Abstract

Purpose  – This study aims to investigate the marketing mix employed by MI PUI Kaum Banjarsari in the context of educational institutions' marketing activities. Specifically, it examines the application of the standardization of New Student Admissions (PPDB) outlined in the Director General of Islamic Education's Decision Number 7265 of 2019. In a landscape with numerous educational institutions and various strategic models for attracting attention, this research seeks to understand the specific marketing mix utilized by MI PUI Kaum Banjarsari. Design/methods/approach  – Conducted as qualitative-descriptive research, this study employs a field research approach involving observation, interviews with key informants possessing 3M criteria (knowing, understanding, experiencing), and documentation. The validity of the data is ensured through triangulation of sources and techniques, with interactive analysis used to interpret the findings. Findings  – The research reveals that MI PUI Banjarsari Ciamis employs the marketing mix to conduct marketing activities, presenting their institution through the elements of (1) products, (2) price, (3) human resources, (4) location, (5) facilities and infrastructure; (6) process; (7) promotion. Additionally, during PPDB activities, MI PUI Kaum applies five standards to prospective students: (1) objectivity, (2) transparency, (3) accountability, (4) non-discriminatory, and (5) competitive. Research implications/limitations  – The impact of this research extends to educational institutions seeking effective marketing strategies. Rules include the specific context of MI PUI Kaum Banjarsari, impacting the generalizability of the findings. Practical implications  – The findings offer valuable insights for educational institutions aiming to refine their marketing strategies, particularly during the PPDB process. Understanding and implementing the marketing mix elements can enhance the institution's appeal to the public. Originality/value  – This research contributes to the literature by offering a detailed examination of the marketing mix employed by MI PUI Kaum Banjarsari in the competitive landscape of educational institutions. The study's originality lies in its specific focus on the marketing dynamics during PPDB, providing valuable insights for institutions navigating similar challenges.

Abstract

Purpose  – This study aims to investigate the role of school principals in implementing the Center of Excellence (CoE) program, aligning with the Ministry of Education and Culture's objectives. Specifically, the research focuses on understanding the principal's leadership style, strategies, and involvement in executing the CoE program at SMK Mekanika Buntet Pesantren Cirebon. Design/methods/approach  – Conducted as qualitative field research, this study is situated at SMK Mekanika Buntet Pesantren Cirebon. Data collection involves observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion to explore the principal's leadership style, strategies, and involvement in CoE program implementation. Findings  – The study reveals that the principal at SMK Mekanika effectively implements the CoE program by the Minister of Education and Culture's Decree No. 17/M/2021. This includes the construction of CoE laboratories, productive teacher internships, workshops, post-training monitoring and evaluation, and learning implementation supervised by managerial supervisors. The principal employs a strategy focusing on educator and staff quality enhancement, collaboration with companies, partnerships with universities, and establishing relationships with other CoE-affiliated schools. The principal's leadership role spans educator, manager, supervisor, leader, innovator, and motivator. Research implications/limitations  – The research implies the critical role of school principals in successfully implementing the CoE program. Rules include the specific context of SMK Mekanika Buntet Pesantren Cirebon, which may limit generalizability. Practical implications  – The findings offer valuable insights for school leaders and policymakers involved in CoE program implementation. Understanding effective leadership styles and strategies can guide other educational institutions in achieving successful CoE initiatives. Originality/value  – This research contributes to the literature by exploring the principal's role in executing the CoE program, encompassing leadership styles, strategies, and practical involvement. The study's originality lies in its specific focus on a school context and its potential to inform best practices for successful CoE program implementation in similar educational settings.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the management of educational laboratory facilities and infrastructure at the Faculty of Islamic Education, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, during the COVID-19 pandemic. It focuses on understanding the adjustments and challenges in facility management under pandemic conditions, particularly exploring the role of supporting and inhibiting factors. Design/methods/approach – Adopting a qualitative approach as defined by Bogdan and Taylor, this research involves a detailed examination through interviews, observations, and documentation. Key informants include the Head of the Laboratory and staff at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. The study employs a thorough process of data analysis, involving transcript preparation, coding, grouping, and interpretation, strengthened by method and source triangulation for data validation. Findings – The study reveals significant changes in the planning, procurement, arrangement, use, and disposal of educational infrastructure during the pandemic. It highlights the crucial role of government policies in facilitating these changes and identifies internal human resource limitations as a primary challenge. The pandemic led to shifts in planning and procurement to suit remote learning needs, emphasizing the need for adaptability in educational infrastructure management. Research implications/limitations – The findings contribute to the academic discourse on educational facility management, particularly under crisis conditions. They provide a framework for understanding the dynamic nature of educational infrastructure management and its responsiveness to unprecedented challenges. Practical implications – This research underscores the importance of flexible and adaptive management strategies in educational settings. It offers practical insights for educational administrators and policymakers on managing physical infrastructure effectively during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Originality/value – This study uniquely focuses on the management of educational laboratory facilities during a global pandemic, offering new insights into the adaptability and resilience of educational infrastructure in the face of unforeseen challenges. It extends the discourse on facility management beyond traditional contexts, providing a model applicable in various educational settings, both during and beyond pandemic situations.

