia honey. Three formulations with different nutmeg seed–acacia honey ratios were subjected to anaerobic fermentation for 15 and 30 days, followed by analysis of moisture content, sugar content, total acidity, insoluble solids, ash content, and antioxidant activity using the DPPH method (IC₅₀), with data evaluated by analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that fermentation duration significantly affected moisture content, total acidity, ash content, and antioxidant activity (p < 0.05), while formulation ratio significantly influenced insoluble solid content and antioxidant performance. Moisture content ranged from 0.27% to 0.91%, sugar content from 0.64% to 0.75%, total acidity from 165.26 to 179.21, insoluble solids from 1.46% to 5.63%, and ash content from 0.17% to 0.93%. Antioxidant activity showed IC₅₀ values ranging from 56.85 to 148.59 μg/mL, with the highest activity observed in the formulation containing equal proportions of nutmeg seeds and acacia honey fermented for 30 days. These findings indicate that fermented nutmeg–acacia honey beverages possess promising functional properties, with formulation composition and fermentation time playing critical roles in optimizing antioxidant activity

Abstract

Shallots (Allium cepa L.) are a horticultural commodity with high economic value and widespread consumption. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of cow manure and liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) made from chicken eggshells on the growth and yield of shallots. The study was conducted at the experimental garden and Plant Physiology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Malikussaleh University, from November 2024 to February 2025. The experiment was arranged using a two-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. The first factor was the dose of cow manure (0, 40, and 80 g polybag⁻¹), while the second factor was the concentration of chicken eggshell POC (0, 50, and 100 mL L⁻¹ water). The results showed that cow manure significantly affected plant height at 2 weeks after planting (WAP), root weight and volume, fresh and dry tuber weight per clump, and yield, with the best response at a dose of 40 g polybag⁻¹. Chicken eggshell LOF significantly affected plant height at 4 weeks post-plant growth (WAP), root length and volume, root weight, fresh and dry tuber weight, and yield, with the highest value at a concentration of 100 mL L⁻¹ of water. The interaction of the two treatments significantly affected root weight and volume, with the best combination at a dose of 80 g cow manure per polybag⁻¹. The combination of cow manure and chicken eggshell POC has been shown to increase shallot growth and yield.

Abstract

Yellow coconut (Cocos nucifera L) is an underexplored variety with significant potential in the agricultural and food sectors. Unlike regular coconuts, yellow coconuts have a distinct yellow skin and sweeter water. This study evaluates the antioxidant activity of yellow coconut water and flesh using the DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazyl) method, which measures the ability to neutralize free radicals. Results indicate that both yellow coconut water and flesh contain bioactive compounds with notable antioxidant properties, though their activities vary depending on concentration. The water showed significant antioxidant activity at higher concentrations, whereas the flesh showed better activity at lower concentrations. The IC50 values for yellow coconut water and flesh were 900.6 ppm and 1342 ppm, respectively, showing that while both parts have promising antioxidant potential, higher concentrations are needed for more effective results. This research provides valuable insights into the potential of yellow coconut as a natural antioxidant source and its implications for food and health product development.