Abstract

Purpose – This research aimed to study implementing and managing a podcast program, Podcat Pakci, as a medium for information dissemination amid the Covid-19 pandemic at SMAN 8 Yogyakarta. Design/methods/approach – The paper scrutinized the management process of the podcast program, which included planning, organizing, directing, and controlling activities, with teachers playing the roles of mentors and supervisors. The dissemination of the podcasts via platforms like Spotify and YouTube, in addition to social media promotions, was also examined. Findings – The research demonstrated how a student-led podcast served as an effective platform for spreading educational and cultural information. This initiative contributed to student engagement and skills development and ensured a broad outreach. Research implications/limitations – While the research underscores the potential of podcasts as student-led projects in educational settings during global crises, its focus on one specific school limits the generalizability of the findings. Future research should focus on exploring podcast programs across different educational contexts and investigating their long-term impacts on student development and learning outcomes. Practical implications – The findings serve as a model for other schools, illustrating how a podcast program can disseminate information, foster student engagement, and enhance skills, particularly during crises like a pandemic. Originality/value – This study uniquely focuses on using a podcast program in an educational setting during a global crisis, emphasizing the innovative and strategic use of media to maintain communication and learning engagement in challenging times.

Abstract

Purpose – This research aimed to explore the application of situational leadership by the Headmaster of SLB Negeri 2 Yogyakarta, Indonesia, in managing teaching and learning activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methods/approach – The study employed a qualitative descriptive methodology. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis from a selected group of school staff. Findings – The study revealed that the school's primary response consisted of curriculum adaptation, strategic use of technology, financial refocusing, and maintaining the mental wellness of the school community. Challenges such as remote communication difficulties, decreased physical and psychological health, sudden policy changes and reduced character education were identified. Strategies were utilized to tackle these issues, such as improved communication, enhanced character education, parental involvement, and using appropriate learning media. Research implications/limitations – The study underscores the significant role of situational leadership in managing crises in the educational sector. Further research is needed to substantiate these findings and delve deeper into the role of situational leadership during crises. Practical implications – The findings provide an understanding of how schools can adapt during crises, pointing towards strategic leadership as a crucial factor in maintaining the continuity of education. Schools facing similar challenges can take cues from the strategies employed by SLB Negeri 2 Yogyakarta. Originality/value – This study contributes uniquely by providing an in-depth exploration of the use of situational leadership in an educational setting during a global health crisis. It showcases the value of strategic leadership in ensuring effective teaching and learning despite unprecedented challenges.

Abstract

Purpose  – This research examines the pivotal role played by the Head of SMP Negeri 3 Kasihan in implementing character education strengthening. It seeks to explore the process of implementing character education, shedding light on the key supporting and inhibiting factors during the Industrial Revolution era 4.0 and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Design/methods/approach  – Conducted as a qualitative study, this research utilized a field survey approach employing descriptive analysis. The study occurred at SMP Negeri 3 Kasihan and used data collection methods such as observation, interviews, and documentation. An inductive method was applied, concluding specific facts to generalize findings. Findings  – The research findings reveal three main points: (1) The Head of the school serves various roles, including manager, educator, administrator, supervisor, leader, and innovator, in implementing character education strengthening. (2) In the era of Industry 4.0, the process involves personality development through scouting and the introduction of technology. Character-strengthening education was conducted during the pandemic through distance, online, and blended learning. (3) Students adapt to the times, with online implementation a significant supporting factor. However, challenges include suboptimal material delivery and a lack of direct monitoring due to the online learning environment. Research implications/limitations  – The impact of this research extends to educational policymakers and practitioners, emphasizing the multifaceted role of school leaders in character education. Rules include the specific context of SMP Negeri 3 Kasihan and the challenges the online learning environment poses. Practical implications  – The study underscores the need for adaptive approaches in character education implementation, recognizing the role of school leaders as crucial in overcoming challenges, especially in the context of the Industrial Revolution era 4.0 and the pandemic. Originality/value  – This research contributes to the literature by providing insights into the specific challenges and strategies the Head of SMP Negeri 3 Kasihan employs in implementing character education during dynamic times. The study's originality lies in examining the dual impact of Industry 4.0 and the pandemic on character education, offering valuable lessons for educational institutions navigating similar challenges.

Abstract

Purpose  – This research aims to explore the implementation of curriculum management in skill-based subjects using the modified teaching factory approach at MAN 2 Bantul. The study examines the planning, development, and execution of curriculum management in the context of skill-based programs. Design/methods/approach  – Conducted as a qualitative study, this research utilizes a case study approach to delve into the intricacies of curriculum management. Data collection techniques include observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Analysis methods involve transcript analysis, coding/labeling, grouping, comparing and contrasting, and interpretation. Data validation employs triangulation, considering multiple sources, techniques, and periods. Findings  – The findings of this research indicate several vital points: 1) Curriculum management planning in the skills program is aligned with the institution's vision, mission, and objectives. 2) Curriculum development is tailored to students' needs and the educational institution's capabilities. 3) Implementing curriculum management in the skills program involves using the modified teaching factory method with block system learning strategies. 4) Evaluation stages include both learning and curriculum evaluations. 5) Challenges the institution faces in implementing skill programs include the novelty of the learning model, aligning existing skill programs with community needs, a shortage of educators in skill programs, marketing products, and addressing student issues. Research implications/limitations  – The impact of this research extends to educational policymakers and practitioners, providing insights into effective curriculum management for skill-based programs. Rules include the specific context of MAN 2 Bantul and the challenges faced by the institution. Practical implications  – The study offers valuable insights for educational institutions implementing skill-based programs using the modified teaching factory approach. The findings highlight effective strategies and potential challenges institutions may encounter during implementation. Originality/value  – This research contributes to the literature by examining curriculum management in skill-based programs, explicitly using the modified teaching factory method. The study's originality lies in its comprehensive analysis of the planning, development, and implementation phases, providing valuable lessons for institutions seeking innovative approaches to curriculum management in skills education.

Abstract

Purpose  – This research is motivated by the challenges faced by students and teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Pameungpeuk, Garut, West Java, in conducting effective distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recognizing the limitations impacting students' understanding and the subsequent learning effectiveness, the government authorized face-to-face learning under specific conditions. This study explores the implementation of hybrid learning at SMP N 1 Pameungpeuk as an alternative to address the constraints faced by students in distance learning. Design/methods/approach  – Conducted as a qualitative descriptive study, this research utilizes purposive sampling to select informants. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and documentation. Analysis techniques involve transcript analysis, coding, grouping, and comparing and contrasting. Validity is ensured through source triangulation. Findings  – The study reveals that hybrid learning, as implemented by SMP N 1 Pameungpeuk, is an effective solution for students facing constraints in distance learning. The hybrid approach allows teachers to understand students' states, characters, and academic development. Adjustments to the learning plan involve a single-sheet lesson plan, thirty-minute subject sessions using various applications, and evaluation through assigned student tasks. Research implications/limitations  – The research implies the potential of hybrid learning as a viable alternative in challenging circumstances. Rules include the specific context of SMP Negeri 1 Pameungpeuk and the dynamic nature of distance learning constraints during the pandemic. Practical implications  – The findings offer valuable insights for educational institutions considering hybrid learning as an alternative to address challenges in distance learning. Adjusting learning plans and utilizing various applications highlights practical strategies for effective implementation. Originality/value  – This research contributes to the literature by showcasing the implementation of hybrid learning as a response to the limitations of distance learning, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Abstract

Purpose  – This study explores the implementation of marketing strategies in managing an Islamic educational institution, explicitly focusing on MAN PK, the rebranded specialized program within MAN 1 Yogyakarta. Motivated by the competitive landscape influenced by globalization and the emergence of numerous Islamic educational institutions, the research aims to understand how marketing strategies enhance the quality and positioning of MAN PK. Design/methods/approach  – Conducted as qualitative research, this study employs observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection methods. The analysis includes transcript analysis, coding, grouping, comparing and contrasting, and data interpretation. Method triangulation and source triangulation are utilized for data validity. Findings  – The study's findings conclude that: 1) MAN PK, through a SWOT analysis, is positioned as a superior product within MAN 1 Yogyakarta, specializing in religious sciences and providing dormitory-based education. The existence of MAN PK contributes positively to the institution's image. 2) MAN 1 Yogyakarta's marketing strategy for MAN PK involves planning, market identification, segmentation, differentiation, and implementing the 7p marketing mix. This includes product, price, people, promotion, place, physical evidence, and process. 3) The rebranding of MAN PK at MAN 1 Yogyakarta results in enhanced program quality, evidenced by a strengthened dormitory-based curriculum, the production of high-quality graduates, and increased interest from prospective students. Research implications/limitations  – The research implies the significance of effective marketing strategies in shaping the image and quality of specialized educational programs. Limitations include the specific context of MAN 1 Yogyakarta, which may impact generalizability. Practical implications  – The findings provide practical insights for educational institutions aiming to enhance their programs through strategic marketing, particularly in specialization and rebranding. Originality/value  – This research contributes to the literature by thoroughly examining marketing strategies in the context of an Islamic educational institution, explicitly focusing on the rebranded program MAN PK within MAN 1 Yogyakarta. The study's originality lies in its specific focus on the marketing dynamics of a specialized program within a larger educational institution.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to optimize the List of Proposed Promotions (DUPAK) filling process for teachers at the Education Quality Assurance Agency (BPMP), D.I. Yogyakarta, Indonesia, to enhance transparency, accountability, and quality in the teacher promotion process. Design/methods/approach – A qualitative research approach was employed for this study. Data was gathered from the agency's information system staff using a combination of interviews, observations, and document reviews to understand the existing processes and potential areas of optimization. Findings – The research findings underscore the importance of digitizing DUPAK submissions through the E-PAK application. It has been identified that this digital transformation could promote greater participation and enhance transparency and accountability in the teacher promotion process. Research implications/limitations – This study provides significant insights into the potential for digital transformation in the DUPAK process, thereby potentially improving education quality. However, its insights are confined to one institution, which raises questions about potential barriers and scalability of the process in other educational institutions. Therefore, further research is recommended to explore these aspects and comprehensively understand digital transformation's impact on teachers' career development. Practical implications – The findings have significant practical implications, suggesting a potential direction for educational institutions in optimizing their promotion processes through digital transformation, hence promoting greater transparency, participation and improving the overall quality of education. Originality/value – This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by exploring the role of digital transformation in enhancing the teacher promotion process. It provides valuable insights into how technology could be leveraged in educational institutions to improve their administrative processes and promote career development.
